The US has satellites and a dozen other forms of surveillance trained on the area. They should have been able to see images of the incident as it happened.
how do you even know what you're saying is even true lmao
protip: you don't
Welp. Now we've got a war. Only question is who's going to be fighting it. From what I understand there was 28 Americans on that plane as well, so it's definitely not going to go unnoticed in Washington, and of course Europe is going to be livid.
Regardless what it was, if there are no survivors it could be months before we actually know what happened. Black boxes and the recorders are good, but don't provide everything.
It's made a tense situation even worse.
As morbid as it sounds, if it actually was shot down I want to see the black box data. I want to see how a modern commercial airline copes with sudden catastrophic damage like that.
So what does this mean for the separatist? They killed a politician, will Australia
Retaliate?
It was a Dutch politician, member of the senate.
It was a Dutch politician, member of the senate.
so the rebels have now killed children, foreign politicians, and aids researchers
this will cause problems for PR

there have been loads of incidents like this in history where important people have died in accidental aa engagements
and nothing happened
The US has satellites and a dozen other forms of surveillance trained on the area. They should have been able to see images of the incident as it happened. By now they should know whether the missile was fired from a government or rebel controlled area. The fact that they've been relatively subdued in their rhetoric suggests to me that the evidence doesn't point to the culprit they want.
satellites really can't track mobile forces... the rebels have been on the move for months now, these systems are designed purposefully to be moved too, satellites can only see where the launchers were like yesterday.
idk why people always think satellites can magically show everything, they can only take a picture of stuff where we point them at
Until that super HD canviewafootoffthegroundfromspace camera array is launched
Not sure if posted yet but

Don't really need a black box to figure that out, the plane disintegrated in midair.

Has it increased? Last I heard, it was 23 Americans "feared dead".
There does need to be repercussions for this catastrophe in any case. This crisis in the Ukraine has gone on for too long now, and this event is the best opportunity for foreign intervention. The rebels need to be put down, and the Russians need to be convinced to back down and fuck off for good.
The only question is whether or not the public will be outraged enough at this event to call for intervention at last. I don't know, do people seem very outraged in Europe yet? What about Australia? Just curious.
This really does have all the makings for a Lusitania-style incident, if it's played out right.
Civilian aircraft over Ukraine territory?
"they were definitely bringing spies!!"
ffs

This has been posted a few times.
Care to explain how you know it isn't fake?
Well, Malaysian airlines are going to have a hard time getting customers after this.
This will probably be the end of Malaysian airlines. They lost 600 people in 3.5 months. A lot of superstitious people will flat out avoid Malay airlines and nervous fliers are likely to avoid them too. Regular informed people will most likely keep flying them but this is a serious blow, since the the first incident already pushed Malay airlines down.
Care to explain how you know it is fake?
It's suspicious. SBU is discrediting rebels, and people in this thread mentioned that such recordings have been faked before.

I haven't ever seen evidence that shows any of the SBU recordings being fake. I'm very sure they're real, Ukrainian fakes are very easy to disprove most of the time

Not to mention their stock is down over 50% from before MH370 went missing. It's only a matter of time now.

Yeah. Fucking schrodinger's information.

Yes, the system can be moved, but they can't simply drive it wherever they want. Ideally you'd want to keep it reasonably safe from ground attack, ie behind your own lines. If it was fired by the rebels then we can be reasonably sure that it was somewhere well within rebel-controlled territory at the time. If the data shows the missile did not originate from rebel held territory that increases the likelihood of the government being responsible.
Not to mention their stock is down over 50% from before MH370 went missing. It's only a matter of time now.
It's sucks too because both incidents were completely out of their control. I've flown them a few times, they're a really high quality airline in my opinion. If you look at their stock ticket now it's fucking in free fall.

I wish I could buy stocks right now, because I would. They will inevitably go back up in price
Updated numbers are in.
189 Dutch, 44 Malaysia, 27 Australia, 12 Indonesia, 9 UK, 4 Belgium, 4 Germany, 3 Philippines, 1 Canada, 1 New Zealand.

Depends if they fly any planes over syria any time soon.
Care to explain how you know it is fake?
This isn't how you determine truth. You prove something is true, not prove it isn't false. mdeceiver79 also never claimed it was fake, so you kinda made that part up.
Why would simply accept some recording of people talking in a foreign language as what it claims to be at face value?
I wish I could buy stocks right now, because I would. They will inevitably go back up in price
They'll most likely go bust. Travel agents and all sorts of booking agencies are being swamped with requests for refunding of tickets with them.

Do you know what's really good at getting between satellites and things of interest?
Clouds.

Euronews said yesterday that there were like 20-something Americans on the plane.
Euronews said yesterday that there were like 20-something Americans on the plane.
None of those have been confirmed by Malaysia Airlines at this time.
Euronews said yesterday that there were like 20-something Americans on the plane.
CNN briefly reported it too. There were probably people with dual citizenship here, all foreign-born though.
Turns out two of the guys killed were from my city, and one of them is widely known for always wearing a suit to football games. They were on their way to watch Newcastle play a friendly :(
