Because a 98% Muslim country doesn't really have that much problem with the government becoming increasingly Islamic.
can we just resurrect ataturk?
I wonder how much the damage overall will cost the country
so did the government retake control of Constantinople or what? looks like anarchy in ankara too
Istanbul, not Constantinople. [sp]been a long time gone, old Constantinople[/sp]
So from what i can gather, it seems its pretty much done now besides the military moving around. Edit: Another word of a bombing just as i posted that
Nope, not over. Apparently CNN Turk just got hijacked by soldiers and the national assembly is still getting bombed.
Man that national assembly is getting severely hit again and again.
Stability at the cost of hundreds being arrested for voicing their opinion?
so did the government retake control of Constantinople or what? looks like anarchy in ankara too
The Eastern Roman Empire controls Constantinople.
Why are so many people in Turkey loyal to Erdegon and his minions? He should be jailed!
the question is, what do you do when a country democratically elects a dictator?
Do we have a list of what govt buildings have been explodified?
Because a 98% Muslim country doesn't really have that much problem with the government becoming increasingly Islamic.
Not really becoming islamic, more like becoming radical... Which nobody fucking likes.
Stability at the cost of hundreds being arrested for voicing their opinion?
Yes stability, because unstability would lead to a massive geopolitical crisis that could lead to worse damage than free speech arrests.
It seems like all these "the coup has failed" tweets are just bluffs. Is there any legitimacy to them?
Two more explosions are government buildings
well whoever runs the turkish military website says that the coup succeeded. http://www.tsk.tr/BasinFaaliyetleri/BA_188 I can't confirm because it won't load.
Yes stability, because unstability would lead to a massive geopolitical crisis that could lead to worse damage than free speech arrests.
Something tells me people who are horribly oppressed don't really care about geopolitics.
CNN Turk currently been taken over by soilders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO0g09LfbNQ&feature=youtu.be
It seems like all these "the coup has failed" tweets are just bluffs. Is there any legitimacy to them?
All are from pro-erdogan sources, so take with a grain of salt.
It seems like all these "the coup has failed" tweets are just bluffs. Is there any legitimacy to them?
I get the feeling that pro-Erdogan tweets are being spammed everywhere and news are taking them as fact, as well as being too willing to accept government announcements as true. Govt: Coup has been defeated! *Parliament gets bombed by coup three times* Govt: Military loyalists control the country! *Parliament bombed again, take over CNN Turkey*
Congrats to the military who tried to overthrow Erdogan They now hold the record for the poorest attempt at a coup d'etat of the 21st century. They didn't even last for a whole day. "Ok troops, disembark! Now form a line and tell all the civilians that we are going to protect the democracy" *sees angry crowd chanting pro erdogan slogans, claiming for their deaths and closing in* "Oh. GG everybody."
I get the feeling that pro-Erdogan tweets are being spammed everywhere and news are taking them as fact, as well as being too willing to accept government announcements as true. Can't you people see that?
Yes stability, because unstability would lead to a massive geopolitical crisis that could lead to worse damage than free speech arrests.
"We must continue to oppress these people because otherwise it might have an actual effect one me"
im seeing the military slowly taking over a channel right now. the anchorwoman is describing everything. you can hear shouting in background
Congrats to the military who tried to overthrow Erdogan They now hold the record for the poorest attempt at a coup d'etat of the 21st century.
Something tells me people who are horribly oppressed don't really care about geopolitics.
Same goes back to the west caring about people being horribly oppressed.
"We must continue to oppress these people because otherwise it might have an actual effect one me"
This isn't my own egotistical view either, the western governments seems to agree that its' best to keep everything stable when its' possible even if its ethically wrong.
Please don't fail. Whatever your view on this coup may be, if this coup fails it will only legitimize Erdogan and allow him to push his country further into a oppressive, dictatorial nightmare, likely allowing him to do so immediately after the coup would have failed.
im seeing the military slowly taking over a channel right now. the anchorwoman is describing everything. you can hear shouting in background
tell us if she says anything big.
im seeing the military slowly taking over a channel right now. the anchorwoman is describing everything. you can hear shouting in background
As a Turk how do you feel about the coup? Support or condemn? And why? It's weird that we have Turkish posters here yet 99% of opinions on the coup are from Westerners who don't really know anything about Turkey, myself included.
You realize the coup is still ongoing, right?
Yeah I know, but I didn't have the impact it was supposed to have, I guess. Plus, that must have been what the officer in charge of the soldiers who took the bridge thought when he saw all the people closing in.
As a Turk how do you feel about the coup? Support or condemn?
this is not the right way to take him down
Yeah I know, but I didn't have the impact it was supposed to have, I guess.
Coups generally last several days. It's just getting started.
Yeah I know, but I didn't have the impact it was supposed to have, I guess.
I don't know, it seems like they're still going in full force. I'd wait a while before we declare a winner.
Alright I got a few questions; First, what is the coup? And second who is the guy on the plane? Sorry for being a bit behind.
