I seriously doubt that you can imagine or sympathize with the sentiments that having your small little community changed forever by one of the deadliest shootings in this nation's history creates.
I can, demolishing the house is pointless. Achieves nothing. The school is one thing, but the house? Unless he murdered someone in it or committed suicide in it I really don't see the point in destroying it, how will it make anyone feel better? How many people even knew he lived there anyways? I never understood the point of destroying houses just because they belonged to someone who did terrible things outside of them.
It's vaguely understandable, but still a waste.
Honestly that's fucking stupid Its a fucking house, not a relic of anything By their logic they should demolish the fucking school then
I thought they did

Someone shoots up a bunch of kids and the answer is to tear down the persons home? Why not...oh I don't know, restrict guns? Because last I checked, there was no mention of the house being responsible for the shooting.
as a lifelong resident of ct this thread is interesting every time 9/11 gets posted dozens of folk come out of the woodwork saying "forget about it sheesh" and crack awful jokes, and that's from a tragedy that occurred in an incredibly massive city. newtown has a population of under 30k. i get the sense that a lot of people on this forum don't really thoroughly understand what it's like to live in a state that's so small. my hometown has 10k. these sort of events dramatically impact a community. life is not cheap in Connecticut or in any place that is a mix of suburban and rural life. each death affects everyone in communities like this, and this is something that has shocked my home state so completely that you feel the reverberations throughout the entire state. it became a political issue for the rest of the country, but for ct, it's a profoundly emotional one. it's an effort by the community to move past the tragedy that occured, to reduce the chance of any sort of idolization of the shooter (something which many users on this forum constantly talk about by way of posting that video of the psychologist saying don't reveal shooter names), and to simply group together and engage in the healing process. the legacy of sandy hook is meant to be one of solemn contemplation.
