apparently, almost every political party including ones that outright opposes erdogan is condemning this coup, special forces commander is against it, and etc. IMO, it seems like a hail mary effort from a military group that wanted to kill erdogan, but fucked up and let him get away now they're just stalling to plan for what they do next
But wasn't he on vacation?
I'm trying to understand what going on, please correct me if I'm wrong. From my understanding the police and some parts of the military fought some other part of the military, then attacked the intelligence building. Then Erdogan urged for protests and now people are for him? Whats going on?
Basically the police is against the millitary that are supporting the coup. It seems to me that the coup holding supporters of the army are in low numbers and it mostly consists of the air force (Hence why you see them blowing up buildings) and the navy. Erdogan urged for protests and the mosques are also ordering everyone to get out on the street to protest the coup.
Is the coup failing?
AT THIS MOMENT it looks like it parties are throwing this coup under the bus including anti-erdogan ones, special forces commander condemns it, coup soldiers are getting arrested left & right, and etc. but, its still developing and the information is still limited

Media is saying the ministry of culture of Brazil is at an hotel in Istanbul right now
Just watched protesters chanting Allahu Ackbar pull a soldier from an IFV after he fired warning shots
Is the coup failing?
Yeah this is a complete failure, so lets hope it ends with a whimper.
Can people stop spamming the thread with "omg gunfire bridge!"? It's been like half the posts for the last five pages. We get it.
Is the coup failing?
From the looks of it and the declarations of some parts, yes, it's failing. Perhaps they were planning the coup or gathering supporters and someone leaked the info to the loyalists and then they preemptively launched the coup. It wouldn't be new. That happened in Argentina in 1955. Thing is, as the communications delay was longer than today, the anti gov coup had a chance to make it seem like it had support. My bet is they wanted to see if some other parts of the military who might be anti erdogan joined up, but the quick answer by pro erdogan people and the eventual siding of the police and intelligence services with Erdogan scared them away from joining the coup.
There are reports that loyalist F16´s just shot down a rebel UH-60 Blackhawk.I don´t have a link.
I think its starting to shift momentum, people aren't very happy with the military.
the "majority" of the turkish population supports erdogan, or at least a sizeable enough portion to get him voted into office as with all cults of personality, his supporters love him
Military helicopter shot down by a Jet, according to Sky news
This was also apparently a coup helicopter, so remember that.
If the coup fail, it will only lead to even more power to the Islamist...
apparently, almost every political party including ones that outright opposes erdogan is condemning this coup, special forces commander is against it, and etc. IMO, it seems like a hail mary effort from a military group that wanted to kill erdogan, but fucked up and let him get away now they're just stalling to plan for what they do next
They wanted to kill him on a day its international public knowledge he's out of the country?
But wasn't he on vacation?
apparently so? didn't hear that, just a lot of reports of him being escorted and seeking asylum, thought thats why he was being directly attacked then i dont know what the fuck their objective is besides trying to take over buildings information is still limited and if this is just a minority group, wheres the main army to stop this shit? shits crazy fam
problem for army is that it has no obvious support base due to how the politics of turkey has ended up erdogan supporters largely islamic nationalists/religious conservatives and will oppose coup for political reasons his opposition are largely liberals and social democrats who will oppose coup for ideological reasons
F16 shot down that attack helicopter that's been going to town. This is turning into civil war
And so the death tolls begin, fuck this lets hope it isnt real. Translation:17 cops are reported dead after the attack to special forces HQ in Ankara AP is reporting on it too now:
