The paleo-eocene thermal maximum is near what our global warming predictions are supposed to be. Except the PETM got there over millions of years, we're going to do it within a century.

Things go far, far worse when the earth cools or heats quickly. It doesn't matter what it gets to, as long as it goes slowly. Everything adapts well when change occurs slowly, but when a change is rapid what you get is extensive extinction. The PETM lead to the extinction of some life in the sea, but otherwise was okay. Plain and simple, we need to cut back.

Geologists use things like ice cores to determine average atmospheric composition and other things. This goes back a very long time, well before humans existed.

Here's the kicker. Most of the world population will die. I believe technology could sustain a small number of people, especially compared to the current total. There's no 'escaping to Mars', because all the projections for terraforming put Mars human-liveable in a few hundred years.

You cannot say that it isn't human caused. To say so is folly. Every government must learn and accept this, and rigidly enforce regulations, or we most likely all going to die.
