I love illegal immigrants. Jorge and Alfredo have done so many jobs for my dad, they're like uncles to me!

I know. We still have plenty of illegal immigrants up here, They ride up I10 to all the major cities, Houston being the 4th biggest in the US, is a pretty good place to start you're new life I guess.
We also get people coming in from the sea port, though they don't usually make it. Illegal immigration isn't limited to Mexicans!
yeah but I kinda figured Cuba/Haiti/etc would go for Florida instead.
no offense to texas

We get some Chinese believe it or not. They usually die in transit though. Not easy to take a trip across the ocean in a cargo container. They pretty much come from anywhere with a sea port. But yes, the greater majority, probably in the 80-90% range, are Central American.
They get invasive species of bugs and shit sometimes too. Dad was on the phone for about a week or so trying to get the ants out of that damn X-ray machine.

These guys usually just build shitty rafts and hope they make landfall on Florida. Most the time they get intercepted/rescued by Coast Guard cutters or cargo ship en route to Houston.
From what I see in this thread it's pretty much two sided and split up into two groups. The people against the bill who are intelligent and give reasoning and the ones who think cops are fucking retarded and will arrest every tan person they see.
The other side being the ones who support it. The smart ones who give reasoning and the idiots who make the supports look like dicks.
Sucks to see this but meh.
At first I highly disagreed with the bill because I didn't know much about it and people spread rumors about it twisting what it does.
Eventually when I learned what it actually does and thought of how illegals are effecting employment rates I immediately started supporting it. We can only see how effective it is when it finally takes place.
re-fried bean? what is that..?
re-fried bean? what is that..?
Refried beans are a Mexican delicacy.
Beaner is a slur for Mexicans, so it's a double whammy on the racism.
this law is bumpkin racism, absolutely nothing more, and the exact same sort of thing went on during apartheid.
All I've seen out of you in this entire thread is some fancy googling and your indubitable knack for sounding intelligent. The Fourth Amendment guarantees those things to Lawful United States Citizens. I don't know if you realize this, but Arizona's police for and border patrol are probably, if not the most educated on dealing with illegal immigrants. It isn't that hard to tell between a legal citizen and who isn't. There's certain areas that they stick too, as well as certain mannerisms they portray.
Also, you seem to have this irrational fear of 'being arrested for walking down the street'. Even if you don't have an ID, the most that will probably happen is that you're detained for about 5 minutes while the police officer checks up on whatever information you can provide to him. (Name, Social Security Code from memory, etc) And if you can't provide this, you may have to be taken to wherever to have your legality checked out further.
The funny thing is, in a recent non-discriminatory poll, 70% of Arizonans said they want this bill to pass. (This is somewhat outdated, but nonetheless true) Taken from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2008 information, (I'm sure you and that expansive intelligence of yours can appreciate the numbers in this. 100%-70%=?
You really do have to be a citizen of Arizona to truly understand how bad an effect these illegals have on our local community. You probably heard about this, it made national news; just the other week or so ago, a rancher was killed. By who you might ask? Well, because this ranch was on the border, police officials say it was a group of illegal immigrants who came, took revenge on him for getting in a fight about being on his land, then took off back to mexico. There's so many similar scenarios like this, it's humor was lost upon me ages ago. They have no problem with stealing vehicles and valuables, and taking it back to mexico. Being here is illegal, so whats wrong with committing a few more crimes while they're already here?
People like you make me sick. You should at least try and picture our side of the story before you try too hard to prove your own point.
Your side of the story is moot if your only solution is to violate the constitution.
The Fourth Amendment guarantees those things to Lawful United States Citizens.
Exactly. As I stated earlier, I don't find this to be a crime against illegals as much as a crime against legal citizens.
What it does is it makes it legal for you to be detained just for walking down the street. As I said earlier, it's a seizure of persons. That is acceptable by law if it's within reason - but what reasons would be deemed acceptable for detainment? How do we define reasonable suspicion of illegal immigration? I have a feeling that "certain mannerisms", as you put it, are not a very good reason for detainment. Any police officer could detain anyone by claiming that their mannerisms were a little off. Fourth amendment = flushed down the fucking toilet.
I'm not suggesting an open-door immigration policy. All I'm saying is, don't violate the bill of rights. Is that too much to ask?
You should want it to be constitutional too, because if any state law isn't, the supreme court won't let it stick around
I think a good middle ground for this would be to narrow down the situations in which a person can be required to verify their citizenship. For example- if they've committed a crime, or if they're soliciting for under-the-table work (in those cases, they can already be detained)
I stopped giving a shit about any nationality a few years ago after I realized how ignorant it was, I really could care less who comes into what country.
Always fun to sit back and watch the stupid patriots flip out, american patriots are my favorite.

Quote from the New York Times today:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/28/us/28legal.html
Can Arizona’s controversial new immigration law — allowing the police to stop people and demand proof of citizenship — pass constitutional muster?
To many scholars, the answer is, simply, no.
“The law is clearly pre-empted by federal law under Supreme Court precedents,” said Erwin Chemerinsky, an expert in constitutional law and the dean of the University of California, Irvine, School of Law.
Since the 1800s, the federal government has been in charge of controlling immigration and enforcing those laws, Professor Chemerinsky noted. And that is why, he argued, Arizona’s effort to enforce its own laws is destined to fail.
But even some experts who say they are troubled by the law said it might survive challenges.
“My view of the constitutional question is that it is unconstitutional,” said Hiroshi Motomura, co-author of leading casebooks on immigration law and a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law. “But it’s a far cry from predicting empirically what a judge who actually gets this case will do.”
Yeah, guys, I was just bullshitting and trying to sound smart when I said the same thing the other day.:slick:
It's funny cause Mexico has much stricter immigration laws. They deport way more people than the US does. They can even make citizen's arrests if you're illegal.
I don't know if it has been said yet, but I'm pretty sure cops can only ask you for papers if you are stopped by them. A drivers license or a green card will suffice for identification. We'll see what happens with this.

They can only check if they suspect you of being an illegal after stopping you for some other reason. They can't just stop everyone who looks like a Mexican and demand ID. This is the part that a lot of people either don't realize or fail to respond to IMO. You can't tell if the speeding guy is an illegal, but if he can't produce ID or a Green Card when stopped and his vehicle tags are out of date and he has no insurance on the car(law to have it my state, not sure about AZ), then that would be a good indication that he may be illegal. Simply being Latino is not justification for a check under this law.
A good article on Mexico's immigration laws: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=14632
I wonder how many of these would be considered racist if passed in the US.

What does it matter how they do it, does it justify unconstitutional laws?
Love how you people who don't live in Arizona are complaining about this. It doesn't affect you nor do you know what it's like to live there.
Love how you people who don't live in Arizona are complaining about this. It doesn't affect you nor do you know what it's like to live there.
Wrong. If the supreme court looks over it (they will) and approves of it, that will affect the ability of any US state to enact similar bills
