What if we are the aliens?
Imagine actually finding aliens.
Imagine being able to use their technology to actually get off this rock and deal with our problems.
Imagine becoming starlord and exploring the galaxy millions of lightyears away from home...
I WANT TO BELIEVE
or you contact something like the strogg or borg
What if we are the aliens?
what if there are aliens that are so small that they live in photons
what if there are aliens that are so small that they live in photons
did somebody compose an entire book or something
We are in the beam.
Aliens will not be found in my life time. I have made peace with this. I'll settle for being in the generation where we set up a base on mars/the moon. But I'll leave the hope for aliens to the next few generations.
I want to meet Q

The thing that makes it less exciting for me is the fact that while we may find something out there some day, we will practically never reach them and they will never reach us. We might finally confirm that life exists on other planets, but it changes nothing, at least not for this millennium.

It really depresses me to think that we will probably never be able to travel faster-than-light.
hopefully if it is aliens they will all be hot chicks who love nerdy earthlings

i hate being optimistic about this sort of stuff but in the span of 100 years we've evolved our technology by an absurd amount so "at least not for this millennium" is a really dumb way to put it. :p
just look at how in a decade most developed countries have adapted to instant information, anywhere, anytime, with stupidly advanced sci-fi devices people would've never dreamed of 70 years ago. look at all the technological advancements happening right now. how can you think it's going to take us a millennium or more to travel outside of our planet more efficiently?
When's the next update going to come out? Please don't tell me there's going to be nothing on this topic until next year.
When do we get to fuck them? That should be our main concern.

when we have enough money to pay for hot intergalactic alien prostitutes

don't let it depress you, we still have cool things to enjoy and I mean who doesn't enjoy some aspects of life (I dunno drinking, video games, sex, art, friends etc), meh we may not get to see faster than light travel and stuff like that but I mean if you wanna use that logic then where do you limit yourself, say we hypothetically do ftl travel in 1000 years what about what we do in 2000 years, or what happens right before humanity goes extinct or what about what other possible feats other life has achieved in an even longer time frame.
I know that you're not seriously depressed about it I just like to overthink comments :v:

I'm not saying that it will take a millennium for tech to advance enough to make space travel viable, I'm saying that even with the technology, the journey would take hundreds if not thousands of years, and that's not even a round trip. This star in particular, if we had the tech, would still take us 1500 years to reach assuming we could travel anywhere near light speed, we'd need to be decelerating the entire last half of the trip to actually stop and not fly straight past the system which means the last 10% of the trip could take as long as the 90% traveled so far.

It would be so depressing if we could. Just think of all the causality violations!
My people
Even though people are excited by the possibility of aliens, im a little bit terrified.
If this is truly a dyson sphere or dyson swarm, it means an alien race has progressed to a Kardashev Tier II civilization. We aren't even at one yet. And considering what happened to the Native Americans, what will happen if these guys find us...

Well, we got wormholes, but we need to stabilize them first. If they even exist...
It's probably a really big asteroid belt, remains of planet(s) or both.
But :alien: I want to believe :alien:.
Imagine if it just had a massive clusterfuck of planets and planetoids that it's captured, how fascinating that would be. :v:
Correct me if I'm wrong but if this IS an alien civilization and they're building or have built a Dyson swarm or similar structure around their star, wouldn't that make them a Type II civilization (i.e. far more advanced than us currently)?
It's crazy when you think about that we aren't even a Type I civilization yet and we have have found a Type II.
It really depresses me to think that we will probably never be able to travel faster-than-light.
Anything is possible as long as we believe.
Just look! We might have found Aliens!
It really depresses me to think that we will probably never be able to travel faster-than-light.
That may be true but it still doesnt put interstellar travel completely out of reach. There are nearby stars where you could reach them within a human lifetime traveling at a fraction of the speed of light.

There's an entire subreddit of those now: r/HFY
I understand that practically speaking it's almost completely impossible for us to be the only intelligent life in the universe, but actually knowing that someone's building shit basically in our backyard would be so fucking cool and uplifting for me.
Maybe even begin a new space-race, this time because of genuine interest and excitement and not a childish feud between countries.

i'd say if they really did build a dyson swarm then we're more in their backyard
Imagine what finding alien life would do to the religious establishments in the world.
Since nearly all of them say "x put us here y years ago and we're special."
Finding life elsewhere would complicate the narrative.
