Oh man I can't wait!
I like how on the news (in America) they're talking about how this baby will be the king of all these British tracts of land
and I'm just thinking "slow down guys, his dad isn't even king yet and you're already talking about this one day old kid"

Tbh I don't know why people are freaking out about these tweets. They're mostly reasonable criticism of assigning gender to kids for whom it may or may not match.

Because its gone from reasonable (I.e 8+ decide their gender) to fucking lunacy

What's lunatic about it?
What's lunatic about it?
Because it should be pretty obvious that the news is referring to sex as opposed to gender.
Such a cute little family standing together happily on the hospital doorsteps in their matching blue outfits :)

Boy is a pretty gender-loaded term, though. And why does the news need to go on about what sex the baby is in the first place? Why should that matter? These are pretty sensible questions to ask, IMO.

because that's a major 50/50 moment when a fucking child is born, and can determine a whole lot of things
like idk why there are so many people fighting for this whole "EVERYONE SHOULD GET THEIR CHANCE TO DECIDE WHAT THEY ARE!!!!!" movement that's happening recently. I mean things worked just fine when adults or atleast teens were saying that they identified as a different gender, that was okay because they were old enough to make that choice and everyone was cool with it.
It's a fucking boy. He's not gonna be thinking the whole time he's blowing snot bubbles "man i wish i didn't have a wiener"
leave this shit for atleast a decade and a half, when it makes some degree of fucking sense

Well it's relevant in this case because if the sex of the baby was female then there would be a constitutional issue for Canada iirc because the laws of succession haven't been changed to the new UK model yet.
Can't wait for another week full of nothing but "Royal Baby has first blink; Royal Baby just laughed; Person died on Royal Baby's birthday"
Sure, the first few days are fine for celebration, but then it just gets exploited by the media and ruins the occasion.

A lot of trans* people actually know from a pretty young age, well before their teens, so it's not that out there.
Now statistically it's unlikely that this kid is going to be one of those people, but I think it's fair enough to question our need to assign the babies gender before they've had a chance to express what they are. Certainly calling people stupid or insane for doing so is way over the top, IMO, even if you disagree with their point.

Pretty sure the reason most people are going on about it isn't because it might have caused a constitutional issue in Canada, though.

I'm sure it's not, but you did ask why it was important and that's actually why.

Touché.
Baby got a name:
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their son George Alexander Louis, Kensington Palace has said.
The third in line to the throne, who was born on Monday at 16:24 BST, will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
It is thought the Queen was told of Prince George's name when she met him for the first time on Wednesday.
The family are at the Middleton home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, after spending a night at Kensington Palace.
George was the bookmakers' favourite for the first name of the prince.
The duke and duchess had been expected to pick a traditional royal name for their son, who was born at St Mary's Hospital in London, weighing 8lbs 6oz.
Royal infants usually have historical names which are passed down through the generations.
I don't follow all that royal stuff too closely but I thought that was why it's such a big deal about THIS baby. He is THE future King, the next big thing in that royal family.
Prince Charles of course has a spotty personal history, so he's not the King everyone wants to see. His son, being the son of Princess Diana, IS someone people wouldn't mind seeing as King, but he's not the future. William will bridge the gap between the current Queen and whoever takes the throne later...which, as it turns out, is William's first born.
So this was the perfect baby. A male heir right off the bat. He represents all the hopes and dreams of those royals and royal watchers, to take their traditions and bring them into the modern age.
