I find the average FPer's reaction hilarious in regards to his choice of housing. Are you seriously telling me that you would not live in that house if someone approached you right now and it was within your means? It can always be renovated if for whatever reason, the million dollar marble granite makes you absolutely nauseous in knowing it's true value, to something more affordable akin to the Home Depot lineup of 2014.
Seriously, that's a beautiful home. It may not be my first pick with all that money, but I'd definitely have purchased it and gotten cozy real quick considering it didn't even scratch the bank account.
If I had the means to have a house like that, I'd probably pick a different house anyway, or rather a nice apartment since I'm not a huge fan of houses.
It's so big and extravagant, what would I do in it? Sure the M&M machine is nice, but I'd get tired of it. Any why would I want a car garage that displays cars inside a living room? Why would I have so many living rooms and dining tables?
I would want a home, not a big toy. These are my personal thoughts on these things though. When it comes to notch, everything thing in that house is just another thing that screams

and that's totally fine, because sometimes you just want to tell the world to look at your big golden dick, and he's earned that right.
Pretty small-minded to think of mansions, fancy cars and luxury items after becoming rich.
If you spent the next 70 years by paying 5000$/month each on housing(rent, hotel etc); you'd end up with a total of 4mil$ expense.
And, if, during the same period of time
Heck, let's say that you'd be air traveling 20 times a month during those 70years, at an average ticket price of 200$, you'd end up with a total of 3mil$ air travel expenses during your lifetime.
And that would still be 10 times cheaper than buying a 70mil mansion.
I would have choosen a more mobile and flexible lifestyle, with most of my investments going towards either buying stock in life science enterprises and new tech like UAV transport, and networking with the coole and smart contemporary personalities out there, instead of the beverly crowds.
When someone says something like this I just assume they're jealous.

"small minded" lol how much more pretentious can you get?
I would have just bought a cottage or something, nothing too fancy, personally I think buying a mansion despite having the money is just plain ridiculous.
You don't need something that huge.
The problem is people know who Notch is, and they know he's got craploads of money. He can't live just anywhere, for security reasons if not for peace of mind. Imagine the large amounts of people who'd camp on your front lawn just to beg for money when you come out of your home.
You'd have to live somewhere where the common folk are not allowed. You'd have to live somewhere surrounded by people as wealthy as you, so between all of you there is so much security in the area that no shenanigans can occur.

This is a huge downside I can see with being rich and famous, you can't really have a small house in the forest all to yourself, it's too dangerous at this point.
