Do you even known at wich heigh those planes were fliyng?! compare 4000-5000 m to 10 000m.
jeez, come on people!
if you're gonna sperg out and defend them so vehemently at least know the ranges.
The malaysian plane was at 30,000 ft+ or so, outside the range of manpads. It wasn't intercepted by another plane. The Buk launcher looks like a likely candidate.
Still, I couldn't think of any reasons for Ukraine or Russia to shoot down the airliner.
First, it's full of foreign citizen and shooting it down won't be good for both sides.
Second, from the flight path of the plane I can't think of any reason for Ukraine military to panic and open fire.
Third, it would be very risky for the Russian to shoot a plane over their border.
No logical reason for mh17 to have been shot down other than a buk being fired at an at the time unidentified aircraft.
I can't come up with anything else with what we have so far.

Less than half a page ago the mod asked people to stop being so personal about this.

its probably a dangerous mix of incompetence and ego on behalf of the separatists.
"hurr durr this is DPR airspace noaw no flying allowed"
*starts shooting at all the blips on the radar*
Three aircraft were downed in the same area in the last few weeks. Two from surface to air missiles, while one the Ukrainians swore got shot down by a Russian fighter jet, and it was outside of the range on manpads. It's always possible they got the buks from somewhere else as well.

Unconfirmed video of seperatists driving around in a Buk launcher.

Confirmed on our TV networks, it's a little strange because family lost 2 people from Springfield are only a few minutes away from my house
I didn't know them though, but what they're going through right now must be painful
Premier of Queensland Campbell Newman broke the news today that 9 Queenslanders have been killed in this event, the 28th person to die on the Australian side is yet to be said what state they came from
All government buildings are flying the flag and state flag half mast tomorrow as a sign of respect

Its more likely the rebel they put in charge of the missle launcher didn't know the difference between a military cargo plane and a commercial airliner.

Well, Malaysian airlines are going to have a hard time getting customers after this.
All flags are already half mast here.
In Nijmegen, Arnhem and Venlo at least a lot of houses are also flying half mast.
This is a massive tragedy for the Netherlands, just like other involved countries. I really hope its a turningpoint for the better in this goddamned conflict.

if they're fucking cheep I'll use them
We lost a politician, and a high profile AIDSresearcher amongst all other innocents
if they're fucking cheep I'll use them
They'll get cheap trust me. After the MH370 incident you can literally fly business class for the price of a budget airline ticket.
Gotta love the newspapers here. Their front page was "WORLD WAR 3, MALAYSIAN JET SHOT DOWN OVER UKRAINE."
So what does this mean for the separatist? They killed a politician, will Australia
Retaliate?
if this is true, holy shit this is pathetic
own up you fuckers; the truth will come out eventually
Lol @ 'truth will come out eventually' like 5 years later

no
how about they have planted in the plane dead bodies from the mortuary, thrown passport, plane detonated themselves without a soul, well, yes, the first re-routed, and exactly over the militia separatists. perfectly invented
what
What did I miss? It seems like an international disaster has turned into a political argument somehow. Anyone have a summary?

Plane explodes mid air. US confirm it was shot down.
All sides blaming each other. Rebels remove a bunch of claims about having AA capability.
Rebels take black box but let international teams inspect the site.
Theres lot of other speculation about "leaked rebel conversations" and "shooting at crash site" but they aren't confirmed for obvious reasons.

So it's being run by edgy teenagers?
As terrible as the situation is, it's hardly going to provoke a military reaction.

As I said a few pages back, if the US had serious evidence it was the fault of the rebels they would have heavily implied it by now.

What is it this all this "edgy" thing flying around facepunch?
And teenagers?
That headline is clearly there to get money.
Now it is confirmed that they are trying to hide away the BUK-M! Those fucking bastards!

Agreed but I wanted to give a totally unbias view of it for the guy to make up his own mind.
Theres no evidence for anything yet.
Turns out two of the guys killed were from my city, and one of them is widely known for always wearing a suit to football games. They were on their way to watch Newcastle play a friendly :(

The US has satellites and a dozen other forms of surveillance trained on the area. They should have been able to see images of the incident as it happened. By now they should know whether the missile was fired from a government or rebel controlled area. The fact that they've been relatively subdued in their rhetoric suggests to me that the evidence doesn't point to the culprit they want.
That fucking sucks, one single guy and his ground-to-air missile killing over 200 people, just like that.
I hope he committed suicide already.
