Game Informer does an interview with an anonymous Valve employee on HL3

It seems like Valve is doing everything but Half-Life 3. So much innovation and talent, I just wish they'd focus on HL3, keep building and scrapping until a game comes out.

Decade well spent :v:
Remember that time you spent pages and pages trying to tell me that Valve was definitely working on Half-Life 3 and that Source 2 wasn't a bad engine when compared to it's peers?
I do.

I do.
And you're bringing this up why?

Not only that, what does that have to do with what you're quoting?
You gonna try and be like Bazsil too?
I have accepted the whole situation and I understand that there might be a lack of inspiration from their part. It always saddens me though. I forget about it but when these threads or news show up I just get reminded of my experiences with half-life 1. Half-life games are a huge part of my childhood and everytime I get reminded its hard because its like having to say good bye to a good friend.

I'm glad he brought it up because it's funny to watch you publically fight your own cognitive dissonance. I don't think you're aware of it, either.
And you're bringing this up why?
Because I find you amusing and the conversation is also pertinent to the thread.

I'd have to know who he is to be like him.

Do you even know what that actually means?
Because I find you amusing and the conversation is also pertinent to the thread.
Its really not, its just you thinking you're getting some clever "Gotcha!" jab in when you've completely missed the mark.
I that it was pretty clever
I that it was pretty clever
You answered 3 quotes. Half-Life 3 confirmed.
The length of time is fine for me. I'd rather have something fresh but still relatable then a recycle of previous games. That's the biggest problem they face right now. When HL1 came out it defined the single player FPS. They weren't the first, they weren't the only ones out there, but they hit the nail on the head. When.HL2 came out they brought physics to the table, which once again they weren't the only ones doing it but they did it right (during a time when pretty much everyone else was using scripted animations). They took full advantage of that physics system with the portal games. Now the question is, over a decade later with things like "iron sights" and "kill streaks" along with a large focus on the multiplayer components in the FPS genre, what is valve going to bring to the table that they'll be able to hit the nail on the head with? I think that's what they're trying to find.

It has to be VR. With all the money they're putting into revolutionizing VR hardware, it's only natural that they're going to try to revolutionize VR software as well. I think there's a decent chance that Half-Life 3 will either be optionally VR or VR exclusive. As far as innovative and revolutionary gameplay goes, that seems like the most logical step forward, and Valve is definitely the best equipped for it.

I think Gabe said in an interview awhile back it wouldnt be VR exclusive, but i can see it being the definitive example of how a VR game should be done if its going to utilize it heavily.

Indeed, he made it pretty explicitly clear they will not make it a VR specific thing.
