I've been on Facepunch longer than the Xbox 360 has been around. Woah.
I probably won't buy the new xbox.... my PC is for games and my Wii U is for party times and netflix

Gentlemunz. I believe we are about to enter a golden age of gaming.
In this golden age, Steam will become dominant and the Steambox will be the answer to consoles.
If this is true, then MS doesn't really know shit about their own customers, future proof that the gaming industry is getting lead by fucking morons.
Well I'm not buying a new XBOX then.
This is it. Sony is also rumored to have implemented a similar system that even works offline. Tying discs to consoles with RFID chips and shit.
With the Wii U being an underpowered console with no games, I have no place to return to but to PC gaming. (Actually, I never left :smile: )

Sony was the first to throw the no second hand game idea around.
The new consoles wont require a constant internet connection, Sony and Microsoft are greedy but they're not stupid. The next gen consoles will include all the features of the current systems, except instead of being stapled on 3 years after release they'll be an integrated part of the system. They'll be designed so that people who don't play online get the minimum functonality (play games movies and music, nothing else). Everything else will be available for online players with Gold/PS+ members getting extra benefits.
Must we have this constant fear mongering whenever the new consoles are mentioned? It's the third party developers that actively try to screw consumers.
I hope this isn't true, i can imagine them putting up the prices of games to £50+ because you'll be forced to pay the full price or just not play it.
I don't see why you guys complain about not being able to buy used games when you also cannot buy used games on PC. It's the same thing. I personally don't have a problem with it, as I hate buying games used. Then again, I really only use my console for stuff that'd never work on PC like Rock Band or 4 player split screen gaming.

SCEA's president had this to say on the matter, though:
"for the record, I'm totally opposed to blocking used games. I think it's great for the consumer that they can buy those. We haver a customer that buys our console late in the cycle, pays less, is looking for value priced games, and I think it would be anti-consumer for us to do that."
They're too fond of their rivers of cash to do something like this.

They patented it, but that doesn't mean they'll do it. They might have that patent for other reasons

To be honest let's assume that this is true even without sources. What about the whole thing seems anathema to most of their customers.
a) games require an internet activation (standard on other plaforms (looking at you PC) since ages)
b) secondary resale market is dead due to this - again standard on the pc since ages
c) improved kinect - considering they're pushing for more adoption of it makes sense
Even if they were planning all of this, the really nasty PR always on got makes me think that the only thing required will be an online activation.
Asian and american market only or what? Have fun with the EU Microsoft.
Since pc already has this I'm sticking pc because its upgradeable and the games fit my personal pereferance

"used" games also work on different pcs when reinstalled.
If this turns out to be official, then I'm a calling my AC-130 down on Microsoft HQ

Okay. This statement kind of pisses me off. If Steam becomes more dominant than it is already, they'll have a fucking monopoly. And you know what it -can-, NOT WILL, do? It can turn around and become a massive douche. And there's nothing you'll be able to do about it.
I do really like Valve and Steam, please don't get me wrong here, I just find the concept of everything being in one company's hands a bit scary, and the fact that you can't back out if they have a change of heart.
