I hope this shows NATO how pointless the conflict is and they try to end it. But then again, it's NATO
If the conflict is pointless, wouldn't it be better to not get involved at all?
I think I read somewhere in this thread that the Russian rebels had bragged about capturing a Buk system but after the plane was shot down they removed all of those tweets. Can someone confirm this?
I think I read somewhere in this thread that the Russian rebels had bragged about capturing a Buk system but after the plane was shot down they removed all of those tweets.
yup they tweeted it, than deleted it, but BBC took screenshot of it, posted it yesterday, google is your friend.
Well they showed pictures of the SA11 launcher. Whether or not they have a fully function BUK system (this includes several vehicles and radar equipment to function) is still debatable.
yup they tweeted it, than deleted it, but BBC took screenshot of it, posted it yesterday, google is your friend.
Well, this sure looks suspicious, but if i was in their place, i would delete these tweets regardless of who's guilty. Exactly because it would look very suspicious either way. Probably they just panicked, but it's unclear if they panicked because they accidentally shot the plane down, or because they realized that everyone would think it was them after these tweets. So this doesn't tell much imo.
A friend of mine's cousin was on the flight
All this shit thats going down is starting to feel like a third world war is near.
All this shit thats going down is starting to feel like a third world war is near.
Not really no.
All this shit thats going down is starting to feel like a third world war is near.
It will only feel like a World War when every country is preparing their armies for a war, now stop.
I'm not sure the angle of that cut is right for an air to air missile.
All anti-air missiles are proximity fused explosives, and they'll all generate shrapnel to slice through aircraft. Like you said, it's more about the angle, but that is dependent on where, in relation to MH17, the projectile exploded.
Large conflicts like that went out of style after world war 2.
And World War One was a war to end all wars.
Joep Lange, a leading AIDS/HIV researcher en route to a AIDS research conference in Melborne, was on board. Source
You know, Russians seem to really really hate gay people. I wonder if the alleged rebels would shoot the plane down on purpose if they had known that, given the myths that surround HIV and homosexuals.
I'm not sure the angle of that cut is right for an air to air missile.
Would the material the plane is made of make a difference?
You know, Russians seem to really really hate gay people. I wonder if the alleged rebels would shoot the plane down on purpose if they had known that, given the myths that surround HIV and homosexuals.
I also want to point out that I think this theory is crazy crackpot, it's just a thought that wandered into my head during a shower moment that I wanted to throw out there. It seems to be incredibly unlikely to me for them to have actually known, the stars would have to align for such a thing to happen. Just so you don't misinterpret me.
And World War One was a war to end all wars.
Those were different times, a war on the scale of WW1 or 2 is next to impossible nowadays, due to the interlinked economy. World leaders understand this, and this is why, even if Russia themselves said; "Hey, we fired the rocket that hit the plane", they won't do anything, because pushing one domino means the other gets toppled, and the next, etc. Though, I sincerely hope those Belgian passangers weren't one of my friends, he hasn't been online for the past 48 hours and I am starting to get slightly worried.
And World War One was a war to end all wars.
it's been the longest period of relative peace in history, we haven't had any big wars like WW2
there have been loads of incidents like this in history where important people have died in accidental aa engagements and nothing happened
Didn't the president of Poland get killed when his plane fell down in Russia when he was en route to a memorial, not so long ago?
I don't see a few million men sitting in trenches in the age of drone bombings and precision strikes.
Well obviously, however it's ignorant to say that a world conflict isn't possible. It has very very slim chances of happening; but don't say it cannot. [editline]18th July 2014[/editline]
it's been the longest period of relative peace in history, we haven't had any big wars like WW2
Peace in the western world, yes. The same cannot be said for the Middle East and Africa. And to the scale of World War Two, no we haven't had one Like that since it was the deadliest war in history.
and warfare is drastically different than it was in the mid 20th century
Agreed, and instead of soldiers charging forwards, you have hackers, instead of artillery bombardment, you have DDoS attacks, etc. And no country is prepared to start a war over such, nor over things like these, as every economy is so interlocked at the moment, that if you declare war on one nation, the rest goes down like dominoes. At worst, you'll have more sanctions and leaders of each nations spewing passive-aggressive lines at eachother.
Never said it couldn't happen. And then I can ramble on how callin world war 1 and 2 is wrong and how they were just really large wars but not world wars. But what I define as a world war I don't see happening ever and if it does may god help us all. Latest numbers from Malaysia Airlines: 192 Dutch, 44 Malaysian, 27 Australian, 12 Indonesian , 9 UK, 4 Belgium, 4 German, 3 Philippine, 1 Canadian, 1 United States, 1 New Zealanders, 1 unknown.
I agree, sorry man :/ I didn't want to sound like a dick, you're right too.
Those were different times, a war on the scale of WW1 or 2 is next to impossible nowadays, due to the interlinked economy. .
This is what they thought in the 20th century as well, and yet WWI happened. I wouldn't go as far to say that international war is impossible, it's just highly unlikely.
The world is simply to small for another huge war.
Unfortunately, there may be more HIV researchers than Lange who was onboard....Goddammit.
The field of HIV/AIDS research has suffered a savage blow as reports suggest that as many as 108 leading researchers and advocates within the field were on board the Malaysia Airlines flight that that crashed yesterday. While the loss of any individual in such an instance is an extreme tragedy, the situation is particularly saddening given the loss of knowledge and expertise that was dedicated to tackling this dire global health problem.
Source Those responsible need to have this held over their head for the rest of their lives, this is, in my opinion, a true crime against humanity.
The romanian canadian student was one of those headed for the HIV convention.A tough loss, considering all of those scientists' potential for bettering the world. RIP [thumb]http://actualitateaortodoxa.com/stiri/images/Flag-Pins-Canada-Romania.jpg[/thumb]
The sad thing is that those responsible won't care, they're terrorists.
Grand assumption there. What if it was accidental.
The sad thing is that those responsible won't care, they're terrorists.
That's a huge assumption.
The sad thing is that those responsible won't care, they're terrorists.
If it being a fault of misidentification is true, this is a VERY scummy thing to say.
Whoever started this is going to wish they were never born. It may take a while, but they will eventually be found.
