UK weather: Britain to sizzle in three-month heatwave with temperatures reaching 28C

Soon as all the brits die from the heat, lets take the Island and use it for a giant theme park!
oh no everyones tea will remain warmer for longer.

It's not like our houses are insulated like hell and really bad in warm/hot weather as well as the fact almost no one has air conditioning. 30c is nothing to joke about when your house is specifically designed to keep heat in especially if you're old or vulnerable.
Fixed my bike, actually went out both today and yesterday.
I don't know what's wrong with me, physical exertion is supposed to be something I avoid.
how many times do they say crap like this. f.e. In november 'Worst snow to hit us in ten years' - no snow
i actually checked up on this a while back and every single winter for at least the last 4 years tabloids have said its going to be the coldest winter in 50 years or whatever, and they have been mild every year to say the least.
I still remember last summer over here.
Fucking hell, it felt like a south-american rain-forest, hottest summer I've ever experienced.
i was in sweden the last 2 summers on what i believe were the hottest weeks of the summer. was so good though because summer is always nice when you are outside and surrounded by nature (which is the case for most of sweden), and have a nice cool lake to swim in every evening.
every summer i just get my huge old desk fan out and stock up the freezer on ice to put in all my drinks and im quite fine, its easy to appreciate the sunny days if you are prepared for them.
Ironic that I came here to study partially to escape the heat and it's just going to be the same temperature as it is back home.

probably going to be less humid than Singapore though, humidity makes a hell of a difference
Be glad you don't live in Florida then. It can reach ninety degrees farenheit, or even a hundred somewhat easy.
Thing is Florida is built with that in mind. The weather is physically hotter, yes, but the houses aren't as heavily insulated and everything has air con. Over here houses are well insulated boxes designed to cope with winter, and they do it very well. When it comes to summer, the insulation is too effective, the place heats up over time, and is basically melting, in addition to nowhere having AC! (unless you work in a server room, meat packing plant, hospital or something!) It all heats up and us frail English people die.
I won't be able to bloody sleep. The sun is on my room non stop from about 12pm.
All my tiles are dark and my room is heavily insulated. So even though its night and I have all the windows open its still like an oven.
Not looking forward to this.
And yes I've tried sleeping naked with no sheets on, it doesn't work.
Well, time to look online for a portable AC unit. That said I'll need to check the power requirements so I don't overload the circuit...

Oh gods I know that feeling all too well. And what's worse is that I have trouble sleeping with thin sheets but can't handle the heat either, so I'll probably need to find some sort of refrigerating blanket to boost the cool and keep the weight of a good duvet.
i understand where the brits are coming from, the climate in washington state seems to be pretty similar to the climate in britian and thus our houses are all insulated highly and air conditioning isn't ubiquitous, but i'm not sure if i would say 28c is hot enough to get any extra attention besides "thank god the sun has burned away the clouds"
but if you guys ain't used to it, you're not used to it, so i guess it is a big deal
Aw yiiiish, for like 30 euro i can fly to the UK and back so that means a weekend trip to the UK once its nice and hot there.
Not if I vote UKIP.
Fucking immigrants trying to steal our British sun.
At least I can finally go outside

Room with a south facing window, modern insulation is very good at keeping heat in, and it isn't very big. It's an oven when there is any prolonged sun, I hate it.

Oh I know it sucks but I live in a varying climate as well... Top floor apartment that was made in the 70's with amazing insulation in the winter. I get it. Its hot. Thats why I have two box fans to constantly circulate air. But I guess those don't exist in britain because its so cold right? Their are also nifty contraptions you can make with just your freezer, ice and a cooler. Even a dehumidifier will help cool down a room because you are getting rid of that sticky hot moisture. It gets up to 46C here in summer time but guess what old people still die even if they have AC and they are acclimated to this climate.
I don't mean to belittle Britain or anything, but a heatwave here is 98+ F (37+ C).
And this is Connecticut, a relatively cold and humid place.
EDIT: I appreciate the dumbs, but I said I'm not trying to belittle anyone. Just pointing out how different things can be from one place to the next.
Nah this is pothole season, give it a couple of months and then our roads will turn into soup.
On the brightside, it means the potholes will smooth themselves out
On the brightside, it means the potholes will smooth themselves out
Not really, it just means that they'll crack more and then the roads get worse, then we get to deal with the roads melt and not fix themselves, and then we get to deal with the council being colossal gaping assholes and not tearing up the roads and actually replacing them which they desperately need to do, but instead they'll just fill the fucking holes.
Honestly the roads where I live are absolute wank half the time.
28C is like the best temperature we can hope for here in Canada, for a nice summer.
Granted it's hot as fuck, but I enjoy hot summers when I know that 3 months after it we plunge back into the deep freeze
How cold does the UK get in Winter? Where I live in the U.S. the coldest months get down to below -5 F and the warmest can break a humid 100+ F
So the comparison posts start again, sure signs that summer soon is here on Facepunch :v:
I'm just saying it's crazy how cold britain normally is
according to our met office, it's supposed to be 18 degrees today. this is considered blistering heat in ireland.
I still find it both adorable and amazing that 28°c is somehow the absolute peak of tolerable heat for people.
It's insane how the human body adapts to shit.

I used to live lin a brick house where the sun was hitting the outer walls of the apartment from sunrise to sundown. Inside tempetatures usually shot up to 45c in the evening, wasnt very nice
[editline]14th April 2015[/editline]
28c doesn't really seem that bad though. Some years we have - 30c in the winter and +30in the summer
note; Every time there's a thread about heatwaves in the UK, everyone seems to think that 28c (82f) isn't that hot, but when you live somewhere where it's cold all the time, temperatures like 30c is very hot for the people enduring it.
So lets maybe not start a debate about temperature adaptation or how 30c isn't that bad, pretty please?
But you don't, every time it goes below like 5c it's a national crisis and even the hospitals close down. There is like, a 15 degree temperature range between 10 and 25 that works, anything else and it's a national emergency
Currently 13c with 73% Humidity, roll on winter boys.
I don't have enough wife beaters for this heat.
Pretty sure we had an 30C day in august last year?
Either way, I'm fucked.
Pretty sure we had an 30C day in august last year?
Either that or I was lied to.
Oh we definitely did, was horrible.
Got quite annoying having to separate my bollocks from my legs every ten minutes.
For some reason whenever the temperatures hit between 20-25, I can manage. But when the temperatures go beyond 25c I start to sweat like no tomorrow at my desk and I break out our portable airconditioner.
Funny was I was starting to get used to those temperatures, but it was already getting autumn.
shirtless white dudes in cargo shorts with a carlsberg in hand, summer is here people
I bet his name is fucking Gaz too.
