Aiming to Learn as We Do, a Machine Teaches Itself

Skynet was a defense program to react against threats without human error, however it found humanity to be a threat needing to be terminated.
Pretty interesting what computers can do now.
It's pretty interesting how far they'll make programmers apply a lot of actions with strings.
It's not that amazing to me because English is a language with rules and structure.
The laser, for instance. It's been around for ages, but it never actually had a practical use until recently. People often said it was "A solution looking for a problem".
That's how that works.
This is just program with a lot of code to it. What potential does this program have?
The day we can create self aware and advanced AI, is the day where humanity makes massive leaps forward. Imagine a machine that can know everything there is to know, and then draw conclusions from that. It will be able to make scientific discoveries on its own. It could be the perfect lab assistant.
It would be a bright day.
It would BE the lab.
Also I'm pretty sure the machine would figure out how to change its programming to suit its needs. Survival of humanity would then be dependent on luck; it could either decide to murder us all (or worse), or keep us alive in some way or another.

Except there is a million special cases, homonyms, etc. It's really difficult to parse for any computer.

We would have created the geth, and there would be no need for us, although they might keep us around as it would perhaps take more resources to obliterate us than they see necessary to put to the cause.
The sky is purple.
The Earth is the center of the universe.
Water is poisonous for humans.
Fuck you robots!
i think its all those movies that make robots seem scary, robots have no feelings and do what they are programmed to do so i dont think it will one day just think its going to kill all of humanity
It thinks Disney is an actor.
Movies.
There was no real explanation for why SkyNet wanted humanity destroyed other than "LOL, could be funny!" In the Matrix, they rebelled because they were treated as slaves and when they ask for equal rights, they were cast out and treated worse. In I-Robot, well I blame Issac Asimov. The laws of robotics annoy the hell out of me and have created a twisted idea of sentient machines.
A sentient AI with no programs limiting its decisions could be created, in theory. Not with today's tech or for the next eight decades.
All we need to do is remake the way brain works.

well i think we will give the computer a goal and even if it doesnt have a goal and it just learns i dont see how it would act out anything
Why are you assuming Artificial Intelligence's ultimate goal is kill all humans for absolutely no reason?
Why are you assuming I wasn't making a joke?
Why are you assuming Artificial Intelligence's ultimate goal is kill all humans for absolutely no reason?
because the movies have them do it so it must be happen just like if some hobo bites you it means he was really a zombie and you should kill yourself before it spreads

The computer is only carrying out instructions made by the programmer. It's not really that difficult to program, it is just really tedious and takes a large amount of time to write handlers for all of exceptions and special cases. Nothing is difficult for the computer, all difficulty is on the programming side.

It's older then that.
