There are a dozen other explanations, and you just happen to post the most racist one? That's a pretty racist thing to do.
Like I said, I haven't "picked" anything, but I'm not going to deny that there are parts of the race/ethnic explanation that I haven't seen adequately explained from a social/nature position.
I'd be interested to know if China has anything like "at-risk" status, because stereotype threat is a very real thing that can cause people in certain situations to perform worse.
Like I said, I haven't "picked" anything, but I'm not going to deny that there are parts of the race/ethnic explanation that I haven't seen adequately explained from a social/nature position.
The problem is that there is no way a race/ethnic explanation can ever be correct. There could possibly be a genetic explanation but saying it would be a race/ethnic explanation would by definition racist. For example, the idea that Jewish people are more likely to get Tay-Sachs disease because they are Jewish would be racist. This is because the statement is saying that being Jewish is the reason for the disease. However saying that Jewish people are more likely to get Tay-Sachs disease because of a genetic mutation that occurred within a Jewish community would not be racist, because it isn't putting the cause as being Jewish. Its a subtle but important difference.
Long story short, anyone can succeed if they try.
No, that is not true at all in our society. If it was true we would have almost no poverty.
That's not racist or anything.
Its not racist tho. Its well known that chinese people take education extremely seriously, as in "you study for 8 hours a day" seriously.
Its not racist tho. Its well known that chinese people take education extremely seriously, as in "you study for 8 hours a day" seriously.
The serious studying isn't working if they only achieve the levels of regular students in other countries.
It's racist to imply that it's because they're genetically superior and not that it's a cultural thing.
ethnicity implies that it's cultural. race would imply that it's genetic. generally speaking, and this isn't the most fair statement to make, but asian cultures tend to place a high value on education.
science becomes a mess when politics get involved. some dudes will think this is unquestionable evidence that intelligence is defined by race and some people will just dismiss this as questionable. probably even the people who carried out this study have their own opinions to reinforce.
I mean, I guess? I have no issue accepting that, I don't think that makes me a racist, since I'm not ever, in any way going to treat different ethnicities differently.
Do you have any science at all to confirm that particular races are genetically geared towards higher levels of intelligence than other races? If no; stop hypothesizing about something that you don't have the training or knowledge to properly hypothesize about.
Or the school system there is corrupt as fuck. [editline]6th February 2014[/editline] Hell, I found out after my ACT that the teachers at my high school had provided a list of equations to save in graphing calculators (that they were supposed to check)
Even if intelligence was influenced by race, the difference is marginal and shouldn't matter.
