You can not be arrested for not producing ID
You can call me stupid all you want, but throwing around insulting adjectives is getting you nowhere & proving nothing.
You can be detained for not having ID.
There is a difference.
that doesn't make sense, if you can't prove you are US legal, you are arrested. a government ID proves this

Only if inability to produce ID constitutes
"PROBABLE CAUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THE PERSON HAS COMMITTED
ANY PUBLIC OFFENSE THAT MAKES THE PERSON REMOVABLE FROM THE UNITED STATES."
and if it does, then that's hilarious, and it's exactly why this is so stupid.
I hope you enjoy this shit over there, cause I'm enjoying the freedom to leave my home without my wallet over here

that's not the point
having an authorization card to walk around outside is kind of creepy in concept
you sound like the kind of person who would be in favor of embedding RFIDs in babies

I think it's unconstitutional.
I should refer to a case in 1979, Brown v. Texas
http://supreme.justia.com/us/443/47/case.html :
When appellant refused to identify himself, he was arrested for violation of a Texas statute which makes it a criminal act for a person to refuse to give his name and address to an officer "who has lawfully stopped him and requested the information."

The application of the Texas statute to detain appellant and require him to identify himself violated the Fourth Amendment because the officers lacked any reasonable suspicion to believe that appellant was engaged or had engaged in criminal conduct. Detaining appellant to require him to identify himself constituted a seizure of his person subject to the requirement of the Fourth Amendment that the seizure be "reasonable."
In the context of the AZ law, the only reasonable suspicion they have is Mexican descent. This is racial profiling.
ur trollin now
ur trollin now
How so? I brought up a case that established 31 years ago that an arrest for failure to identify without suspicion of criminal activity is unconstitutional.
I should add that illegal immigrants are not entitled to protection by all parts of the constitution, & the fourth amendment may not apply to them. It uses the term "the people", which may refer specifically to citizens. So I would consider SB1070 to be not necessarily a violation of the rights of illegal immigrants, but a violation of the rights of legal citizens

it's not a violation of any rights to pull a piece of plastic from your ass
if you can't and/or don't want to, you're just lazy.

Tell that to the supreme court. Supreme court rulings set a precedent, and they set one with Brown v. Texas
I feel bad for the guy that had to go look to see if it was really refried beans and not shit...

How about they just shave your head and put a chip in your brain to identify you? Then you don't even have to expend the effort of getting a card out of your pocket. It's easy, effective, and works much better than a card, because every legal citizen will have one from birth, and have it at all times.
late. i live in az, i support this bill. these illegals need to get out

i fail to see where anyone loses any rights. illegals do not have the right to be in the country. like all countries in the world, it is a privilege to enter a country, not a right.
again, as long as you have proof of legality (a $5 id card), you won't be arrested.

Not everyone carries that around all the time. Say, i'm going for a jog in shorts with no pockets. I was born to two Mexican immigrants in Arizona. Should I have to go to jail until things clear up just so one less illegal immigrant can be happier?

The Fourth Amendment guarantees "the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures."
A temporary detention, even if brief and for the sole purpose of verifying identification/citizenship, constitutes a "seizure" of "persons".
Clearly you are not interested in the legal aspects of this issue, but they are important.
I bet this would go great with Nazi Beans.
profiling my ass
if you are legal and have id, there should be no problem. all you have to do is show a state given id or green card. bam, no problems. it's gotten to the point where illegals just come in and look for a government handout, whereas when they used to get in and work their ass off. in the process of doing nothing they raise the crime rate and other problems
Suppose you're like 3rd generation Hispanic and you've lived in Arizona for ages and you're really American and everything, but because you're Hispanic the police pull you over like every 2-3 days to check to see if you've got id on you. Wouldn't you start getting disaffected with America?
