which literally means your son is a fag, do you think the family is gonna think any different?
@xen:
that's why they're still growing, right?
Still growing? What?
You know WBC is like, 120 people, if that, and almost all are either related to Fred Phelps or married in. It's not like they're getting mass converts to their group.
And you forgot one important thing about the whole inciting hatred. WBC has never (physically) hurt someone, and none of their followers have. If through their rhetoric someone was spurned to kill a gay, then the argument is valid, but as it is it's just a vile expression of opinion.
no. they protest on public property. if they were on private property they would have been arrested by now.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-08-30-1Afuneralprotests_CV_N.htm
Washington lawyer Walter Dellinger, representing Senate leaders, tells the high court that free speech on public issues "does not encompass insults and verbal abuse intended to invade a private memorial ceremony and injure its participants."
He says protesters can take a stand in virtually any public place, but they cannot "hijack (a family's) private funeral as a vehicle for expression of their own hate."
you're forgetting you can abuse it because there isn't much line on how far away a private funeral can be, and still have the same effect.
We had a law saying they can protest an hour before or after the funeral was over, but they just had to have it when there was grieving family members were in it, but you guys went 'lol fascism'
christ, you guys are sociopaths

they're still converting, so it fits into the definition, sir.
and it's called emotional distress, it's legal.

Except that Federal Appeals Court ruled in favor of the WBC
you're infringing on the rights of the grievers, you're forgetting Westboro protesters do it in private funerals too, but they can't do anything because you extreme libertines always stand up for them. where's our right to fight back?
Can you specifically name what right they're infringing on or what law they're breaking?
And you have a right to counter-protest and voice your opinions too, but violence is only acceptable in self-defense.
I'd rather not get punched during it, but I will be, because that's how the world works, and I lack common sense.
Except that it's a relatively common occurrence for a person to go to a convention they disagree with, protest, and then return home uninjured.
And that's how it should be.
yeah, it can certainly proceed while a priest or someone providing an eulogy is outheard by protests saying his son is a fag, when you yell 'FIRE' over a theater, people tend to look around and know you're bullshitting.
Uh, I don't know about you, but my local move theater has multiple rooms.
When someone yells fire do you go around the building looking for it? Or do you follow safety procedures and exit the building like you're suppose to.
You're not even providing a logical argument.
humans are volatile and protective, and saying it's offspring will burn in an eternal hellfire usually leads them punching you or developing a riot
Except when you yell fire in a movie theater without an actual fire, you're telling an outright lie.
When you're telling someone that their son will burn in Hell you're giving an opinion.

Emotional distress is a tort law idea, not a criminal law. You can sue for emotional distress, you can't be arrested for it. And I don't see how they're "hijacking" it, it's not like they're going into the funeral and yelling at people, it's all a protest outside of it.
Also, lol @ sociopaths. That would be the people calling for burning WBC alive, not the people supporting 1st amendment rights.
you're allowing people to incite hatred/prejudice and even standing up for them
What the fuck are you talking about?
No one here is supporting the WBC.
We're supporting 1st Amendment rights.
and billiam, did you know, it's your right to break into someone's house, get injured, and sue?

Except that Federal Appeals Court ruled in favor of the WBC
federal appeals court is right 100% of time and we have to agree with it.
ok
Can you specifically name what right they're infringing on or what law they're breaking?
emotional distress and lacking common sense
And you have a right to counter-protest and voice your opinions too, but violence is only acceptable in self-defense.
counter-protesting in a funeral and having an arguement during it
ahh, how magical would that be

except a tea partier isn't gonna punch a liberal for expressing his opinion on republican policies
i'm pretty sure one of the many african americans you punch you for expressing his opinion that you should be lynched and promoting hateful agenda against his people.
common sense
Uh, I don't know about you, but my local move theater has multiple rooms.

wtf, you guys have multiple room just go watch one screen? weird ass place you live.
and people rather look out the entrance for smoke etc and wait for more people to confirm the fire rather than burning 10 dollars, you know why
common sense
Except when you yell fire in a movie theater without an actual fire, you're telling an outright lie.
maybe your opinion of a fire is a cigarette smoke
oh shit, loophole, im using this now.
When you're telling someone that their son will burn in Hell you're giving an opinion.
and trying to incite violence on the guy because that makes them wanna punch you so badly.

