Really you're insensitive and you should avoid posting in this thread
People are already trying to take advantage of this tragedy to push their agenda:

she's litterally being sexist to make her gender seem better, in a time of tragedy and loss
holy dogshit this isn't a matter of man vs. woman, this is a matter of terrible people vs innocent civilians.
Its just a fact that getting shot at school is part of curriculum in America now
100,000 schools in the US with 10 shootings a year.
Truly a pandemic only rivaled by the current Ebola crisis.

Mmmmm. Nothing like dancing on the graves of dead teens to push your agenda.
Maybe her reasoning is wrong, but it's pretty undeniable that most school shooters are male.

Equating correlation with causation however is a big mistake
she's litterally being sexist to make her gender seem better, in a time of tragedy and loss

It's not at all about making females somehow seem better than males.
The "toxic masculinity" she is referring to is the combination of the fact that men, significantly moreso than women, see violence as a means to solve problems and the idea that men are encouraged to "bottle up" their emotions. To say nothing of the inherent masculinity of firearms themselves.

Most mass shooters are male and most dictators with mass murders and genocide under their belts are also male. Theres obviously some sort of correlation here......

regardless if this opinion of hers is right, regardless if there is "toxic masculinity" that drove this man to commit a crime, even though school shootings are generally looked down upon in our society across all genders, races, ages, etc. (that's putting it fucking lightly by the way,) this is still a fucking vile thing to say in the time of tragedy and loss. to push your own agenda by stringing together personal truths that have no real scientific backing other than an opinion piece from 2012 is a true evil, and only shows desperation in trying to bring people to your side in a time where they could be at their weakest.
i don't give a shit what the opinion or facts are on this subject, you do NOT try to force your personal opinions onto people like this. this is not a fight about man vs woman, hell, it's not even a fight. don't make it into one, especially after talking about how the subject made you "shake with fear and rage."
anyways, it's best not to perpetuate this conversation any further, lets focus on the real problem here.

Even if she's right, what's her point? What does she want?
Does she want all men to start acting like girls? Does she want all men to go extinct?
No, she just wants to piss off the internet about it so that she can get attention.
lol gotta love CNN and their commitment to proper, thoughtful coverage

CNN hasn't been a reputable news source for quite a while. They've been shit since before they were sad that the Stubenville rapists had their football careers ended because they gang raped a girl.

she seriously just gets less and less coherent every time she speaks. if I was receiving death threats by the dozen every hour and being forced to flee my home, I'd definitely make sure that when I do speak out about something it was actually worth my time. apparently she prefers making sensationalist, baseless remarks then calling them ''questions'' when it backfires.

The point is more that men shouldn't be constantly taught that they should suppress their emotions in and that violence is a way of proving your masculinity, which she is sort of right about in a way, that shouldn't be promoted as it promoted unhealthy behavior.
However there's no way of knowing whether these factors actually caused this shooting so she's jumped the gun a bit there.
The point is more that men shouldn't be constantly taught that they should suppress their emotions in and that violence is a way of proving your masculinity, which she is sort of right about in a way, that shouldn't be promoted as it promoted unhealthy behavior.
The downside to suppression of emotions is personal pain. And eventually it might build up into a pop. A violent outburst. People get hurt as a result.
But... I think everyone has to suppress their emotions to an extent. If they didn't, they would be complaining all the time at the horrors of the world, constantly ranting about the problems in their lives, and not getting along with life in a positive fashion.
The downside to unsuppressed emotions is the constant stream of personal pain being expressed, so most people start to hurt more as an empathetic reaction or even a negative reaction. And the water starts to get murky when groups start venting all the time. People can't tell what is and what isn't a priority problem, as many people are expressing their feelings. Instead of a genuine understanding of the world's problems, people will only hear about the problems being moaned about the most. And dwell on those.
Obviously there's a balance to be had when it comes to suppression. I think most people in the world do a good enough job, as they aren't blubbering fools or violent delinquents.

It's not so much that men should be blubbering idiots, and more that they shouldn't be expected to act stoic all the time. Like if a man has a problem he just gets told to "man up" whereas a woman would get a level of emotional support from those around them and wouldn't be criticised for feeling the way they are, that's what Anita is talking about there.
While it's a bit soon to be coming out and saying this was what caused the shooting, I think people are a bit too quick to jump anything Anita says, even if she's kind of right.
As usual the American media is going to glorify the killer and post his name and face everywhere, which is going to inspire another kill, and the thing is going to happend again.
Gotta be honest... had no idea this happened until I saw this thread. That's a good thing. Means the media isn't blowing it up for once.
R.I.P. to those who have perished though.
It's not so much that men should be blubbering idiots, and more that they shouldn't be expected to act stoic all the time.
Yeah, that's pretty much the balance I was talking about. But Anita doesn't sound like she's advocating balance. It's easy to look at what she's saying and think that she's just prodding at corpses, saying they are dead because of male culture.
Like if a man has a problem he just gets told to "man up" whereas a woman would get a level of emotional support from those around them and wouldn't be criticised for feeling the way they are
Both men and women are encouraged to face adversity, that's what "man up" typically means, be stoic, don't let negative emotions dictate your behavior. Men are more so encouraged than women to behave this way, simply because it's a malecentric phrase which appeared a while back when men were the typical working gender. I think this phrase should be applied to anyone who dwells on negative emotions, only when they need to do something urgent instead.
Obviously problems arise when emotions are suppressed too much, but we should point the finger directly at that problem instead of masculinity itself. That's like me blaming feminine culture for women who are depressed.
that's what Anita is talking about there.
How do you know Anita isn't simply slamming masculinity itself? Either because she dislikes it, or she wants reactions.
While it's a bit soon to be coming out and saying this was what caused the shooting, I think people are a bit too quick to jump anything Anita says, even if she's kind of right.
I think there are people who genuinely disagree with her opinion here though. Implying that they aren't thinking about it, jumping the gun, is a pretty sweeping statement that disregards negative reactions.

They're not blowing it up because the body count wasn't high and it doesn't look like an indiscriminate attack either.
This happened 2 block from my Grandmother's house
