While it's obviously not the military's purpose to refine their moral standards and behaviors, it's just as idiotic to suggest that stoning dissenters, severe misogyny towards women, pedophilia, and an archaic justice system is somehow acceptable because it's part of their "culture".

Saying it's their culture says nothing about whether the behavior is justified or not.

You can say that it's our "job" to educate them. The West is pretty good at telling people how their society should work, so there's no stopping them. But is it the US Army's job to go to Afghanistan and to enlighten them? No.
