• "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" races up the charts after Margaret Thatcher's death

Most of the people that hate Thatcher weren't around when she was and have no fucking clue about her or what she did other than what they have been told. I can't pass judgment because I'm only young myself, but it seems like just another excuse to get drunk.
Except those industries were subsidized and running at a loss. What the hell else could have been done?
Foosnin the US has been subsidizes for far longer, we dont get rid of because itd increase unemployment
I wonder how many of them were adults during her terms or is simply an angsty teenager.
My parents bought the single because, y'know, they are old enough to remember her, I can understand why from what they've told me. Thing is that I'm not, I wasn't around at the time, I have no reasons to celebrate her death.
People'll look for any reason to celebrate.
i've always imagined the inevitable evolution of the brit to be the Ork from Warhammer 40k, spacefaring ginormous pub crawlers/football hooligans who do nothing but club the shit out of everything and anything that moves (including their own)
Wow... that's... that's actually unbelievably racist.
Foosnin the US has been subsidizes for far longer, we dont get rid of because itd increase unemployment
Which then declines after things stabilize. All you are doing is producing less for more.
I always saw thatcher as more of a businesswoman than a politician; She didn't care much for a lot of bullshit the unions threw at her. It was either get it working in an acceptable manner or get the fuck out. Quite an interesting character. Don't really get the massive hate, yeah she was a bit authoritarian but that doesn't really seem like a bad quality in a prime minister when shit needs to get done, it was still a democracy in the end.
I bet America won't act like this when Bush Jr. dies.
Why are people rating him dumb and disagree? There won't be crowds of people cheering with Bush's death. Just because we didn't like him as a President means we want him to die. There's videos on Youtube of crowds chanting how they want Thatcher dead. Also to those mentioning the US celebrating the death of Osama: It's a bit different then cheering for the death of a previous leader. (Who is not somebody like Muammar al-Gaddafi). People cheered when Osama Bin Laden died because he DID cause the largest terrorist attack on US soil. Intentionally taking thousands of American lives.. (9/11).
I bet America won't act like this when Bush Jr. dies.
Probably. He only started two extremely long wars that were paid on credit and resulted in throttling the world economy into freefall. He's at least 60 percent responsible for the economic crisis.
Probably. He only started two extremely long wars that were paid on credit and resulted in throttling the world economy into freefall. He's at least 60 percent responsible for the economic crisis.
I'm curious as to how you calculated that figure.
Since when did FP get so conservative? Since the last year or year and a half you guys have done a full fucking 180.
All I can think of whenever I hear her name anymore is the 'Margret Thatcher the cum snatcher' story a long time back, oh God.
How does that makes things better? Don't you see how fucking creepy it is to celebrate killings. Especially unlawful ones carried out by the state.
You realize you're talking about the man that staged an event leading to the deaths of thousands of innocent people with planes filled with innocent people, right? I dont think anyone is in the wrong for atleast being somewhat happy knowing he cant do that again. I mean shit people are criticizing us for celebrating his death but comparatively nobody is complaining about this when the only reason you can give is one was an assassination and the other natural death? Jesus.

Both parties are literally dancing in the streets over the death of a person, except in the American case, they are dancing over the extra-judicial killing of a person. Yes yes 9/11 was bad, and certainly few will weep for Bin Laden, but celebrating death is celebrating death.
Probably. He only started two extremely long wars that were paid on credit and resulted in throttling the world economy into freefall. He's at least 60 percent responsible for the economic crisis.
Still better than Bin Laden.
You don't represent every American citizen, I'm sure there are plenty who legitimately wanted Bush to die.
Seriously, I do not know a single person who has that strong of a hatred for Bush. I'm not saying there isn't one, as there is always a select few. Sandwiches for example, even if one has ham and one has turkey, are still sandwiches. Does this not make them different though? Don't you think it's less ethical to celebrate the death of somebody like George W. Bush, as opposed to, say, Hitler? (Even though cheering the death of someone is ethnically wrong in the first place, don't get me wrong..)
Update: The song is now at number 10 in the midweek charts
Well even though it may of been bad stuff least thatcher did shit
You'd think people would stop buying it now that it's in the charts and they can all see how stunningly unoriginal they're being.

It's like Micheal Jackson's death We see him as some kind of freak or wierdo...until he's dead and then suddenly remember how he was the king of pop, etc
They're stimulating the economy and supporting artists. Good for them!
I think it's sad that people are celebrating a death but a lot of people (especially Americans who have not been affected by what she did while in power) need to stop trying to justify what she did. It's terrible that someone has died but Thatcher was a fucking bitch when she was living.

Americans quite like her because she and Reagan had a really good relationship. You don't want to justify everything she did, some of it was bad but not all of it and I think that alone is enough to not go have parties next to her funeral like all these internet spergs(in general not really here) are calling for.
A bitch that got shit done. Americans quite like her because she and Reagan had a really good relationship.
She might have 'got shit done' but she did it in the worst way possible. Also, I thought most Americans hated Reagan?
The whole "getting shit done" part was at the cost of disputing Britain in the longer term. She sold off and privatized the electric companies and public transport and screwed up the pension system, as a result there are literally old people dying of the cold in their homes because the heating bills are too high and their pensions can't pay for it. Some areas of the country are becoming ghost towns due to nobody wanting to pay for the bus to go over there and shop, as a result the shops are closing down due to them having no business making people even less likely to go there etc... She "got shit done" in the same way a bypass was built in hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, they bulldozed someone home giving zero fucks for the people inside. Here was a politician who worked for her party and not the people of the country she was in charge of.
She might have 'got shit done' but she did it in the worst way possible. Also, I thought most Americans hated Reagan?
Half of the US worship him as if he were the 13th Disciple.
I don't particularly mind that electric and utility companies were sold off, I do mind that nothing has been done since to ensure that energy prices remain low in the UK - especially with consideration to how it crippled British industry in the 70s. Besides, pensioners get bus passes and up to £300 in winter fuel allowance in addition to their pension.
Some areas of the country are becoming ghost towns due to nobody wanting to pay for the bus to go over there and shop, as a result the shops are closing down due to them having no business making people even less likely to go there etc...
That would be the demise of the high street, out of town shopping centres are booming - that isn't related to bus prices but access to parking and the rates charged on high street businesses.
