I would get depressed in a house like that honestly. It would be to big and far to quiet. I would have to have people living in it with me. If i had the money I would get something like this..small but still looks sweet. I remember seeing a bunch of amazing houses out in the wilderness that he did, forgot if this was one of them. I'd fucking love a house like that.

Not for me, thanks. I'm a nester. I pick one space and settle into it. My bedroom is for sleeping, my bathroom is for bathrooming, my kitchen is for cooking, and my Me Room is for basically everything else. Any other rooms are just wasted space. A lot of closed doors. If I could build any house I wanted to, I'd build something cozy, and somewhere private. A nice wooded area. My house would be just big enough for everybody in my nuclear fam to have one room to themselves, plus a living/dining room and your basic shit like bathrooms and a kitchen and whatnot. In separate structures, I'd have a private office for when I need a quiet retreat, and (in a perfect world) a small grotto-styled pool house. If I ended up marrying my live-in girlfriend, she'd probably want a barn and a garden a couple hundred yards down the path, too. For goats n' shit. Because goats are pretty cool.

He did pay regular visits to the site to see how it went on though.
Reminds me of Franklin's house in GTA5
Probably no one until indie devs learn to stop thinking that "blocky games will earn me tons and make me famous, just like my hero Notch".
You're talking as if the majority of indie games draw inspiration from Minecraft. That's not the case.
Good for him, made something awesome that he loved and it paid for a crazy neat house. Happy for the dude.
It's crazy to think that this indie game has become so insanely popular that it's made Notch as rich as Jay-Z and Beyonce, maybe even richer. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was posting on Facepunch about the new chickens that were added in the secret Friday update while waiting for survival multiplayer to be added.
With that kind of money, he could've bought a renovated castle instead. Like move to bumfuck egypt and become Count Markus the first
After the first million, homes are really diminishing returns unless you get into the hundreds of millions and you build some sort of palace. You can get one of these for like $500,000 This one is $400,000
Location, location, location. The average house in Vancouver costs 1.1million dollars. Nothing fancy, just a normal 2-3 bedroom house.
If I had that much money I'd get a bunch of friends together, some baller architects (one of my friends has an architecture degree, so he'd have to be there), and we'd spend a week intermittently sober, and tripping utter balls on acid, slowly designing the ultimate home. There's no soul to buying something like this; it's somebody else's vision, and if you have the money to, you might as well build your own. And like everyone else is saying; too sterile. Needs colours. Needs to look more like a Moroccan hookah den and less like a hospital.
i am ragingly jealous about this i don't even give a fuck this guy is a multi-billionaire off of minecraft god dammit all fuck my life
if notch has taught me anything it's that if you want an in development game to ever be good you should avoid supporting the developer entirely until the game is done. only way anything get's done is if they're poor through the entirety of development.
What a gaudy, pretentious atmosphere for a home. I loved the look of the decked out mojang studios, it looked expensive but had some good taste. All in all, if I had this kind of money I would say "fuck it" and buy a castle or something. I always wanted to live in an old castle, perhaps somewhere in the countryside. I am a child. nah fuck that I'd just pay someone to build custom houses anywhere I wanted on the planet and travel constantly it just looks so tacky and badly designed, that living room being the worst victim. I guess luxury equals a bunch of chairs in a room that's too big with lighting more ugly than a high-school classroom. If you are ever in doubt of your design decisions, add a fucking bugatti in the living room because money maybe those stories you hear about rich people getting sad and coming to their own personal realization that money doesn't make them happy is just due to their houses sucking
Cool for him, I guess, but how is this news?
I suppose if anything it good news, it gives inspiration to everyone out there because if you put your mind and effort into what you do (in this case making a computer game ) then you can go and get the things you like. Yeah it may not be a mansion in america but it could be something you can be proud of like making someone happy or bettering life in general. Always see the positives in life.
Ugh, I remember a house that looked like this. Nothing really special on its own, pretty bland but modern exterior, kind of minimalistic... The owners had torn down the house that had previously stood there for the sake of building this damn thing. It was in the middle of a neighbourhood composed entirely of late-18th or early-19th century buildings that looked pretty much like these: [t]http://www.harrogate.co.uk/wp-content/themes/directorypress/thumbs/Pateley-Bridge-high-street-mods.jpg[/t] The stupid house was an eyesore, and its painful mediocrity was not helped by the juxtaposition of it with its environment. I don't give a shit if someone builds an awful house in a development or in the middle of nowhere or next to a bunch of other awful houses, but for the love of god, don't fuck up an aesthetically pleasing old neighbourhood with your atrocious sense of style. (This isn't a rant directed at anything other than the picture, in case you're wondering what this has to do with Notch or a California mansion)
strange that is not bunker and where the girls?
I would live in Beverly Hills just for the view, and so I can drive to vegas, I have a gambling addiction.
he's probably going to sell it off within 10 years' time and live somewhere that's less gaudy. sorta like how gaming pc builders start off with this
Slightly off-topic here, sorry, but is that a fucking gatling gun? :v:
How much is Notch even making a year, and how much will he continue to make?
Oh cmon does he even have enough sweg to invite enough people over fill all those chairs and bar and pool cmon
i could never live in a house like that because you'd need maids and other employees to keep your home clean and to refill the candy, it's too weird to have random people in your home every day for hours.
You get used to it.
Replace the marble and ceramic tile with wood and stone and we might have something. That's just my preference though.
This man... This man knows things about me. Also, he has at the very least 1000 horses in his living room, as in he has a goddamn Veyron in his living room. It's crazy how he got THIS loaded with minecraft imo. And here's where I lost my "rear ended virginity". Interview with Phil Fish
so i guess that's what Java can give if you invest 5 years and creativity
Fancy as fuck, but too wide open and gaudy for my tastes.
So Notch lives in the US now?
He made a game about putting cubes together and now he lives in that Well played
His ex-wife must feel like shit seeing him with all this money. I hope Notch will realize that there's going to be a lot of gold diggers. His wife will probably come back as one of them, too.
Kind of a dick statement to make. When you live in a socialist democracy like Sweden (or even like here in the Netherlands), 'being rich' isn't as much of a life goal to people because they know they can achieve happiness without it. It doesn't seem like there was a lot of drama between Notch and his ex-wife so I assume they parted on good terms. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. [editline]19th December 2014[/editline]
So Notch lives in the US now?
Apparently it's a holiday home of sorts.