lol yes you are, the law of having a funeral an hour before and after the funeral was perfect because both side would win.
wbc can still protest the soldiers will burn in hell while the family doesn't have to listen to the ramble
instead, you'd rather support WBC at every turn
im talking the truth, im winning this argument.
emotional distress and lacking common sense
.
Ok because you can't fucking read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentional_infliction_of_emotional_distress
Do you see how it says Tort claim? Tort is a fucking civil charge, there's no law about "inflicting emotional distress" and it's absurd that you would think so since it's such a subjective idea.
emotional distress and lacking common sense
are you fucking serious? those aren't illegal
are you fucking serious? those aren't illegal
obviously it's against the law to not have common sense.
federal appeals court is right 100% of time and we have to agree with it.
ok
Walter Dellinger is right 100% of the time and we have to agree with everything he says.
ok
emotional distress and lacking common sense
Except emotional doesn't even deserve to be mentioned, this is an argument about law and rights.
counter-protesting in a funeral and having an arguement during it
ahh, how magical would that be
Well, you have your right if you please.
except a tea partier isn't gonna punch a liberal for expressing his opinion on republican policies

common sense
Stop being stupid, movie theaters have multiple rooms.
And your prediction of people's reactions are based on what now?
maybe your opinion of a fire is a cigarette smoke
oh shit, loophole, im using this now.
Use that argument in a Court of Law.
I dare you, you will get your ass handed to you by the prosecutors.
Firstly, because no one will believe you took cigarette smoke as a serious threat.
Secondly, because even if they did believe you, your misjudgment would still land your ass in jail.
and trying to incite violence on the guy because that makes them wanna punch you so badly.
Uh no, you're not trying to incite violence.
You're giving an opinion, by your dumb-ass logic opinions should be banned.
I think that this funeral should be outlawed because it could incite potential violence from the WBC. EVERYTHING SHOULD BE OUTLAWED BECAUSE EVERYTHING HAS THE POTENTIAL TO INCITE VIOLENCE!
[editline]12:20AM[/editline]
lol yes you are, the law of having a funeral an hour before and after the funeral was perfect because both side would win.
Obviously both sides weren't satisfied.
If one of them took this to a court of law.
wbc can still protest the soldiers will burn in hell while the family doesn't have to listen to the ramble
instead, you'd rather support WBC at every turn
I just said I wasn't, what more do you want from me?
im talking the truth, im winning this argument.
Whether you're winning this argument and whether you're right are two different things.
And your argument is dumb so you aren't really winning it.
obviously it's against the law to not have common sense.
90% of the US including me would be in jail then.
90% of the US including me would be in jail then.
This funeral would've probably been held in jail.
I don't understand why they don't just leave the US for good since they hate it so much, Oh that's right they're are not that many Countries like the US that let you say shit like this.
:irony:
Is anyone else REALLY sick of seeing the WBC ruin more people's lives? Seriously, who the fuck thought this would be "ok."? D:
So in your opinion, a group of people who does absolutely nothing to benefit humanity in any way and spends every second of their life trying to make other people's lives worse deserves to remain alive? In my opinion it's a waste of shelter, water and food to have them remain alive. The world would be better if they were dead.
What is this, Nazi Germany? "Elderly people are useless to society, let's kill them all."
bloodthirsty teenagers itt who want to kill people they don't like and take away their rights.
even a moderator, what the fuck is wrong with you all.
Bloodthirsty? Hardly. Pepperballs sting for a while, but that is about the end of it.
Had one of them actually been seriously hurt, it would have just been like a martyr situation. And, for all their faults, they don't desire to die or be permanently hurt. Legally speaking or just plain morally speaking. If the guy responsible is caught, he should serve time for the assault.
It doesn't mean that I wouldn't like them to feel massive discomfort for a brief period of time.
Funerals aren't for the dead. They are for the families. They have done nothing wrong and nothing to deserve having that funeral ruined by those homophobic assholes.
Not to mention Westboro is brainwashing the poor kids of their members into being hate machines just like they are. That is beyond fucked up and is probably the worst thing they have done to date.
"It's inappropriate," he said. "It's a funeral service."
Oh really? They are there protesting and picketing a a family funeral and they're calling the pepper spray inappropriate? These people are dumb as fucking rocks...
idea of the day for removing westboro baptist funural protestor's : 3 van's with sunroof's, 3 paintball ammo only minigun's, drive slowly and fire away.... modern warfare style.
when we spray them with lots of colorful paintball's, they be very gay when their pants and shirts look rainbow-ish... muhahahaha!
This man is my hero. Praise the lord and pass the ammunition, let's go hunt some funeral crashers.
People like these westboros make me sick.

it is only a matter of time before something worse happens to them.
