Due to the weight and lack of advancements in batteries, the range is not as long as a normal petrol car. It might not be 20 hours, but it's still ridiculously long. An inter-city car might work fine on a battery, but anyone who has to do a commute will suffer until they improve batteries.
Or just use hydrogen.
Brings up another point. Electric cars wouldn't be very good for long distance traveling. You might be able to go quite a ways without charging, but once you run out of juice, you need to sit there and wait for it to charge (which may possibly be hours), as opposed to a normal petrol car which you can refuel within 5-10 minutes and be on your way.
Wait, the Tesla has no transmission? Is it just an electric motor and a driveshaft/half shafts?
No gears = no gear changes = smoother, faster acceleration
Manual cars are more fun than automatic cars though
maybe a slow electric car would be good for your granny but you ain't impressing anyone with a tiny amount of car knowledge with your tesla
[editline]31st March 2011[/editline]
or a prius
according to gran turismo one lap on the nurburgring drains the battery to 52%
Tesla's butt-doctor verdict:
BUTTFRUSTRATED

We need nuclear cars that don't look 10x worse in design than the Jap electric cars.

Reminds me of Fallout 3
Well with an electric car you wouldn't need to worry about that now would you
They're not mature enough yet.
Or rather, the energy storage technologies aren't
makes it boring
Anything but double H gate manual gear shift feels weird to me..
Honestly I fall asleep when driving automatic's, and not a fan of those flappy paddle gear box's either...
Reminds me of Fallout 3
Because it's where the car designs in the game came from
