eh i kinda doubt that someone just did this for fun (which is what it'd have to be for them to completely not care)
Honestly, I was all for the separation of Crimea - right up until this point in time. The pro-Russia rebels have been trying to capture more land and have caused so many unnecessary deaths. I cannot see how Russia/Putin can continue to support the pro-Russia rebels in the Ukraine after this.
Grand assumption there. What if it was accidental.
you'd call this an accident?
you'd call this an accident?
Someone was saying before that untrained rebels might've thought it was a spy plane. Who knows?
Someone was saying before that untrained rebels might've thought it was a spy plane. Who knows?
according to the translations we saw earlier on some recorded conversation, the guy making calls was told it had malaysia airline markings, and he said nobody was supposed to be flying around there, that it was a trick and it was full of spies. If that's true I think the dipshit was entirely unaware of their own no-fly rules, even if it was right at the top of the bubble
That's a huge assumption.
I think its pretty obvious from what evidence we have.
Sure makes the Russian rebels look uber incompetent/careless. They were shooting down Ukrainian military planes everyday 3 days following up to this. They knocked out an AN-26 and two SU-25s. They were just careless and saw another big plane said "ooo AN-26!" and fired.
Very good article here, interview with a Russian who went to Ukraine to fight. He agrees with the cause but says they are led by fools and warns people not to go:

Gives you an insight into the severe lack of quality leadership within the Donbass rebels and shows you why Putin is constantly facepalming and being stressed out by them.
When left to their own devices rather than led by the invading military like in Crimea, the nationalist rebels aren't the most organized or skilled. Just like any rebellion really; really interesting seeing stuff you read about happen in the past repeat itself in the present just in a different setting.
If this was done by mistake by one of the separatists (and it looks likely that it was), then I can't imagine life is too pleasant for them right now - I would guess that Ukraine, other Separatists and Russia are all out to get them for making such a huge and tragic fuck up.
This whole rebel thing is stupid, Putin needs to man the fuck up and pull a Crimea and just end this insurgency shit. It's obvious what his goals are, to destabilize Ukraine.. what's more destabilizing than annexing a countries economy?
This whole rebel thing is stupid, Putin needs to man the fuck up and pull a Crimea and just end this insurgency shit.
If he did that at this point he'd be in a lethal confrontation with Ukrainian military and state. You really want a war between Russia and Ukraine?
He maybe could have pulled it off if he did it coinciding with the Crimean invasion but he already used his trap card he can't do it again now, it's too late for that.
eh i kinda doubt that someone just did this for fun (which is what it'd have to be for them to completely not care)
They'll just see it as a side effect of what they think is liberating a country.
why did this have to happen on my birthday

Take this with a grain of salt considering it's Gizmodo but
Remember @CongressEdits, the tweetbot that alerts whenever a Wikipedia article is edited from a government IP address? There's a Russian version now, and it just uncovered some pretty drastic edits to a Wikipedia article that mentions Flight MH17, originating from a Russian government IP address.
As The Telegraph reports, @RuGovEdits tweeted that a computer user from within the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VHTRK) edited the Russian-language version of the Wikipedia entry about the Malaysian Airlines passenger jet shot down over Ukraine yesterday.
The original version of the Wikipedia article listing civil aviation accidents stated that MH17 had been shot down "by terrorists of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic with Buk system missiles, which the terrorists received from the Russian Federation." Emphasis added.
The edits originating from the government-owned computer changed the article to read "the plane [flight MH17] was shot down by Ukrainian soldiers". Again, emphasis added.
@RuGovEdits alerted the public with a tweet that says (translated): "Wikipedia article List of aircraft accidents in civil aviation has been edited by RTR [another name for VGTRK]".
If @RuGovEdits is to be trusted (and considering the Wiki-twitterbot code is widely available on Github, it probably can be), it certainly seems like someone within the Russian government is working to hide the widely-held fact that Russian weapons were used to bring down MH17. But while Wikipedia might be malleable, it's also transparent. [The Telegraph via Amanda Zamora]

Are you fucking insane/Hitler?
Yes, lets have countries just outright invade each other for land grabs. Lets totally ignore how the people living there feel.

Are you stupid?
That is legitimate Ukrainian territory, and if the Russians went for a land grab, you'd have something much worse than some insurgency on your hands. The Ukrainian military would likely fight to keep THEIR territory, and if the Russians succeeded, there would probably be some pro-Ukrainian insurgency taking place, except they would have a legitimate reason to fight the Russians. It's their territory to begin with.
Not to mention all the international backlash against Russia. And how it would affect the lives of civilians there.
The rebels have no reason to demand annexation by Russia. The land is Ukrainian territory, if they want Russia's support so much, it would be easier for them to just move there.

His logic is literally, if Ukraine just bends over and accepts Putin's illegal dick then the fighting will stop.
Which is true, but its 2014 and countries shouldn't have to give up their land just because the big bully next door says so,.

What the hell makes you think the east would have an insurgency against the Russians? lol, some nationalist sleeper cells from the west, maybe.
Also, it's legitimate Ukrainian territory, but the government isn't legitimate. Half of Ukraine considers it so, and it's sooner their territory than belonging to some coup government that toppled their elected leader, refused their demands, and presided over the destruction of the two major eastern parties. .
If they want to secede from a failed state that hates their blood, more power to them.

This is a fine example of appeasement- and it's been tried before with not so great results....
Say Ukraine does just bend over- what is next on Russia's wish list?

Just let them take over everything that way no one would fight again peace forever all hail Putin
I think the passenger plane being the one that went down was an accident, but the act that brought it down wasn't
Basically, the separatists shot a missile at the plane thinking it was a military one. Maybe the buk detected it as a passenger one, but maybe they thought it was BS and really wanted to shoot one down. So they did. Now they have to be held accountable for the 300 some odd deaths resulting from it.
One question, the civ planes don't have a radar and tells them if a missile is following them or is that only the movies?

I didn't even know that was in the movies.
