What is the "vile shit" he's done? As far as I've been aware over the years I haven't seen anything more than him lashing out at people. Using vile to talk about relatively benign things is just diminishing the value of the word.
Well I mean if you're not gonna read the thread I don't see why I should read your posts.

I don't understand how the go-tos for bad Fish statements are the building-burn and choking ones. He shouted down someone who got molested and pressured him into advertising his molestor's work in penance for standing up in the first place. Later pictures surfaced of Phil and Wolf posing together in wedding pictures, revealing that even Wolf crashing the party was a lie. This is something he did. This cannot be walked back.
This thread sucks and you are all bitter nerds. Fez is a fine game, this product is a special edition obviously for people who would be interested in buying collectors items so of course it will go for a higher price. This is even post-release of the game so I don't know why anyone would still care if Fez was truly such a bad game.
this post confuses me because there is only one post before it that is vaguely negative about the game Fez. the others are clearly bitching about phil fish and not Fez

Not to mention Fez 2, which he cancelled because he's a big baby, then proceeded to get the development money and kept it. I think there's literally a twitter post where he says almost exactly what I said (except the big baby part, of course) Seriously, there are no reason to defend this human diarrhea.
Fez was shit anyway. I mean the game legitimately has QR codes in it, I don't really have to say anything else to prove my point so we'll just gloss over the fact that it was also a boring, repetitive, uninspired, gimmicky, slog of hipster vomit created by an abhorrently toxic, piss poor excuse of a human shit stain named Phil "compare your life to mine and then kill your self" Fish. QR codes. Pay $100 for that? Nah, I'd rather go to the bank, turn that into smaller notes, buy some curry and a few cups of coffee on the way home, you get where this is going..
Phil fish is a true asshole, but seriously I don't see how you can have such a bad view of the game. When I was visiting Poland, me and two friends who I shared a hotel room with had great fun "solving" Fez in the evenings, using a notebook and trying to figure out all the puzzles. We all found Fez to be a memorable and cool game. Neither of them were "gamers" or had heard of the game before. Oh, and I even went into this game with my only real knowledge being how much of a dick Phil is. It's not "uninspired", it has a pretty novel game mechanic and an awesome design direction. (it may have been used before, but it's not common) It's not repetitive (imo), it has lots of different puzzles with entirely different ways of solving each, and lots of different areas with different themes and design directions. The visuals are awesome, and the music is great too. Only "bad" thing about it is that you sort of have to dedicate yourself a bit to figure the game out. From your extreme views, I'm guessing you're the type that just straight up doesn't like indie games, or you're blindly, and with great bias, hating on a product because one of the authors is a dick. I know it's not fair that someone as toxic as Phil gets to be successful, but the man clearly has some mental issues. Fez would've been a more successful game if they had not allowed Phil to talk to anyone.
I bought Fez the day it came out on Xbox Live Arcade, not knowing who Fish was, after seeing the charming graphics for like two and a half years, every six to nine months, appearing in news. It was...okay. For the price I paid, I guess I can say I got my money's worth. I have certainly paid more and received less in the past. Taken in isolation, Fez is not an awful game, but it's also not the god-forged hot platinum shit Phil liked to talk and act like it was, as I found out months later as he began killing his own PR in public. And, before he started going full-on batshit and publicly allying himself with ZQ and that side of the debacle, I defended Fez on here on this basis; it's not actually awful. What I think hurt Phil in terms of how he handled Fez's release (never mind the five-year train wreck called his social media/etc. behaviour, just Fez) is that he started showing it off too soon. If Fez had launched a year after he showed off the first isometric-rotation mechanic in video, he would've been there just in time to ride the voxel wave into the mainstream. Instead, by the time Fez was out, Minecraft and the derivative clones based on it had stolen his graphical lunch and offered far greater replayability than his linear puzzle game. He revealed his hand early and then took too long to get to market, and then he was allowed to use Twitter long enough to make it clear to everyone that he's a petulant manchild. But I'd still buy that record if I was fuck-you rich.
Well I mean if you're not gonna read the thread I don't see why I should read your posts.
I have read the thread and this snarkiness is presumptuous and unwarranted. If you're going to be so dismissive and simultaneously get personal then why reply?
I can't find a cap of the incident I'm talking about without commentary slathered over it, but this should get the point across well enough. This is the first I've heard of this since I've avoided the gamergate and related drama from day 1. And maybe I didn't follow the chain of messages right but I didn't see a bit where he was specifically pressured into the advertisement bit though. Is this something just not mentioned in the image? I'd really need to read more to get a better scope of what went on. Regardless it's a shame that person backed down from elaborating on what happened to them.

If we're going to be critical about a work of art then "I mean the game legitimately has QR codes in it, I don't really have to say anything else to prove my point" and "the fact that it was also a boring, repetitive, uninspired, gimmicky, slog of hipster vomit" are worthless assertions that obviously don't any attempt towards criticism. It just speaks as wanting to attack the work based on their emotions towards its creator. I also want to suggest that people's attitude of dismissing a work of art as "hipster" doesn't actually mean anything. But damn is it an easy catch all for when someone can't form an actual opinion. Now I have no intention of making the faux pas of claiming someone hating all indie games for having an opinion on one or its creator. But the quotes above are just unconstructive hate of a similar caliber to some of what people have seen from Fish. I'm afraid of giving any credence to such garbage by replying but I'll do it anyways: If it was a critical analysis of the game that explained why QR codes don't work, that still does not extend beyond the context of that work. That assertion prevents any kind of ARG-like concept from being considered good. Boring is subjective and not valid criticism, repetitive would require puzzle design analysis (Check out Richard Terrell if anyone is interested in this), uninspired is generally not criticism and only can be when legitimately compared to other works, and gimmicky doesn't mean anything in this context. A gimmick is an actual term used in game design though, and is not a necessarily a bad thing because it's a foundation of design (especially puzzles). If we are going to be critical of art then let's actually make the attempt.
Hey Phil, how about you choke on it?
fish is indisputably the biggest sack of shit in the history of the game industry that said though, people cranked out some really fuckin nice music for his steaming log of a game i'd buy this if the money wasn't going to ol fiery phil
not even fucking close to being the biggest sack of shit. Are you joking?
not even fucking close to being the biggest sack of shit. Are you joking?
Who's worse?
idk the guy who pitched the idea of implementation of p2w microtransactions in battlefield heroes the powerpoint that was released to the public was really evil looking
Sort of different though, that's done in the best interests of the business. The stuff Phil says is deliberately offensive to everyone, it's meant to insult people.
fish is worse [editline]27th November 2015[/editline] i still wanna hear what nebudkadnezzer has to say
fish is an asshole but that other guy ruined a promising game with a business model
I just looked this up and watched his presentation. It can literally be summed up as "We weren't making enough money and our bosses at EA were losing their patience. We were all fearful for our jobs and families, so we ultimately decided to sell advantage despite really not wanting to and originally vowing not to." The dude even said that the interviews he gave before haunt him now due to him going back on their word. Their findings were clear. The players making the complaints didn't match their rhetoric to their actions, and those engaging in the forums (which triggered the negative press) were even less representative of the total playerbase. They found no negative impact towards the playerbase while converting more players into spenders. He concludes by drawing analogies to other, real world instances of paying for advantages being the accepted norm (golf, biking, racing). The advantages of paying for weapons was about a 10% increase in power across the board. So in the end they made a decision that marginally affected the game, did not at all affect the number of users, and allowed them to save their jobs. You pass a lot of judgement on this man for something so benign.
