Isn't it the protesters executing soldiers though? These kinds of people in conflicts are known not to give a fuck about potential war crimes and I'm pretty sure it isn't one.
Fuck Erdogan. Fuck his supporters. My sympathies to the Coup soldiers and their families. I hope it's not too late for those that are still alive to find shelter from the senseless storm of fanatics that will be coming for them all shortly.
Doesn't apply here.
IT applies to states, not individuals or loosely knit organizations.
They should be put through a trial as per the turkish law, because that's taking justice into their hands and that is competence of the judiciary power.
Of course
AS the judiciary is friends with Erdogans, there won't be justice for these soldiers neither

hey, you got your definition from wikipedia, me too!

You going to hold a trial against every single person there? I'm pretty sure this would be qualified as murder, not a war crime.
"Allahu Ackbar" is arabic for "God is great." It's pretty much a generic religion based exclamation in that region, akin to "jesus christ" and "thank god" over here. Nothing negative about it, and saying it doesn't automatically mean it's terrorism/extremism based.
In some situations sure but in an angry mob advancing on soldiers? Really?

What the fuck is happening anyway?
Is the military losing at the moment?

You can argue semantics all night but that doesn't make this any less of an armed conflict regardless of the synonymous meanings of the term
all hes getting at is that no country should be excluded from the geneva convention, and that this situation of soldiers being murdered is a huge no-no
It's really just unbelievably pedantic, unarmed soldiers in the process of surrendering have been straight up murdered. War crime or not, it was still a goddamn crime

It seems as if they dont want to (understandably) kill unarmed people even if they are fanatic erdogan supporters.

Just for clarification by fanatic Erdogan supporters you mean the unarmed people right?
turkey is going down a very bad path and it is too late for it to turn around

Tell me how well you compose yourself when an angry mob chants Allah Ackbar coming towards you.

Didn't a Turk say earlier in the thread say the people behind the military coup are loyal to one of Erdogan's political opponents that isn't any better than he is? If so it's not like supporting the people trying to forcibly take over the government is really an option.

There is no evidence that that was anything other than a lie by Erdogan.

Gulen already put out a statement condemning the coup
What a shame. Today was the day that Islamic Turkey could've turned to the right path of secularism.

The sad part if they have succeeded then they would have served as a good example for other Muslim majority countries
So the military got bopped by the police and civilians?
So the military got bopped by the police and civilians?
I'm still pretty sure they are in control of Ankara unless something happened that I missed.
Are the osmans any part of this or are they pretty much powerless nowadays?
Has there actually been any word from Ankara?
I keep hearing that's where the coup has the strongest foothold but as near as I can tell, all the information forthcoming is from Istanbul

Unfortunately it looks like they're on the path to becoming yet another corrupt Islamist country.

Is this a good place to enact Godwin's law?
Welp, looks right about time for good old U.S. or Russia to hop in.
I wonder if Greece will take advantage of the situation and take back Cyprus?
Well atleast my cousin in Instanbul is okay. They're resuming flights there, but she landed a couple hours before the attack on their airport a couple weeks ago.
But what is there to expect in an region that has growing turmoil?
This makes me so sad to see this world head into another world war, another crusade again over dead gods and lost wars. I do not want to be apart of that situation.
