Why do you do good things? The only reason "normal" people do good things is because it's built into them. In the end there's no good, it's just self interest all the way. It just turns out that this built-in self interest involves empathy and other people because people thrive when they are together, so evolutionarily speaking, mutations that made people care about each other survived, while other less caring ones didn't. But to answer your question: I feel that most of them do things they enjoy doing. SOME of them enjoy manipulating people, SOME of them enjoy playing an instrument, SOME of them enjoy making games, SOME of them enjoy hurting people, SOME of enjoy seeking power, SOME of them enjoy cooking. They are as diverse as all other groups of people, so saying MOST of them enjoy X is probably false. So, some of them do charitable acts because they like the interaction with other people, some to stay above suspicion, some for [reason we can't even begin to consider because people are so diverse].

Quite frankly this guy isn't the only person who programs, and he sure isn't the only good teacher on the internet. I'd be much happier to never think of him again or give him any undeserved views, and move on to someone else, who quite frankly is probably better.

Doesn't matter if he stays in jail or not. When and if he gets out I will make sure he only views the dirt side of grass. This will be his only view forever, he will never hurt any child again. I hope that take care of him in prison first.
