hah, I built a PC last year that would murder this thing for $1300
But this is a laptop...
Still specs are dissapointing.
1800 dollars for an i5, 8 gigs of ram, and a 256 ssd. Right.
Now i remember why I dont buy apple computers.
At that price I could buy a fucking mint gaming laptop, and still have 600 dollars for hookers and food....

Breaking News: Dedicated desktop PC faster than Notebook laptop
But this is a laptop...

And it's by apple, so you can't even upgrade it... so...
Well, someone have to do the move to Type C without adapters. Frankly, these type of comments were common when they ditched serial connectors in favor of USB.
It's not the problem with moving forward, but the IPhone 7 was released less than 2 months ago and they haven't prepared it for these laptops that were coming next. It's just stupid and inconvenient for the users. And they always pride themselves with the ease of use and connectivity of their devices. And they also kept the headphone jack on their new laptops. It's all just a mess.

Don't strawman, it costs a ridiculous amount too much
Still BGA cpus ?
$1500 and you get a 2.0ghz processor? The fuck? Is it 2005?
It probably turbo's to 2.5 Ghz. Still, you would expect to get an i7 for that kind of money.
more evidence of Cook pushing style over substance, annoying how every product in their lineup is turning into a gimmicky toy
sooooooo, why not choose an razer blade stealth instead for cheaper?
You could get an incredible desktop computer with 1,800 dollars, coolant system and case included
sooooooo, why not choose an razer blade stealth instead for cheaper?
it looks tacky, won't be as well built and, for me, the kicker, it doesn't run os x?
it looks tacky, won't be as well built and, for me, the kicker, it doesn't run os x?
1.) Taste
2.) Debatable and depends on the laptop
3.) That's a bonus, OSX is trash
it looks tacky, won't be as well built and, for me, the kicker, it doesn't run os x?
hackintosh?
On the tacky side, it depends if you like brushed aluminum or black aluminium. Apple does have good build quality but so does razer.
Could get a surface book for that price which is both a laptop and a tablet
it looks tacky, won't be as well built and, for me, the kicker, it doesn't run os x?
Any Intel machine can run OS X. Just because Apple's EULA insists the device has to have their insipid logo on it to do so doesn't mean you can't just do it anyway.
I'll just wait for them to make a keyboard with the Touch Bar on it, since that's the only interesting thing about this laptop
This isn't even the same thing
Usb type a is 20 years old and has a massively better successor. It needs to go
Yeah, Apple is sending a clear message that it needs to go, so they released a phone using it just last month :downs:
I mean, would one USB 3.0 Type A port be too much to ask? Is it really so convenient to use adapters?
Could get a surface book for that price which is both a laptop and a tablet
Also lasts longer.
Hilarious, I was contemplating buying a quad core i5 laptop for over half the price. Even my shitty one from 5 years ago (and cost 1/10th of the price) has the same, if not better specs.

I sincerely doubt that.

I mean what's really the difference between my Dual Core i5 2.0ghz Lynnfield laptop and this Dual Core i5 2.0ghz Skylake processor? Nothing really.
If they threw in a 1TB hdd, 16gb RAM, 3.0 usb ports, and a good mobile GPU, then the price would be fairly just. But christ, 2GHz? Fuck that. Guess it's gotta be ~unique~ and ~innovative~

i use my laptop for work 4 hours+ a day, it's a tool for me. i can't afford downtime from hacking it together to run the software i want it to.

Could they please not throw in a 1tb HDD? Those PCIe SSD's are fast as fuck.
Hey, at least they've moved to USB-C
Now if only they could've done the same thing for the iPhone so there's standardisation between all their products.

Fuck HHDs in these machines. I've been using a 2015 Macbook (a mere 13" display though...) since I started my job. Without the SSD these things would be crawling.
But there really isn't much reason to skimp out on the RAM other than it's an easy upsell if you only offer 8GB standard. The Intel onboards aren't end of the world terrible GPUs, but most people with these aren't gaming so why bother?
But please. For the love of GOD move to USB-C 3.0 already Apple. Your proprietary shit is killing me.

But it is USB-C 3.1?
What the fuck is with the megaherz myth you people keep spouting.
Even on the cheapest model, with 2 ghz.
You guys realize it boosts up to 3.1 under load right? On a laptop that's not a bad clock. And there's also the fact that you can't deem how fast something is just by GHz.
Do hope this succeeds though. Touch bar will probably be a much better alternative than a touch screen, because laptop touch screens are garbage because they lack usability due to distance and your keyboard, and you also get your nice screen covered in fingerprints. And USB-C needs to be everywhere, it's far better than old USB ports. It's respectable to be willing to go through the pains to push the standard through, if left to its own devices, the market will sit on old standards pretty much until they're completely untenable.

The desktops/ laptops might have it. But not their phones.
Unification for the nation.
