Before you dismiss this as "HURR DURR AMERICA IS SATAN"
Australia tried to Breed out the Aboriginies.
They literally kidnapped Aboriginal children and sent them to schools to be bred out and turned into whites over time.
America did it too.

Although as far as I know America doesn't try to pretend like it never happened either (anymore) and they completely reversed course under FDR. We learned a lot about this in high school history in fucking NC of all places and there was no attempt at whitewashing it like Australia does. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_wars
On topic. At least NC is actually considering repayment unlike the other 31 states. And the thread title is misleading people into thinking this is happening now when it ended in the 70s.
Not trying to justify it in the slightest by the way. Sure, repayment does fuck all but at least the current government is trying to make amends for what assholes did 40 years ago, so it's not all bad. I'm more worried that the other 31 states haven't even begun to acknowledge it. I hate this state too, but look on the bright side.
Yea but did we try and breed out Indians throughout the whole of the 20th century?
Sweden has a similar history. We had the world's first state-funded racial biology research center, and between 1934 and 1975 approximately 63000 people were sterilised. 1600 of those were economically compensated after the sterilisation laws had been abolished.
Who the hell had the idea to name their baby girl "Riddick"?
Elaine Riddick. It's her last name.
For those who wish to be a little more informed, google "Eugenics".

Badass last name
Been reading a lot about this in the Raleigh paper lately. They're trying to figure out how to compensate the many victims. They were sterilized for being poor, black, raped, or just dumb. Think the term was "mentally feeble" or something like that to justify it. Happened to a lot of people, and it's bizarre to think it happened as recently as the 70s. It's pretty awful.

Not really. A lot of fucks were still in charge then.
Yea but did we try and breed out Indians throughout the whole of the 20th century?
True which is why I said "and they completely reversed course under FDR"
Any length of time is terrible
Ah, the global eugenics movements of the middle 20th century. This is EXACTLY why we have history classes in school. To teach people to think and stop things like this from ever happening again. Also, to all of you who advocated eugenics in this thread, GROW THE FUCK UP.
I can't believe a law like this even passed, in 32 states even.
But then again, it was the 20's-70's, what can you do. :frown:
Reparations for those affected?
I can actually agree with the idea of sterilization if the person has had, say, six kids in as many years, but one kid....
SHE WAS FUCKING RAPED! How is that fucking promiscuous?
If you can agree with the idea of the state sterilizing someone against their will under any circumstance ever there is something dreadfully wrong with you.
