BEGINNING?! Where have you been? This guy IS a conspiracy theorists. He makes a huge deal out of tiny documents and rolls around in all the 5 minutes of fame he can get. We got a couple good things out of him, but anything he has left to contribute to us is just going to be crazy rambles like this.
What I find strangest is he had an account at a dating website that had equal security measures and probably the same kinda data facebook would have on him.
OH GOD I MIGHT BE FRIENDS WITH A TERRORIST

Did you just read the title or what? I don't see how warning people about the fact that Facebook has no mechanism for actually removing yourself from the website, a poor record of transparency (read: none) and bows easily to litigative force, more so than some other companies makes you a conspiracy theorist.
I know I'd never put anything even slightly incriminating anywhere on Facebook, not even in "Private" messages.

It's the fact that he talks about it as if it's the average everyman's problem that the US government is hunting you down. Yes this is nice info to know but calling it a government database is just off your rocker in terms of sillyness. There shouldn't be anything the government needs to know about you on your facebook that they don't already know. Even being a retard and talking about how high you are isn't something the government will care about unless you're trying to run for office.
Now corporations getting this information, that's something to wear a tinfoil hat about.

That title looks suspicious because that is not a direct quotation from Assange, just a part of somewhat of an allegory. They couldn't have chosen better clickbait which at the same time makes Assange seem like a bit of a looney. I hate the media sometimes.
Edit: Also information like this about average american citizens is not too worrying because they are not any kind of a threat to their government (lazy basterds) so this will probably not harm them.

It's more of the fact that everything you do on Facebook is entirely voluntary.
Part of the reason I don't use it is because I have lots of dissident views.
Sounds ridiculous until a Special Branch Community Contact Unit officer tries to add you and your friends on facebook for being part of an allegedly extremist, activist group.
You're so edgy and cool. I want to be like you.

He's kind of right though
People are putting tons of what should be personal information in public just because it's the cool thing to do
I'm honestly not scared of the U.S.
Especially not after seeing that the conservatives are going to run the entire country to the ground with their shit.

These are true, yes, and is mainly what I was getting at. The news outlets are most likely to blame for it sounding as sensationalist as it does. Of course most people don't need to worry about it, but he most likely meant it as a reminder to the fact that Facebook has a poor track record with privacy issues.
If you have nothing to hide to the state, then you have nothing to worry about. :smug:

(Western) Society as a whole seems to be rethinking the entire concept of private verses public information, and where each should lay, it may just be a passing trend, but I'm not so sure. Who knows what we'll consider sacred to the individual in 20 years?

Its mad really, even though its not run by the CIA or any intelligence agency it really isn't impossible to imagine that it would not be hard for one to take control of Facebook and mine data.

Mine what data though is the question. What can people really put on their facebook that the government really wants to know about you and prosecute you for?

I am sure some people put illegal things on facebook. It might not be such of a risk in a "free" country, but imagine in a country where being associated with certain political groups or religions is illegal, it could be quite a risk.
But then you would have to argue the person is an idiot for joining a group promoting something like that.

"they are doing free work for United States intelligence agencies"
He's not talking about other countries. It's not illegal to hold beliefs here, as much as conspiracy theorist would like to believe.
What he's saying is not that Facebook is some kind of (direct) supplier of data to the US govt. It's more that in any moment, the feds could come roaming into the Facebook offices and demand a copy of the database. And Facebook would hand it over.

If its plausible that they would do as the CIA say its entirely possible they would do so for other countries intelligence agencies.

yeah, did you? his rhetoric sounds similar to that of a goddamn schizophrenic.
Myspace bought out Assange. ! I called it !
And yet nobody will move back to MySpace, so they wasted a few million to buy him out for nothing.

I too can insult people with mental illnesses. That doesn't help the discussion move forwards or provide any positive evidence for your claims. He was making a reasonable accusation that the US government will/has/is now issuing a subpoena to Facebook that they would adhere to without much/with no resistance.
How is this resolvable to something akin to paranoid delusions?
Even if this were true, which it's not, who cares? At least we're helping America, and not China.
I don't understand the argument about the media; yes it should be less biased, but the only alternative is a government run media, and that always works out so well.

The media sucks because it needs to be more like Al Jazeera (minus the whole pro-Islam and anti-American thing)
I don't have anything to hide so I don't give a fuck
(minus the whole pro-Islam and anti-American thing)
It doesn't exist or I have missed it. I mean the first time I watched it I was expecting to see people chanting death to America while showing clips of dead people.

Al-Jazeera is probably the most objective mainsteam news source

I agree, unfortunately during the very rare cases in which they are biased, they are EXTREMELY biased and make themselves look bad.
