You're saying it as if soil/rock is an impenetrable shield. [editline]14th April 2011[/editline] It will get contaminated one way or another by a, well, "Supervolcano".
you don't even know what you're talking about do you
Companies. People get scared, they rush out to buy things to prepare.
That's a huge stretch. Which companies are exploiting this, exactly? Until I see "Prepare for Yelowstone!" posters outside of Sports Authority, I'm gonna go ahead and rebuke the claim that there is any fearmongering afoot.
I don't quite believe that Yellowstone will erupt during our generation, so I don't have many concerns about the predicament. We only have to worry about the future generations to come.
It will take out the USA and leave the rest of the world in another "Little Ice Age", which last happened in the 1600s.
the "little ice age" was limited to mostly northern europe [editline]14th April 2011[/editline]
Exactly. Another benefactor is the government, as people acting on panic or pure emotion are easier to manipulate. Remember 9/11?
yeah, tell me when the government starts using yellowstone to justify stuff
Maybe one of the more common eruptions, but according to the article we've got around 50,000 years until the "big" one.
Isn't the pressure already expected to be really huge already?

[editline]14th April 2011[/editline] It will get contaminated one way or another by a, well, "Supervolcano".
Unless you have sulfur rains that manage to penetrate down to the water table (it won't, to any dangerous extent, clay, along with fine and medium soil types filter out most compounds via chemical reactions and microbial processing, sieving due to soil packing, and lack of permeability), and the several feet of volcanic ash above the surface. Even if high levels of sulfur were detected in ground water, it can be easily processed out by and unpowered processing unit.
Somebody should give it a stern telling off.
Somebody should give it a stern telling off.
timeout in the corner while it cools down.

If it doesn't erupt in the next 1000 or so years, I reckon we'll be ok. By then we should have self-sustaining colonies all over the solar system (or beyond).

lol @ retards saying space is the only option; you honestly think artificial environments on earth would be that hard to create.
lol @ retards saying space is the only option; you honestly think artificial environments on earth would be that hard to create.
Screw space, screw the ocean, we should create artificial environments in the volcanoes themselves!
I think you underestimate humanities ability to adapt and survive. Fallout won't kill all of us.
We have technology on our side. Always have. Without it, we'd be extinct. [editline]14th April 2011[/editline] What I don't understand is, why does anyone think it will erupt at all? Each of it's eruptions take longer and longer to happen. Maybe it's settled down. And if it does erupt in the future I'm sure to survive it will be as easy as stay indoor and don't breathe anything in. It'll create giant ash clouds which are pretty much the only real threat. I doubt it's eruption will set fire to the entire continent. And ash can be treated similarly to that of snow. The possibility of acid rain is always there as well. So really, it's all about being prepared and going somewhere safe. It's easy to outrun a magma flow on the surface. And it'd take hours for the plume of ash to cover enough of the sky to begin having major effects. Though I imagine with it's "roots" going down as deep as they do, it'd last a very long time. Which could be another great issue. Feel free to prove my wrong on any/all of this. I'm just spouting words.
Second I read the title, I immediately thought of this:
Screw space, screw the ocean, we should create artificial environments in the volcanoes themselves!
Because the Yellowstone volcano totally covers the entire planet :downs:
When do we all get blown up?
next month
I live in Colorado, I'll post an keep updates on a thread when the world ends! With pics of the Apocalypse.
Lets throw a shitton of weed into this Volcano and get baked as fuck while we die.
I remember in 5th grade I did a project where I designed an underground shelter to support 10,000 people in case yellow stone erupted. Time to get started on the real thing I guess.
We need Fallout Shelters NOW! Lets assign them numerical values as well, and only include a certain amount of people. I call Vault 21

I say we all band together, make a huge funnel and put it upside down over yellow stone. Then we cause it to erupt when its pointing at the sun and it will go into space and into the sun and heat it up so it lives for millions more years then it should.
just place a bucket of water over the mouth. It will seal it shut with obsidian.
lol @ retards saying space is the only option; you honestly think artificial environments on earth would be that hard to create.
"The human race shouldn't have all its eggs in one basket, or on one planet" - Stephen Hawking. There was another guy some 40-50 years ago who said it better, but I got Hawking because everybody knows who he is. Too long didn't read you're dumb.
how funny would it be if one day in the future someone took a vacation there and was like look honey isnt it beautiful...(big explosion)..........FML
Well they'd be killed instantly and spared from the horrible famine and struggle to survive and rebuild civilization so...
