Gun safety is generally taught to all students in high school. Its a shame that it isn't really taught outside of that.
Almost finished with high school and they have mentioned the word 'gun' yet.
dude he picked up a rifle and shot his friend in the head with it.

that's a tad bit more than picking up something shiny and fucking around with it. don't underestimate young children, they are extremely perceptive of gendered norms and know that they should gravitate towards certain things
and again, still waiting on that finnish kid
[editline]10th April 2013[/editline]
children are taught that violence is good from a really young age, before they know the true implications of it. kids play cops and robbers and bullshit like that where they use finger guns like it's nothing. that combined with our gun culture and our hyper masculine culture? cmon

i think the fact that 4 year olds are naturally curious, see a shiny thing, and naturally want to play with it plays a bigger part than american gun culture.
but wtf do i know
If you two continue acting like children with this argument you'll shoot someone.
We should focus more on how this is a tradegy then spiral off into gun control.
are you trying to say that the pure american obsession with firearms and manhood has nothing to do with normalizing violence as play
because if you are i'd say that's a rather foolish thing to think!

and i'm still waiting on that finnish kid who shot someone in the face
I don't think he said that a finnish kid shot someone, I think he was just using an example.
I think this would've gone better if he had said "any kid"
[editline]10th April 2013[/editline]
but like plunger said, this is a silly argument
Whoever owned the gun should be blamed. Why was the gun left, loaded (I assume he didn't load it himself?), somewhere that a 4 year old could reach it?
Guns should be kept in a gun safe or something where a child can't reach it, and when the kid is old enough to understand, they should be taught about gun safety.

I agree. Hell at LEAST put it on top of your dresser or somewhere up high where a kid can't reach it. The gun must have just been sitting on the ground or in a low cabinet for a 4 year old to have gotten to it.

Am I missing something? Normally articles like this usually have a couple of funnies and a ton of friendlies. Is there something in the article that I overlooked or something?

The first post said "Dude stop rating this funny you're so mean" and that always convinces people to rate funny because they want to piss that guy off.
were they playing cod a lot?
One was 6 and the other was 4,at that age I wouldn't be able to comprehend the shape of a controller or figure out to look at a TV without falling over, let alone play goddamn CoD
Doesn't seem that far-fetched honestly. Probably went something like, he found it, thought it looked cool/guns from da tv!!, went to show his friend, ended in tragedy :(
Maybe he thought it was a cool gun from COD.
WHY, WHY, WHY DO ALL THESES STUPID FUCKERS KEEP LOADED GUNS JUST LAYING AROUND? CHRIST PEOPLE
I don't believe it, why was there a loaded rifle just chilling in the house? Hmm? The kids 4, meaning the thing was on the ground, under a bed, propped up against something, etc. Which is the stupidest fucking thing to do especially if it's loaded. Then at the bottom of the article there was another story where a police officer was showing his relatives his guns and a small child picked up one of the guns and killed a woman (his wife?). Come on! You're a goddamn police officer who doesn't properly store firearms? What the fuck is wrong with you guy? You should know better. The thing that pisses me off is these owners have no respect for either the weapons or the rules put in place to keep people safe. And the issue is you can't fix an idiot.
Tldr: If you own a gun follow local laws and safe protocol, it's just common sense.

Ah, that's what I was missing then, thanks. I wasn't paying attention to the posts a whole lot other than making sure they weren't asking the same question as me.
-snip-
My kid shot himself dead with my gun. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have left it in his toybox loaded with the safety off. Probably shouldn't have painted blue and put G.I. Joe decals on it either. Now that I think about it, that expanding poisoned incendiary ammo definitely didn't help
I don't get why it is apparently so hard to keep little kids from getting a hold of guns.
-One, they're fucking small. Seriously, 6-year-olds are like 3 feet tall. Unless you leave it on the floor, they can't get to it.
-Two, they're fucking dumb. You do not need an incredibly intricate and inconvenient hiding spot, because they are too stupid to figure out you have a holster mounted on the back side of the bedroom door where they never see it.
-Three, they're incredibly weak. Even the cheapest, flimsiest locking mechanism is like Fort Knox to a six-year-old. That kid can't break into shit.
The negligence in allowing something like this to happen is simply astounding.
Not in Canada.
It's kind of common sense. Don't point guns at people , don't have the gun aimed at your crotch, keep it away from kids [in a safe].
This should be an issue about irrespnsible parents.

Never underestimate kids.
They can get hurt in the weirdest ways possible.
This is a combination of improper firearm handling and/or storage, and really bad parenting.
Am I the only one here that thought a Playboy Playmate shot the child after reading the title?
Remember parents, the only thing that can stop a bad six year old with a gun is a good six year old with a gun.
This scared me so much.
My half-sister lives in New Jersey with my two nephews, one of which is 6.
It's a sick feeling, man.
And not once did the question rise in the article of where he got the gun in the first place.
I envisioned a little boy being shot by a Playboy Bunny.
An unfounded tragedy because some parents weren't quite clever enough to keep their gun out of the reach of their child without their supervision.
Or maybe there are a lot of guns in the U.S. and shootings sure as fuck seem to happen!?
