Yeah, but I don't see how you're jumping from 'private ownership won't guarantee the ability to single-handedly throw off the most advanced military in the world' to 'private ownership is totally useless'. As I said, you can find lots and lots and lots of examples of where an insurgency greatly helped to free their own country, even if they didn't do it entirely on their own. And there are still some cases, like a scenario involving widespread military defection, where an armed populace can make the difference.
