World War 3? Unlikely, however a war isolated within Europe and Middle East is more likely
So World War III.
World War 3? Unlikely, however a war isolated within Europe and Middle East is more likely
another big war in europe is less than a step away from becoming a world war
I don't get this
How are they going to take over?
The military?
Guns tanks and aircraft presumably
I knew Erdogan wasn't the most popular outside Turkey but I didn't know he was that hated inside too. Best of luck to you in Turkey
It's so cool watching this unfold in real time with the internet and social media
Wait what? Why?
I hope the military fix Turkey and don't put a dictatorial government. I don't know for sure if the reports of what Erdogan did are true, if they are, I just hope this coup fixes it.
It's so cool watching this unfold in real time with the internet and social media
It is a little, but it's also quite unnerving...
I have a family friend who lives in Turkey and he says he has no idea what is going on right now. A lot of confusion.
I hope the military fix Turkey and don't put a dictatorial government.
So you were cheering for the military, not the cancelled flights?
Alright.
I knew Erdogan wasn't the most popular outside Turkey but I didn't know he was that hated inside too. Best of luck to you in Turkey
Why would you be surprised? He's been trying to suppress free speech for years and he's not even trying to hide that he's an Islamist.
Okay so but are the military the good guys or the bad guys here
In situations like this one, there usually aren't any good guys.
At least not to a degree where you could apply that label without a lot of qualifiers.
Here we are sitting infront of our computers, trying to imagine what is happening at this very moment. I'm a strong supporter of the Turkish people, and may this terrifying event become a neccessary one.
Last thing you want is a cleric taking control of such a powerful country.
eh, moderate pro democratic cleric.
snip
Let's hope this is only for the better of Turkey, and the whole world.
And let's hope that Erdogan gets his ass brutally anihilated.
It's so cool watching this unfold in real time with the internet and social media
I agree. But it's still crazy to know that this is actually happening.
It is a little, but it's also quite unnerving...
I probably shouldn't have said 'cool', I just feel very on edge (and someone excited to see Erdogan go) even though this will never directly affect me in Canada
Hopefully the Turkish government doesn't head for the Incirlik Air Force Base, considering they have a pretty good stash of B61 Nuclear Gravity Bombs
with the launch codes AND the warheads in the hands of the US and US soldiers that would be impossible
Why would you be surprised? He's been trying to suppress free speech for years and he's not even trying to hide that he's an Islamist.
I thought it was sort of thing where if you said anything bad you'd get locked up so in their eyes he'd look good since no one would say bad things about him (not in public atleast)
Granted this isn't a North Korea situation where the media shows him to be some amazing guy
Regarding internet censorship again:
Apparently (at least for now) they're just doing DNS blocking. Switch to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and you should be able to access everything.
I probably shouldn't have said 'cool', I just feel very on edge (and someone excited to see Erdogan go) even though this will never directly affect me in Canada
It's interesting watching such a major thing live.
So the coup doesn't have support by the entire military. I hope this doesn't result in a civil war.
i hope they don't shut down the airports for too long cuz my brother n his family are gonna be stuck there otherwise
Internet is hardly working here
Official announcement happened on television just now, news channels are mentioning a second gunfight
I'm just hoping this is not going to end in violence and the people of Turkey will be safe. Something like this hasn't happened in what, years?
Unprecedented, simply.
World War 3? Unlikely, however a war isolated within Europe and Middle East is more likely
And the enemy would be?
What has the world turned into?
2016 has been one hell of a year for sure.
Where did you get that?
BBC reported that at least one of the general's highest ranking generals is being held hostage. Their source for that was Turkey's state-owned news agency, so it's reliability is questionable.
