No idea. And we can't trust Ubi to say why 'cause they're fucking liars. And if they say "it's our artistic vision" I'm gonna punch a goddamn chicken. (chicken punching will not be guaranteed, but I'll still flip a shit and probably get smashed on Latvian Black Balsam)
If it runs better with the E3 2012 graphics, then why would Ubisoft make the PS4/XBO use the worse performing graphics?
Yeah, that's why I doubt the performance claims (Along with 99% of the other claims because half the time they're made by morons). If the game ran and looked better in 2012, then why on earth would they change it to run slower and look worse? Claims about them targeting consoles don't hold weight because that's where they'd want it to be the fastest. It doesn't help that people who have no idea are opening files, seeing the term "E3" and thinking they're super secret settings that help performance (When in reality they're years old leftover dev content from demos), and honestly I think the mod makes the game look worse, the contrast is all wrong, bloom has been turned up to 11, DoF has given Aiden glasses made of baking paper and vaseline, etc.
We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they’re released, striving for the best possible quality.
Bullshit. For PC the game was so poorly optimized this statement is laughable.

So Ubisoft is limiting the performance on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC to promote the games on the 360 and PS3?
Ubisoft can go suck a massive fat cock. They are worse than EA
At the moment it's likely, but any one company could reach the top of our shitlists before the year is out.
So Ubisoft is limiting the performance on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC to promote the games on the 360 and PS3?
Reaching a larger audience
So Ubisoft is limiting the performance on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC to promote the games on the 360 and PS3?
It's possible. Bungie is with Destiny performance wise
I like how they tried to spin it. Saying the community is great like people found those settings and were happy because they love Ubisoft so much. What a joke.
I like how they tried to spin it. Saying the community is great like people found those settings and were happy because they love Ubisoft so much. I believe this is just an example of why you wait for a game to come out before you buy it. Just don't pre-order and you save yourself from this.
I believe this is just an example of why you wait for a game to come out before you buy it. Last time I gave into the vice of hype, I got Mass Effect 3, and we all know how that ended up. After that, and their betrayal of the fanbase by slicing off Javik's content and serving it up as DLC, I swore off EA games and pre-orders in general. And then I went down to the river and received a baptism as part of my inauguration into the sacred order of Being A Sensible Consumer.

But I waited for it to be on sale, I think I paid $5. Absolutely worth it at that price. Still awaiting my Origin Wide Account Ban for playing with my FoV changed to 90, though
Thing is most folks don't have the goddamn moxie to keep up a boycott. Soon as the company puts out a game that gets them hyped, they start to get the shakes and cave in to throw their 6 Alex Hamiltons at the product. (he's the guy on the ten dollar bill) And then of course there is the usual large herds of uninformed ignorant "commoners" who don't care about the general politics of the gaming world and just want the latest military shooty bang bang for that Xbax. I hesitate to call them gamers, since real gamers are smart folks like us, keeping their finger on the pulse and scrutinizing the activities of companies like Ubisoft and Slacktivision and Volvo, taking our "hobby" more seriously than some schoolboy who plays CoD to distract himself from his single mom's drinking problem. For us gaming is not simply an escape from the unspeakable eldritch horrors that are devouring the world bit by bit from within, without and beyond. For us, it is a field of bonfires; a city of fine arts; a world of political intrigue and high fantasy; a massive and complex industry. We kindle the bonfires of the artists with our time and money, sharing stories about our experiences with other travellers. We think about what we have experienced and wonder what if anything we overlooked. We know that it is expensive to make games, and that trends can change on a dime. The trouble is, for every member of the "glorious gaming master race" (there are presumably console gamers who share our kindling spirit) who sees the true horror and vows not to finance disrespectful companies, there are a dozen or so ignorant peasants who throw their money without much forethought or regard for the politics and shenanigans of the gaming world, making our attacks on the pocketbook little more than light dents. In other words, for every log of Lincolns we refuse to throw on Ubisoft's bonfire, there will always be 10 or so wads of dosh thrown recklessly at Assassin's Creed Unity pre-orders and exclusive FarCry 4 Day 1 Elephant Breeding DLC to spite our virtuous self-sacrifices. We burn over and over again for the sake of making our disapprovals heard, and our actions against the guilty corporations barely leave a scratch on their over-all profits. It's so frustrating, wanting to make a change to the industry but being too small and weak to make changes on our own, and even as a group it's crazy-hard to make big companies listen. I know I'm rambling again, but I just wish that we could make the peasantry have more goddamn restraint, patience and overall industry savvy, so they can be as we are and make a massive dent in the profits of the corporation. It's not like we need games to survive, even if they do distract us from the unending horrors of our world and help keep us relatively sane.
I'd try to add something, but you pretty much nailed everything accurately. Both Activision and Ubisoft are ruining the gaming world. Activision turned what was once a prestige game that could nowadays be taken seriously in the pro scene, into a broken thing with the life span of a year and nothing but sludgy and toxic appendages. CoD really has no way to come back. And Ubisoft itself stated that they would be essentially milking the Assassin's Creed franchise because there was too much money to made from it. They really said this, word by word. They didn't even try to mask their greed. And then, the lazyness and shoddy work they do shows up aswell. And this is very sad to me. I've stopped buying CoD games, which I actually really enjoyed, because even with somewhat reasonable titles like the ones done by Treyarch, the game's multiplayer would be dead within a year. No matter how good the singleplayer might be, it isn't worth spending 60€ on it, even worse when it stays at 60€ for years on end. Ubisoft is almost the same thing. Difference is, their games go on sale, unlike Activision's "sales"... Because of all that, I've resorted to only buying and following a handful of titles that I am extremely sure to possess nearly unmatched quality. I lose out on a lot of things, but then again, I end up playing only a couple of selected games.
The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we’ve set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they’re released, striving for the best possible quality.
sounds like a good old fashion circle jerking to me because no you fucking don't lol
While this makes it clear that Ubisoft won't be taking steps to re-enable these old settings, modders are digging in already. Just like with the Grand Theft Auto IV iCEnhancer mod, it's possible that those with extremely powerful computers could be playing Watch Dogs with visuals like this (and reduced or eliminated performance issues) in the future.
Yeah but this is nothing like GTA4 ICE this is literally just changing some config settings, not a whole reworking [editline]19th June 2014[/editline] I don't even remember buying any of my ubisoft games outside of farcry 3 and assassins creed 2/BH/rev all the rest I got free via graphics card promo or whatever [editline]19th June 2014[/editline] I really plan on keeping it this way

