I don't claim to know anything about space stuff, but if it's 1500 light years away how can we even act upon information that is 1500 years late? But then again I guess no harm in just listening in that direction.
Imagine what finding alien life would do to the religious establishments in the world. Since nearly all of them say "x put us here y years ago and we're special." Finding life elsewhere would complicate the narrative.
No it wouldn't, logic wouldn't suddenly apply to religion because it never has before because if it did religion wouldn't really be a thing.
It's probably a really big asteroid belt, remains of planet(s) or both. But :alien: I want to believe :alien:.
How couldn't you believe? We're here aren't we?
Maybe the brief dimness is due to Installation 04, or something like it. [sp]Yes I know the Halo rings are based upon Ringworld which are related to Dyson structures[/sp]
Aliens will not be found in my life time. I have made peace with this. I'll settle for being in the generation where we set up a base on mars/the moon. But I'll leave the hope for aliens to the next few generations.
As it currently stands we have about the same chance in finding aliens as any of the coming generations, depending on how you define alien life.
I think we'll find life in space in our lifetime. Even if it's just some bacteria living deep inside Mars or Europa.

We should build a ring around our sun, and send morse code at the speed of light through the universe.
Nuh-uh. Bad idea. Don't make first contact with something that has developed megastructures on a solar system. No clue as to what might happen.
How Ironic that we find alien life before Half life 3 is released.
If it is aliens then we sure as hell won't be hearing about it, there'd be a huge government coverup since society isn't really ready for such a revelation yet.
Nuh-uh. Bad idea. Don't make first contact with something that has developed megastructures on a solar system.
If it is aliens then we sure as hell won't be hearing about it, there'd be a huge government coverup since society isn't really ready for such a revelation yet.
Do you think the university scientists and researchers give a shit what the government says
i hate being optimistic about this sort of stuff but in the span of 100 years we've evolved our technology by an absurd amount so "at least not for this millennium" is a really dumb way to put it. :p just look at how in a decade most developed countries have adapted to instant information, anywhere, anytime, with stupidly advanced sci-fi devices people would've never dreamed of 70 years ago. look at all the technological advancements happening right now. how can you think it's going to take us a millennium or more to travel outside of our planet more efficiently?
Thing is we could be on Mars by now if we really wanted to. We have the technology and we could do it. This is why the cold war and the space race was a good thing. It encouraged research and alike. Governments were committed to a cause, i mean we went to the moon 50 years ago with computers that are less powerful than an average phone.
I don't claim to know anything about space stuff, but if it's 1500 light years away how can we even act upon information that is 1500 years late?
Then we'll know that while Rome was falling and Justinian was picking fights with the Vandals, someone incredibly far away was building shit in space. Kinda puts our history in perspective, doesn't it?
Nuh-uh. Bad idea. Don't make first contact with something that has developed megastructures on a solar system. No clue as to what might happen.
Considering the 1500 years delay, I wouldn't worry about it. Worst that can happen, our descendants in the year 5015 will finally know if the xenos were DTF or genocidal.
Nuh-uh. Bad idea. Don't make first contact with something that has developed megastructures on a solar system. No clue as to what might happen.
if they developed megastructures on a solar system why would they even care about us tbh we would have nothing they wanted at that point, they would no longer need resources, and what we can offer is minuscule to what they would need

They can deny radio-waves and infrared images all day easily.
People deny climate change and evolution even after all the scientific evidence. They can deny radio-waves and infrared images all day easily.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Nothing really material, but they would probably be interested in our culture, its unique to each civilization.
Yup. Hell, it'd probably be pretty cool to observe a culture akin to what they once were. "Whoa, I still can't get my circuits around the fact that we used to be puffy bags of mostly water..."
Do we have the technology to send a radio single 15,000 lights to a star system that will get there a lot faster
Nuh-uh. Bad idea. Don't make first contact with something that has developed megastructures on a solar system. No clue as to what might happen.
you are implying they don't already know about us yet
Do you think Aliens would develop some kind of technology that would prevent other races from detecting them via radio waves or whatever else we have? There could be aliens all around us and we just don't know it
Do you think Aliens would develop some kind of technology that would prevent other races from detecting them via radio waves or whatever else we have? If there is a species out there in the universe capable of building a space mega structure, they most certainly would not give our planet the time of day to even stop by to say hello. We are extremely barbaric as a species still and we are not in any way capable of being able to handle any advanced alien tech until we get our shit together here first. Hell that's probably why no other life has stopped by here. They probably zoomed in from a telescope, saw isis behead some people, the United states bombing anything that moved, Africa in a state of emergency and then they zoomed to flordia, stopped, and immediacy said " Hell no will we ever go to that planet and no one else should. " Still I'm hopeful, but cautious to get excited.
Yeah imagine if there are other civilizations out there that that have discovered multiple forms of life in other galaxies that are far more advanced than us, and so since we havent advanced as far, we are just brushed aside. Imagine if aliens did know about us but they just didnt care.

There are so many underdeveloped civilizations which lack the ability to intercommunicate or discover each other which are observable by more advanced civilizations, but since there are so many there's no point in interacting with them all. Imagine a fire ant bed, would you take the time to carefully observe and interact with each ant's movements, or would you simply observe the colony as a whole for the big picture? It'd be a waste of time getting into the nitty gritty patterns and behaviors for hundreds or thousands of those ants when you can simply observe the general development of the bed from afar. That's just a theory though.
