Didn't they very specifically mention that there would be no dashboard advertisements not too long ago?
Didn't they very specifically mention that there would be no dashboard advertisements not too long ago?
None on the home screen
How much are they paying you Zach?
I second this. How much are they paying you Zach? Or are you THAT delusional to think Microsoft is making a superior product to everything else being offered within the next 6 months?
I'm glad i stopped using Xbox Live long before they started with advertisements, just having them pop up before a video on youtube annoys the everliving fuck out of me. I don't want to watch your shitty advert for Nissan cars, i just want to watch photonicinduction blow shit up. I swear, if they add in midgame advertisements, i will be so pissed off, i probably won't do anything, but i will be extremely pissed off.

I know you guys like to think of yourself as all knowing future seeing next gen console gurus, but lets wait for solid information or you know the product coming out first before making baseless comments

NEWSFLASH: 99% of threads where you spammed people with dumb ratings were threads where Microsoft said something extremely fucking stupid/ridiculous and whenever someone calls you out on it you just say "well it isn't out yet, you don't know how it is". I'll take Microsoft's public relations team's word for it considering you know, they're employees of the company making the console itself.
I dunno, I think this guy might be legit
Even if it is, it is being taken out of context like everything else. What the article is saying is that ads will be less noticeable and not just be like a tile on xbox 360. They are designing it so it will be less obtrusive.

dumb fuckers will buy into it anyway. this is how microsoft gets away with this shit.
And more subliminal [sub][sub][sub][sub]buy mountain dew buy doritos kill your parents watch anime[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
for some reason I have the suddenly overwhelming desire to buy mountain dew buy doritos kill my parents watch anime
I believe I brought this up during a previous Xbox One and/or Kinetic thread and got laughed off. Who is laughing now?
How? Even the ad on iOS/Android, which are the same as what Microsoft is doing, are annoying as fuck.
Pretty much this. The only advertising 'experience' I've ever appreciated was The Duty Calls, and I don't forsee a lot of companies doing that.

Also look at Microsoft vs Sony in recent years as "track record" when it comes to exclusives. [t]http://i.imgur.com/sQVyYcU.jpg[/t] Also look at all those games you get for FREE when you're paying $4.99 a month to be a PS+ subscriber (with cloud saving, discounted games, universal voice chat, various other features) [t]http://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/PlayStation-Plus-Year-One-Free-Games.png[/t] versus... that tower defense game and Assassins Creed 2 and Halo 3 which were promised to launch the "free for gold program" (but they didn't deliver, but it's coming I guess)

I like how Sony did advertising on the PS3. All of it is related to games or other Sony products. It's just a ticker in the top right that will show release dates, inform you of sales, or announce an upcoming game update. None of it is this dumb Mountain Dew, Doritos, or whatever else is on the Xbox Dashboard. There are ads in PlayStation Home but who really uses that?
I don't understand why they keep gloating about how much BETTER their ads are getting when pretty much everyone is screaming at them to fuck off with that shit.
"our console is created with advertising in mind" is like the last thing you want to say out loud during an interview with a gaming news site short of "we take a big fat shit on every console before shipping it" but there you have it he said it how can they think that's something that's gonna make people want to buy an Xbox?
I can't believe nobody has posted this.

Thats a fuckton of games, and good ones at that!
Don't you even try to pull the "DOUBLE STANDARRRRDDDSSS" argument. Ads for games on youtube is far different then ads on my console that I have no choice in seeing or not and you know it.
no ads on youtube are just as awful. if they turned it into a sort of "xbox magazine" or "pc gamer" or "playstation magazine" that got added right into the dashboard? great nonintrusive advertising that people would actually like. make it an ad for something that has fuck all to do with videogames (ie snacks, a television show, etc) and of course it'll be fucking annoying
....you tried so hard, MS, and then you went and fucked it all right back up again. Sorry. No XBOne for me, no XBOne for anyone I care about, and no XBOne for anyone that'll listen to my advice.
Holy shit, even with being forced to pay $5 a month for online play. Thats a fuckton of games, and good ones at that!
Precisely why I'm not upset at all about PS+ being required. I have it already and it's great. I'm sure when PS3 streaming launches, we'll be able to access those titles through Gaikai. We just got XCOM/Uncharted 3/LBP Racing along with Battlefield 3.
Microsoft hopes that the inclusion of Kinect with every Xbox One system will allow the company to better serve contextually relevant ads, and that integrating advertising material within content will make it less jarring.
This is something interesting I doubt any of you even read. They're going to try to incorporate ads in a way where they won't be intrusive to the player, and will be relevant and not jarring. So kinda like ads on Google, I'm guessing. I'd rather have a "BUY THE THING HERE" on the side of my browser while I'm searching for things than a video ad that I have to actually manually close out of like on Youtube. This, too.
The only difference is that the advertisement we have is quite small and not disruptive, so people are not aware of clicking on the banners because they know this is a part of the whole experience on the dash,” the senior digital art director revealed. “So the users know that this is something that when they click on it, they won’t be hit by something crazy or something dangerous like on the web. Everything that lands there, we create."
So we're not going to be seeing Facebook-tier ads that say "YOU CAN MAKE A MILLION DOLLARS PLAYING GAMES! CLICK HERE!!!!" And this!
“This sort of works at two levels. There’s the game producers, who have a different API, so a different set of code and system that they use, and they've got a lot more control of the whole thing,” the developer commented, “whereas from the advertising point of view, we have a slightly more limited set, which is designed to protect the user. The company is very keen on protecting the user from any sort of abuse, so we can’t do certain things.”
Strange that I'm one of the only people to actually mention the context and justification behind what Microsoft's trying to pull. It's as if half of you only read the part of the article that the OP bolded!
It's still advertising and it's listening to you (unless you turn it off, every single time you use the console).
Advertising is fucking everywhere. It's not going to go away anytime soon. I'd rather have ads that are relevant to what I'm doing and aren't incredibly irritating than shitty ads that pop up everywhere and fuck with my experience, which is what Microsoft seems to be trying to do. Also, "listening to you?" Was this in the article or what?
