That's only because they marketed the game to be completely different than what it really was.
They wouldn't shut up about how they had the guys from [I]Red Dawn[/I] writing the story, an amazing score, and a perk system that totally wasn't copying CoD, and then the game came out and everyone got to see the lame, cliched, boring thing.

I just beat RF1 today, it's sad to see how far the series fell with RF2 and RFA, and IMO they really fucked up with SR3 I think it fell way below SR2's standards.
