The constitution was written hundreds of years ago for a mostly Christian-American-only (excluding slaves) society. Things are different now. All though the constitution sounds fantastic, it's not good for this day and age with technology, media, and not to mention the fact that America is composed of many different religions and ethic groups. Saying something like "it's unconstitutional" should not be a valid argument today. Give me one good reason with citation of why we should allow funerals to be protested like this.
lol
Saying something like "it's unconstitutional" should not be a valid argument today.
woah what what woah
wow so right to free speech, right of due process, double jeopardy are NOT important today? what is wrong with you? one good reason: 1st amendment source: constitution.
Oh for fuck's sake  Thats a legal reason, not a moral reason. I understand everyone's right to free speech but at a funeral people are paying their last respects. I would understand why they saw something like this as harassment.
i haven't stopped laughing at leaf runner's post holy fuck

If people's right to express themself can be limited by people calling it harassment, anyone can be silenced and free speech no longer exists. A core principle of a free society is the ability to say what you want even if people get offended, especially if people get offended.
i haven't stopped laughing at leaf runner's post holy fuck
Leaf Runner is the best comedian on Facepunch.
morality does not define the laws and the legal system so what is your point.
...wait what? Yeah it does, morals such as, don't kill, don't steal, treat others the way you want to be treated. That kind of stuff? Those aren't morals?
...wait what? Yeah it does, morals such as, don't kill, don't steal, treat others the way you want to be treated. That kind of stuff? Those aren't morals?
No, they're laws. Well, not the "do unto others" thing.

Leaf Runner has just made a huge ass of himself, it's great. maybe he should leaf XD
...wait what? Yeah it does, morals such as, don't kill, don't steal, treat others the way you want to be treated. That kind of stuff? Those aren't morals?
no, it's the law. if you make something illegal because "IT'S IMMORAL" you're doing a really dumb thing.
No, they're laws. Well, not the "do unto others" thing.
But they're based off of a moral code....
But they're based off of a moral code....
which moral code is that?
great, now we have a moderator advocating murder
This is the mod who banned me for calling out TH89 on how he stupidly suggested the CIA should murder Julian Assange. Not that anyone cares about my bans, but just pointing out how GunFox has a strange worldview. [editline]12:09AM[/editline]
But they're based off of a moral code....
You have a right to not be killed, not have your shit stolen, etc. It's not really a moral code, you just have a right not to be fucked with.
You have a right to not be killed, not have your shit stolen, etc. It's not really a moral code, you just have a right not to be fucked with.
Wouldn't that include someone protesting a funeral for a loved on?
Wouldn't that include someone protesting a funeral for a loved on?
You're a fucking idiot.
You're a fucking idiot.
Now I'm just trying to get my info straight. Asking a question admits the lack of knowledge not intelligence.
Wouldn't that include someone protesting a funeral for a loved on?
No, we don't have the right not to have our feelings hurt. Sorry.
Now I'm just trying to get my info straight. Asking a question admits the lack of knowledge not intelligence.
He worded it somewhat poorly, you have the right to not get physically or financially fucked with, most other things are kosher. And like i've said before, all WBC is (apparently) doing is expressing an opinion, and because that opinion doesn't incite hatred/violence, it's legal. And before you say it does, all WBC says is "God hates ____" and says that the wrath of god will rain down on so and so for their promotion of fag sodomy or whatever. They never say "all fags should be killed" or something like that.
When the WBC leader dies i'm going to picket his funeral so damn hard.
Now I'm just trying to get my info straight. Asking a question admits the lack of knowledge not intelligence.
My bad then, I read that a different way then you intended. They're expressing their ideas and beliefs on public property. As horrible as they seem to you or me, they have the right to do so. They aren't on private property doing this, they aren't making threats and they're not defaming anyone in particular. To limit them from expressing their views is to undermine what America is about.
-snip wrong thread-
Sick cunt.
Phelps, or the judge? Cause so far as Phelps goes, yea, we know.
To limit them from expressing their views is to undermine what America is about.
Yes but perhaps they should be "expressing their views" somewhere relevant? A soldier's funeral is hardly relevant to their cause.
When the WBC leader dies i'm going to picket his funeral so damn hard.
Picketing his funeral would make us all just as bad as them. That said, if you and many others want to send letters to their church saying things like "I guess you could say.... it's God's will." or "LOLOLOLOL" then I imagine the effect of getting 600,000 letters from some very happy people would be quite hilarious, but that could totally backfire and spur them on.

Picketing Fred Phelps' funeral would be slightly immoral but still far better than what he is doing. It doesn't matter if we picket his funeral or send him letters, we are expressing our freedom of speech that we would of lost if we made picketing funerals illegal due to harassment.
I'm angry that these types of things can happen, but gays can't even get married.
I'm angry that these types of things can happen
The First Amendment is a GOOD thing.
I didn't mean it that way, I meant it in like...why are these people defended their rights, but gays aren't?
