Fuck off, dude. The kid was in a stressful situation; he was being threatened by unknown people for a sum of money he couldn't possibly pay. The photo wouldn't have to be much to drive someone who is potentially emotionally unstable (as many teenagers are) to do something rash. And, also, fuck off on your second point. "Welcome to reality" yeah no shit. We know it's reality. That doesn't make it less despicable. Drop the internet tough guy act, it just makes you look like a prick.
It's no internet tough guy act either, it's just how I view life and death, death is a normal thing, sure it's sad and can cause sorrow and what have you, but I just don't see why it's always such a big deal to total strangers that some person they've never met before dies and they have enough sympathy to actually defend the scenario. Like dude, people dying sucks, but I don't know this kid, I could give two fucks about whether he lives or dies along with most of the world. I'm not saying I enjoy death or what have you but, get over it, this isn't even national news worthy just petty people trying to get petty attention about something that has no effect on a meta scale. What matter to the individual does not matter to the whole generally. And again it's an opinion that I'm probably not conveying the best yet it's still mine to have.
lol this thread totally went to shit
A poor sod died because some absolute scum abused him and manipulated him until he was in a position that they could threaten to basically destroy his life as he knew it. I guess what I'm saying is why does dying and death have to be this big scary thing, it's the one thing we all have to deal with, shouldn't it be associated with peace rather than fear? this kid seemed to think it was better to die than have some pic floating around about him? just a different view is all friends, no need to get upset and all [editline]17th June 2015[/editline]
me because MY personal beliefs are that suicides much like this one are tragedies just as any other, and we as a society should work to help people who feel much like this kid did if you're going to argue "but it's my opinion to hold" I can do the same
Personal beliefs are personal, why would you apply something personal to another person? and yea but if I'm just going to be yelled at and called dumb, that doesn't progress anything does it?
Gee idk maybe because fear of death is something that is hardwired into the brains of the vast majority of human beings and so we naturally associate death with sorrow as well?
Of course we're hard wired to fear death, we're also hardwired to do a lot of things that civilization and society conflicts with, what's your point? I never said I don't fear death, especially my own, it just seems like those publicly speaking about such acts as this are only doing it for attention, they don't truly care for this individual, how could they? They don't have any physical connection with them. Of course you could argue well "what if it was my family member or friend etc etc" But it's not, I guess it's hard for me to have a personal connection with someone's death whom I've never known. I'm sure I'm making many internet faux pas right now but what can ya do. [editline]17th June 2015[/editline]
something beautiful already has happened: he will never have to read your crap posts
See! that's the spirit. By the way I just really enjoy playing devil's advocate over a multi cultural crowd, it produces interesting results, I by no means dislike the human race or have any ideas of causing harm or dismay to the citizens of this planet, I just find it interesting certain ways in which we see and interpret the world around us and what goes on within it. And death is a hot subject.
If you cannot empathize with people you do not know you may have empathy problems. As a person who was afflicted by depression and has seen a dear friend be hospitalized for a suicide attempt, I can easily sympathize with this kid and his struggle.
It's not that I can't sympathize, I can just also speak about it without any emotional attachment. like how they say tragedy plus time equals comedy. That is my way of coping with emotional types of things, make some humor come from it, I dislike anything down or negative, so I seem to just ignore the aspect of a situation that makes me feel bad or upset. I'm sure there's something wrong but eh, I'm surviving.

Alright I guess I'm done trying to get you guys to think a little differently, but no I think I'll stay, who are you to declare who should be on a forum or not, like I'm some murderer or child rapist, I just took a jab at popular thought.
threads about teenagers killing themselves aren't the place to plant social experiments like how fucking blind are you to not be able to see that
threads about teenagers killing themselves aren't the place to plant social experiments like how fucking blind are you to not be able to see that
One without any bias might argue it's the perfect place for a social experiment. You guys are attacking me as if it's me who thinks a certain way, and it's really interesting actually! What else can you say in a thread about a teenage suicide other than some sort of mourning or peaceful thought sending, if discussing death isn't necessary, than why not? someone did die after all. So is there anyway to get a trace on these guys? I mean some phone records or something?

Begone troll!
I'm not sure how these people expected a 17 year old to amass that much currency in 2 days. Regardless, hopefully this will remind others of the danger of sending nude photos online. The moment you do it, you are giving someone pretty serious power over you (if you care about people seeing you in compromising positions, that is). Even if you know the person you're talking to and love them dearly, you can never garuntee it will remain that way forever.
This happened to a friend of mine. They captured footage from his webcam during an...intimate moment, and asked for a few hundred pounds or they would send it to his friends list. He didn't pay, and they didn't send it thankfully for whatever reason. It's sad that this kid wasn't as lucky :(
Probably been said before, but I'll say it again, this story is tragic but silly in a sad and morbid sense. It was some form of pornographic image and it sounds like he was alone in said image, at that. Is this really a cause for such an extreme reaction? My attitude, even when I was 17 (and I'm turning 19 next month) is fuck those assholes. I'd have ignored it. People have seen me naked before. I have seen people naked before. Is being shown off to a few friends really a cause for alarm? Given the nature of the situation, I can't imagine it'd have had heavy backlash regardless. Most kids would have laughed at this, joked a bit, or outright ignored it as spam/gross shit they don't want in their inbox. Given that he was blackmailed and I don't think he'd have had much to worry about. Now, had it been another person in the photo(s), that's a different story and I can see the discomfort, but it's still not exactly suicide news. This stuff happens daily, I can assure you. It's a shame and I wish I, or someone, had gotten the chance to talk with him and give him some peace of mind about it all.
i'm just going to chime in and say this is an incredibly religious catholic neighborhood. take from that what you will because i'm not going to bother explaining it right now [editline]18th June 2015[/editline] and in what country do teenagers regularly see each other naked and not ridicule each other over intimate photos? certainly not this one.
Fair enough on the religious community bit. In the US, we deal with locker rooms in high school, primarily in sports. Add that onto public locker rooms in general, party shenanigans, and college itself, and nudity is fairly common. I can't speak on behalf of the ridicule bit, as I never endured serious harassment and with the friends and strangers, it was more playful jousting. I don't think this kid would have been seriously harassed just due to the shitty situation surrounding it.
i know from first hand that he probably would have.
i know from first hand that he would have.
Simply a shame then that his parents didn't offer to withdraw him from school or something of the sort. It could have been helped had they shown more attention to the subject. IE: Not leaving him home, unattended, during this time of panic. Speaking with him about options to move on from this. Etc.
well, hindsight is 20/20. i don't doubt that some involved factor could have made the situation better but i'm sure that in the parents eyes at the time they were doing nothing wrong now they've got all the time in the world to think back to it, sadly.
And that is why any kind of personal information doesn't belong anywhere close to the internet.
Everyone's seen my dick because I get naked at parties. Try me you Nigerian fucks!
If I got sent nude pics of a friend because he didn't want to pay off some scammers, I wouldn't even be mad at the guy or look at him any different or anything like that, I just wish that the kid realized that too. He was only a year off from entering college anyway so he could have started fresh then even if it did...
