Journalists have contacts with links to the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and Taliban officials deliberately give these tapes/pictures to the contacts to give to the journalists.

the idea is, though, on top of that is the taliban are more like organized crime; they offer protection of the families who participate in their acts. being protected by the people who are killing people for not seeing eye-to-eye with their religious ideas and the military at the same time (for what the protection is worth by both parties) is way better than being protected by a conventional military who could care less about their existence
on top of that, terrorists groups like al queda and the taliban are very, very well funded despite what everybody sees of them. suicide bombers often blow themselves up because these terrorist organizations offer lifetime benefits of their families, and so these organizations look for men who are very financially troubled

in other news, there's a chance the taliban might execute this man and they might not. if there isn't substantial media coverage, he might just be freed because their objective is lost. They know that Western countries adore overdramatic media coverage and so they will do anything they can. if executing him and relaying a message afterwords is the only way to get our attention, then that's what they will do. otherwise they have no reason at all to hold him. chances are they'll throw acid on his face and let him walk to remind him he's not welcome.
This poor guy will have his head cut off, on film, and then uploaded to Al Jazeera all in the name of a peaceful religion
