Malaysian passenger airliner shot down over Ukraine near Russian border

There is no proof that the airline was shot down from land though. Strelkov claims that it was shot down by a jet.
Let's wait until we get some information from investigators.
How did a rookie rebel get his hands on this kind of firepower?
Most of the rebel forces aren't the brightest bunch, and most of them are younger fighters.

Well, I don't think the separatist would be highly trained on using the weapons they have received or captured.
Latest post on http://vk.com/strelkov_info claims that it was shot down by a ukrainian jet (again), because there were 3 explosions, 2 people parachuted out of the plane and a ukrainian jet was spotted flying in the opposite direction (I am not sure if that is the case, they just say that a jet was spotted flying towards Debiltsevo). They link http://mikhailosherov.livejournal.com/828306.html to say that the crash was actually planned and http://signor-antonio.livejournal.com/378722.html as a testimony of a spanish traffic controller.

Most of them are afghanistan veterans you wanted to say?
They are mostly the ex-military who our government rejected. At least on the video reports they are all well over 40 years.

Except the confirmation that it was hit by a SAM?
How did a rookie rebel get his hands on this kind of firepower?
The Separatists have been posting photos of their stolen SAMs for weeks.

Wait why are you citing the fucking leader of the seperatists
So yeah, a media site decided to be assholes and show the passports of two victims before the families could even be notified.

I have a feeling this isn't gonna end well.
I honestly think this was the rebels trying to repeat their success with the Antonov and then failed horribly

I am Igor Strelkov.

this sounds wacky
It's not like a blackbox will exactly tell you much besides "and then everything blew the fuck up". It's not really useful for determining who fired.

Didn't the rebels confirm another A-26 shot literally moments after the crash happened, without any other planes being actually shot down? The rebels as far as I know only have land-based AA, so if it actually were a jet this whole shitstorm might just become a lot shittier.
On the other hand, it could've been a coincidence but it's a very convenient one then.

The strelok info thing said that they shot down an AN-26 and had reports of a different SU plane crashing. This is bullshit through and through.

First they say it was a great Elf in shining armor, then they say it's some sort of small dwarf-man, then they say it was a pack of rebel Uruk-Hai, or maybe it's all the lot put together.

It was actually Sarumon the whole time

You disagree with him or don't like this personally. Does that make him irrelevant?

What I see is the rebels desperately trying to cover their tracks. It doesn't directly implicate them, but it looks suspicious as hell.

never let morality get in the way of a good story
They are saying that Strelkov himself hadn't confirmed any planes being shot down, and that the AN-26 message came from rumors out of group discussions. They're also calling the ukrainians "kiev nazis". Classy.
In my opinion it could have been shot down by either side seeing as Ukraine reinstated conscription after the Euromaiden coup. As is the general theme with conscripts, training is often lackluster and I would imagine that training would be 'accelerated' given the current situation so a new AA tech may only be told how to lock onto a target and fire.
The rebel situation is pretty self explanatory, you have a mix of disgruntled youth and middle-aged men who probably have little experience with the weapons systems outside of individual experience.

Hes a biased source that just posted some batshit insane shit thing about people parachuting out of the plane.

Jesus. It would be awful to find out a child you know died through fucking RT.
if it was downed at 32,000 feet that is just outside the range of most modern manpads. Some can do it but probably nothing the separatists would have. Someone said they got a Buk launcher, if so that is probably what did it.

The Pro-Russian separatists are 100% impartial.
We at facepunch don't need any investigation or proof. We are all world class experts on weaponry, politics and aircraft. Why meddle with opinions, rumors, information, proof?
Fuck this shit.
Roll in the guillotines, hang the ones we dislike as a group! It's that simple.
Fox news reported that Ukraine had issued a flight warning for flights between 27k and 32k ft above the area. The plane was at 33k.

You can prove it didn't happen?
