What does this mean for the modders ? The mods are as crucial to STALKER as they are to Valve games imo , the community for them is awesome and they really kept things going what a stupid fucking way to fuck over a good game series. I expect them to come down with a rampant case of back-pedalling on this issue.
I'll still buy it, I don't really see the big issue here.
How about I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY OFFLINE ? It happens that you just don't have an Internet connection and still want to play the game, or just happen to have two peoples using the same account, one of which in off-line mode (my case with my brother), or just simply want to actually own the game and its content. First you own a game and have to unlock it via simple codes (which is good), then you own the right to possess ONE copy of the game and only one of it without the right of other people playing it at the same time (which is already questionable), then you basically buy the right to play a game you don't even have.

why not make Stalker online then ?
why not make Stalker online then ?
Stalker does have online doesn't it?
I'll still buy it, I don't really see the big issue here.
It's exactly this attitude that encourages developers to fuck over the consumer as much as humanly possible all in the name of protecting against piracy.
This really sucks. I've been waiting for a long time for STALKER 2 news since we barely have any info and I really love the games, and the first thing GSC decides to tell us is that there's an always on DRM? Go fuck yourselves GSC, I bought all your games, even clear sky which is still a buggy POS that had no support, I don't deserve this and neither do any other fans that have supported you over the years.
-nope
They just lost a sale. It's like they want me to break the law.
I have a feeling all this will be is only a few bytes exchanged that authorizes you to activate the conversation and proceed. Nothing like some huge multi-megabyte files being downloaded that will kill your bandwidth. [editline]00[/editline] Either way, still won't stop me from buying.
God fucking dammit mother fucker I'm still on dial up. I hate dial up, overtly invasive DRM, and stupid shit like this. What encouraged growth with the original Stalker community was it's ease to mod without real proper mod tools for the longest time, then when they did release the tools the mods just got better due to their stance on modder rights. When Clear Sky came out it pissed a good amount of people off because of the shitty DRM on it, which I found a crack to just to play it without a good deal of lag. Now THIS?
Well shit, here I was praising GSC and now this.

NOOOOOOOO how will I live If I don't have an internet connection, go have some fun doing something else not playing vidya. Hell go chill with friends or just go outside. Oh no, I can find other ways to have fun [editline]8th October 2011[/editline]
Ok, this is pretty fucking retarded. Especially with more and more ISPs introducing download limits
Chances are it is going to send like 1~2kb/s so in an hour you'll send 360kb if you play 40hrs you will onl have sent 14.4MB
Oh no, I have to play one of the other 50 games I own.... Oh no, I can find other ways to have fun
I have other things to do than games and I have lots of other games to play, it doesn't excuse them from making a harsh DRM that requires constant internet connection. Then again, considering it only loads text and quests, maybe its not DRM at all and you're all jumping onto shit as its probably just going to be randomly generated quests. Kind of like Halo Reach's Weekly/Daily challenges that are loaded from internet.
And if you have internet most of the time then who cares, seriously when is the last time you had internet go down for a lengthy about of time

I have plenty of other stuff to do (Between school and work, I'm generally occupied for about 60-70 hours a week on those). I also have friends I hang out with, movies I go see, and artwork I create. But all of that is irrelevant. Just because I -can- go do something else doesn't justify a terrible DRM policy. What about the people who DON'T have a solid internet connection. Should they be punished for absolutely no valid reason?
And if you have internet most of the time then who cares, seriously when is the last time you had internet go down for a lengthy about of time
I care for the sake of other people, not really myself. Its going to be bullshit if my internet gos down (which it does, like a night ago for the whole night). But its going to be more bullshit for those who have bad internet or almost none at all.

Most peoples Internet has a decent amount of up time, I really do not see the big deal, seriously when is the last time your internet was down for a lengthy amount of time and it was not due to a power outage
Oh no, I have to play one of the other 50 games I own.... NOOOOOOOO how will I live
So, say your phone line dies, and you're without the internet for a week or two. You're completely fine with being unable to play a game that you've spent money on?
Why because I don't constrain myself to just video games? Oh no, I can find other ways to have fun
God forbid people have fun in the way they choose to, right? How dare they, I mean, such an idea is unheard of!
Chances are it is going to send like 1~2kb/s so in an hour you'll send 360kb if you play 40hrs you will onl have sent 14.4MB
It's going to be streaming content as required, and I'd doubt it'll actually be storing it after you finish your session, so 1-2kb/s in an hour would not be anywhere near capable enough to deliver the content. I'm guessing it'd be a little more than OnLive, since instead of streaming the video down / input up, it's actually downloading the files
I care for the sake of other people, not really myself. Its going to be bullshit if my internet gos down (which it does, like a night ago for the whole night). They can call the cable company up and complain or use a phone line, shit phone lines rarely go down.
So, say your phone line dies, and you're without the internet for a week or two. You're completely fine with being unable to play a game that you've spent money on?
Seeing how I own it indefinitely 2 weeks isn't that long compared to the time I own it, I'll just play it another day.
God forbid people have fun in the way they choose to, right? How dare they, I mean, such an idea is unheard of!
I enjoy video games too, but if it is that big of an issue that one out of X number of games you have is unavailable you should look into broadening your horizon. [editline]8th October 2011[/editline]
Just because its in their TOS doesn't mean its okay.
If you hit "I have read the ToS and I agree" then apparently it is to you!
Have fun getting no one to buy your game, assholes! This is why DRM is fucking retarded. Steam is the farthest extent you should go.
[editline]8th October 2011[/editline] If you hit "I have read the ToS and I agree" then apparently it is to you!
You're implying that I am even buying this game, (and if I did, its to support them doesn't mean I agree with this).
You're implying that I am even buying this game, (and if I did, its to support them doesn't mean I agree with this).
Hence the "IF", I wasn't saying you do, I am saying IF you were to agree to said terms of service then you therefore accept the DRM and the Copyrights that the developers put into the game. Thus you agree with the DRM, you may not LIKE it but you agree to the use of it.

Thus it really isn't relevant to mention.
If you hit "I have read the ToS and I agree" then apparently it is to you!
ToS agreements are almost never considered legally binding because you cannot read them until after the purchase of the product has already been made, and you did not pay Company X for a right to read a contract, but for software. There's also the fact that many of them simply contain unenforceable bullshit. They're there to look pretty, but they mean nothing these days except in extremely rare instances.
It's like they want people to crack and pirate it. It is pretty much shouting it out to people.

So yes you really can read the ToS before you buy it and yes they really do have legal binding power, they don't just make these things just to make them. Granted msot of the times you hear about them are in extreme cases because those are the only times it will catch the media or someones eye and blabber it. But there are plenty of time people do violate the ToS and get prosecuted.
