That's because it's a very limited amount of areas that can actually get fiber support? Not as many customers compared to something like Time Warner or Comcast.
its also because time warner and comcast dont give a fuck about customer support. ive called them to have them just hang up on me, as well as have them just insult me. they straight up told me i dont know how to plug in a modem and router, and that i had to pay $200 for a rep to do it for me lmao
I've had to wait three weeks between phone calls with Frontier when I moved into my apartment, the first time they had my address wrong, and the second time they had my phone number wrong, and the third time they said someone showed up (no call, I've got classes.) and couldn't set up the service I requested, but offered me 6 mb/s.
I just hung up, signed up for Comcast online in like two minutes for cheaper and at a higher speed and just bought a modem for myself.
Moral of the story: Cable providers that require you to call them are the worst.
Just last week Centurylink has been expanding its gig lines to more of the city and Comcast doubled my speed at no charge.
Yay competition
My provider, during one random service call, boosted our speeds from 30mb/s to 50mb/s at no charge. They've also gotten a lot better about giving us warnings about upcoming maintenance.
That said, their customer service is now a fucking robot with the most grating "sorry ur a shitlord~ :)" tone that will walk you through twenty extra steps before you can get anywhere. They also purposefully add a long pause and hide how you get in contact with an agent behind at the end of their menus/support with "And if that solves your problem, just hang up! And thanks for using (provider.) Or you can press 1 for more options . ........ ........................ or say agent to speak to a representative." I clocked one on-hold session at 1 hour 45 minutes, which wouldn't be bad, if they didn't fucking play advertisements the entire time instead of some nice music.
Do you think non-americans are going to get this in ~10 years?
We already do here, and have had it nationwide for a few years now, 1Gbps fiber internet.
Its easy to make your numbers look good when your service is brand new and in only a handful of cities. google fiber is hardly a national service so you cannot reasonably compare them to other providers like Verizon or Comcast.

that doesnt mean its okay for the national providers to have absolute shit for service though

Customer service wise maybe, but my internet hasn't gone out in a very long time. Plus 150 down for 55 a month is a damn good deal all things considered.

National doesnt make a difference. What makes a difference is that google fiber is mainly in cities while the other services have a spread further into rural areas, if you compared their city only stats it would be fair. Or compare within the same city. Not that we're getting competitors numbers, anyway.

You worked as a support tech for them right? I remember you posting about it a long time ago.
Anyway, the Comcast here is OK, but nothing particularly good, there are about 10 ISPs that are better just a few miles north and west of where I live, and Google Fiber is rolling in town, so CMCST is feeling the pressure, they're putting their own fiber in now.

im p much just talking about customer service, tho my experience with comcast service was definitely subpar as well. it would go down 3-4 times a week, usually for at least an hour, sometimes up to 5 hours. my speeds were literally never the 50mbps i was supposed to get, usually it hovered around 20-25 mbps. my ping was always nice though, so i guess thats good?

best part is that where i live atm the literal only option is century link @ 1.5 mbps. i have exactly 0 other options.