Still awaiting my Origin Wide Account Ban for playing with my FoV changed to 90, though
I'll give them that, I had a good time with the multiplayer while it lasted, even if it was pretty much Horde Mode with additional objectives on certain waves. That said, splitting the development effort (and budget, for that matter) between the actual campaign and a co-operative multiplayer mode meant both failed to reach their full potential, with various parts of the singleplayer looking like they coulda had a bit more work done (like making the various campaign stages being completable in the order of choice rather than one string, allowing for stuff like Tali on Tuchanka or having more of the ME2 Crew be permanent squad members), and the multiplayer could maybe have benefited from more of a campaign-like structure rather than just "go to Firebase Whatever, last X waves, do special objectives sometimes".
So Ubisoft is limiting the performance on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC to promote the games on the 360 and PS3?
IIRC the PS3/360 versions still needed to be chopped down even further to run on those.
Ubisoft, how fucking dare you talk about stability when you released the game with a GAME BREAKING BUG which wipes out all of your meaningful progress in the game and makes it impossible to advance. Shame on you.
boycotts never work because not one fucker adhered to them people were boycotting ubisoft before, but as soon as they saw the watch_dogs e3 demo they collectively shat themselves and hopped on board the hype train
Not everyone. Haven't paid them a dime in years, and I won't be starting anytime soon. I haven't lost anything for not playing their games, either, plenty of other better deserving folks out there can have all my money. Fuck them. Not a dime. [editline]20th June 2014[/editline]
At least ME3's multiplayer was alright. But I waited for it to be on sale, I think I paid $5. Absolutely worth it at that price. Boycuts are easy, I haven't bought an EA game since battlefield 3. BF audience is obviously just money cows for EA and dice. I refuse to buy a game and then buy an endless stream of DLC and sequels just to keep playing.
Ubisoft treats people like idiots. And I don't even mean their PR, I mean in their games. I've actually become stupider since playing Black Flag after looking at their excuse for puzzles.
i do admit, black flags puzzles where stupid easy. But it wasn't a total flop, The time it takes to collect every item is ridiculous which I really didn't mind.
The first sentence and you already see how they're full of shit.
They disabled the features due to stability and performance? But people such as TotalBiscuit said that the framerates barely changed if at all. This is bullshit and they know it. I am calling all PC gamers to join me in boycotting Ubisoft permanently (at least Ubisoft Montreal). Ubisoft needs to answer for their bullshit. And everyone giving me boxes: You're really going to keep buying their games after they lied to you like this? You're really going to let them get away with it?
lmao [editline]20th June 2014[/editline] all game devs lie get over it jesus
"Thanks for playing Watch Dogs and believing in our vision. Stay safe on the mean streets of Chicago.".
Wow, its like the shit cherry on top of the shit cupcake.

At this point Ubisoft is just embarrassing themselves.

I'd suggest you looked for those franchises that only get a release every bunch of years. Metal Gear Solid, for example, only has releases every 3, 4 or even 5 years. They have a rather long development cycle, and what do you get you may ask? One HELL of a game. That might not be to your liking, so... How about GTA? 4-5 year gap between releases, and what do we get? 10/10 worth games. TES? 7 year development cycle. A guy just has to look for the right titles. Far Cry 4 seems like it MIGHT fall in the category of rehashed game with just a few differences, but it apparently has enough changes to actually warrant a buy. But I wouldn't say the same about Assassins Creed...
If you're going to claim that they purposefully gimped the PC visuals "for the sake of the consoles", you're fairly delusional. As proven by this very thread, doing such a thing for that reason would massively hurt or kill their consumer relations. Any money gained from Sony/ MS for such a thing wouldn't outweigh the lifetime earnings for the game (and cannot be used to show the success of the game, so the shareholders won't give a fuck). There is zero reason they would have done this to promote the consoles or whatever, Ubisoft don't actually have to care about the consoles or anything like that, exclusivity isn't something they tend to concern themselves with, and their games are rarely funded by the hardware manufacturers (why would they need that? they're one of the biggest third parties). There is a reason they removed the E3 shaders, what that is I can't say, and whether what they stated is correct or not is an interesting question. Yeah sure the E3 shaders do offer an improvement to the visuals, but they really don't look right for the gameplay, everything is far too dark and distracting, it's entirely likely the playtesters thought this detracted from the gameplay (the thing you guys bitch and moan about to no end when a developer focuses on visuals, make you fucking minds up already). It could be the shaders performed weirdly on certain hardware sets (the mod does more than enables these shaders, from what I understand it contains numerous tweaks to other aspects of the rendering too). It could very well be that they work weirdly in certain areas and they just didn't have the time to fix it. The one thing is almost certainly isn't is a purposeful degradation "for the sake of the consoles".
