I don't mind pirating as long as it doesn't fuck over small companies like GSC, I mean their games only cost about £4 now it's not exactly like they're ripping us off.
The game was pirated because it was a pretty buggy mess. It's like ArmA2. We're a cult of people who love the games, along with plenty of other people as well, but to most people, the game looks pretty bad but may have some value. STALKER is an gained taste, and most people who pirate it end up loving it, and end up buying it.
Shame that pirates kill gaming companies like this. It's the same pirates that have driven most game makers onto consoles.
Pirates haven't killed anything. Studies have shown that pirates are the most active consumers.
Developers are killing games.
I have the whole series in physical copies. Literally the only game series I've bought all the way through physically. Hope there is enough backlash for them to think twice.
I think the reason they're doing this is because pirating is so prominent in Russia so they're reacting like this which isn't a smart move at all.
Remember how home taping killed the music industry guys
And then later on VCRs killed movies
Personally, most companies that started developing for the PC and then switched to console games now make very mediocre modern warfare FPS shooters.
If GSC will fuck up at STALKER 2 they can always revert back to their old dream of making the best RTS ever.
I doubt we'll ever see another good RTS ever again.
Great we hardly know anything about stalker 2 yet we already know it will have a stupid stupid shitty ass DRM
I seriously don't care that much for always on DRM, as stupid as it is though. But this sounds fucking retarded! Wasn't the sole reason STALKER was so successful is because of the mods it had. Won't this completely shut down any potential modding opportunities for this game?
This will be cracked fairly quickly, fortunately.
What's that?
Restrictive DRM forces people to use the inevitably cracked version and not actually buy the game?
Nah that'd make too much sense

I know, what with pirates stealing all those imaginable and hypothetical and possible funds!
...oh wait
What. The. FUCK.
Not my STALKER games, why DRM, why.
The most effective DRM is not to have any DRM. How many people would actually pay to be limited like this when they can just obtain the fully working version of the game at no cost to them.
In theory DRM should make it crackers hard enough to at least survive the first weeks and months(when they get the most sales).
We do know it doesn't work that way (only in rare cases it works decently).
Deuse Ex HR was already cracked in the same week as the official release :v:
Well I wont be buying it then. My internet has a tendency to randomly drop due to me being in the middle of bumfuck nowhere.
I play singleplayer games during those times. Fuck DRM.
Dunno if anyone mentioned it yet, but DRM is going to be inevitably cracked and publishers know that. It's just a question of making the cracking process take long enough to get enough sales to make the game successful anyway.
That being said, funny thread. When any other game has always-on DRM people e-riot. When Stalker has always on DRM, "WHO DOESN'T HAVE 100% RELIABLE INTERNET THESE DAYS LOLE!".
It'll be cracked same as any other.
I don't know why they still bother.

Any Ubisoft game published on PC after Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

They don't really have the popularity to pull it off.
Someone ddos's their servers > Everyone gets cracked copy because it's the only one that works.
Their idea sucks.
Talk about immersion breaking when a character's lines won't load because the WLAN crapped out.
I'm going to their company and finding the person who decided to do this.
I'm gonna kick him in the nuts.

Stalker is awesome...who actually pirates the game?
I want to install a cock in her vagina.
Stalker is awesome...who actually pirates the game?
Probably people who wanted to see how buggy it was before playing it.

I agree the DRM is stupid but if someone has played the other stalker games...especially Clear Skies, you should know that even though Stalker has tons of bugs it's fun as fuck.
