Alright, i'm just going to write this away. Never been the fella to write such long paragraphs; nor read them, but today was a horrible day overall. Have been staying up for 16 hours now. Its also probably nothing compared to what Syrians saw in their homelands, but still it was a terrifying experience.
First sign me and my uncle had was, that F16 airplanes started to roam around the city. We wanted to figure what was going wrong so i went into some of the news sites and learned theres a military coup just started in Ankara and Istanbul. First, TSK (Turkish Army) released a news notice, saying that today will be the day to break the current rulers. Then, as we are watching the news stations to obtain more data, breaking news appeared: PM said that these words werent coming from the whole army, but from some of the soldiers who are bound to FETO (Fethullah Gulen), which is like a terrorist group and a betrayer for Turkey (they were never good to begin with, they became enemies when Erdogan and Gulen had a dispute). The ministers started to take phone calls on the channels, saying that this will not be accepted. Shit hit the fan so fast we couldnt even catch up. One minute later we started to hear machine guns and bombs hitting TBMM. Those sounds i will probably remember for the rest of my life.
Now here's the ridiculous part. Erdogan was never a good ruler and a person, yet he had %50 of the country on his back. When your capital is being bombed or occupied by the fucking army, you dont just go out and tell the citizens to come outside the streets to protest. That will surely hurt them, right?
This fucking guy used the mosques as a propaganda equipment, asking for everyone to go out and harass the army men. THE ARMY MEN. THEY HAVE GUNS, YOUR CITIZENS DONT. I could already see how bad this was going to be, and within mere minutes we already had gore footage of people getting slaughtered by chopper machine guns or people getting crushed under tanks. And oh boy, like thats not enough his people TRIES TO BURN THE TANKS THEY FOUND WITH SOLDIERS INSIDE THEM. We're talking about the same country men shedding blood over nothing. I never liked Erdogan's supporters but this is just madness.
After 4 AM, my family couldnt hold up much more, so they went to sleep. I couldnt because on this country i was so goddamn sure one or two of those bullets would hit home. I had to guard my family, so i just watched the planes fly over districts again and again.
In the end? 47 people deceased, and many more coming up surely. Not even talking about the injuries. And at this point people start to realize something else. Erdogan could have just done this to cover up past problems, and bring in a system half of the country doesnt like at all. People would have 2 weeks worth of content to talk about, and he would just slide through all the obstacles on his way. JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE THE SOLE PERSON RULING THE COUNTRY, HE CONDONES 47 DECEASED HUMAN BEING.
And then, at 6 AM i get another announcement that TSK will be continuing their march. While i'm writing these i still hear jets flying around. I'm not sure if this is tolerable anymore.
stay safe.

If not today, tomorrow. Either by the suicide bombings, or rape murder, or in between a shootout. Good thing about dieing is you die once.

Sigh. I'm so depressed. Thanks for the kind words. Still hearing the jets roaming.

They are allegedly killing the surrendering bridge soldiers
If this turns out to be true, I hope the military is capable of overthrowing Erdogan and executing him. Fuck him and his supporters. Animals the lot of them for killing surrendering soldiers.

Erdogan supporters are fucking scum, nobody surprised.

This sounds terrifying. Hope you and your family remain safe.
well now, if that's true, holy crap they just opened a can of worms that will simultaneously spiral out of control
The idea of a benevolent trusting Junta just seems incredibly naive, a lot of people died and disappeared in the last few and typically only candidates they approved could run for office.
I mean the military is shooting protestors on the street, why exactly are people so in favor of this?
Let me remind you that the only reason the military is shooting those protestors is because they were fucking advancing at them. They even fired warning shots and the protestors continued. You can't say those protestors were peaceful either, look at the video of tank being taken over by some protestors and watch as they beat the shit out of the commander of the tank. This isn't even to mention that those protestors were already on bad terms because the military declared a curfew and martial law, but sure because the military were forced to respond with lethal force they're the bad guys here. I mean hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason those soldiers are in custody right now is because they didn't want this to end in bloodshed and when it did, they didn't want anymore happening. Please get the facts straight dude.
Anyone got the tl;dr version of events so far? Who are the people attempting the coup? Who's winning?
Honestly, if you're educated and belong to a profession that is marketable internationally, you should work on leaving Turkey as soon as possible.
I don't even live in Turkey and I'm worried about what might be caused because of this. I mean this is the stuff that could spawn wars no? eitherway I wish all people who are in this mess luck and to please stay safe

The protestors were also chanting allahu akbar. If I were a soldier in that part of the world and an angry mob was advancing on me chanting allahu akbar, I'd be more than a little on edge.
Police are taking uninvolved naval commanders into custody now, looks like the military cleansing begins.

GOD FUCKING DAMN IT. If there's any conclusive fucking evidence that the military were trying to defend themselves when the protestors advanced, it's fucking this.

"Allahu Ackbar" is arabic for "God is great." It's pretty much a generic religion based exclamation in that region, akin to "jesus christ" and "thank god" over here. Nothing negative about it, and saying it doesn't automatically mean it's terrorism/extremism based.

You do know that the military consists of primarily muslim soldiers....
To expand a bit more than other have, it's looking like the most of the navy, most of the airforce and some of the land forces of the military attempted to take control of Ankara and Istanbul in a coup. It's unknown whether the coup was initiated by the Top Brass of the military, but it's looking like it wasn't. Currently it appears the forces in Istanbul are failing, namely due to a substantial amount of popular support for Erdogan in that area, but Ankara is still unknown. As for Erdogan, he did an interview with CNN Turk using FaceTime calling for people to rise up against this coup, and later was flown into Istanbul at an airport controlled by pro-coup forces but was able to go on just fine. Leader of opposition parties to Erdogan have condemned the coup, and the world at large seems to as well. For now, it seems the coup forces are attempting to kill Erdogan using airstrikes, and have bombed the shit out of the Turkish main assembly building.
The amount of NSFW videos on this thread, already shows how bad turkey is.

Erdogan is a religious nut. His supporters are religious nuts. They were chanting it, not just saying it as an expression of surprise or shock. I'd say they were meaning it as in "Allah will punish the coup forces"
[editline]15th July 2016[/editline]
And now they're murdering soldiers who surrendered.

Yeah but this entire coup seems to literally be about secularism so I could see that pro erdogan protestors would be saying it for religious reasons.
Isn't it against the Geneva convention to kill or harm those soldiers?
What the fuck.
They are your FELLOW COUNTRYMEN.
Stupid cunts, fuck Turkey. Remove them from NATO,

geneva conventions don't really apply here
geneva conventions don't really apply here
I doubt in any Western country, surrendering soldiers from your OWN FUCKING COUNTRY wouldn't be fucking murdered on the spot. We don't even need the Geneva Convention to tell us that, but apparently these spastic, SS-tier fucksticks do since they are completely fine with killing their own countrymen all while shouting Allahu Akbar. Fuck that and fuck them.

this isn't a war though
shows how backwards the country is when they glorifying killing surrendered soldiers instead of arresting and given trial.
this isn't a war though
I'm pretty sure a fucking coop can be classified as an armed conflict
Are your really gonna knickpick when it's come to the point to where a NATO member is executing their own soldiers and throwing their bodies into the river?
