I just can't imagine Notch living in LA in some high-life community setting. Just imagine some tubby Swedish guy with a fedora walking into celebrity event, and people have to explain he is the guy who made, "the minecraft."
I guess you can say he's taken his life up a notch. [sp]oh man[/sp]

No one in Hollywood will care where he got his money, or how he dresses, or even if he's American or not. If he's willing to use his money as an investor, a producer, and be in on getting projects off the ground then there will be no shortage of people knocking on his door.
I agree. I'd probably buy a small but well-designed penthouse with that kind of money.
This guy knows whats up, location is key, and a nice penthouse on a huge building is like my dream.
If I had Notch's money, I would replicate Castle Wolfenstein. Swastikas and Nazi imagery galore. HOly shit. This is truly crazy. I seriously envy him at this point.
The only potential downside of living there is that all the people he meets will be fake friends. He's right in the middle of the fakest fake people who ever faked a fake relationship, be it business or personal. I suppose he'll have that problem anywhere he goes though, so might as well live it where there is an endless supply of hedonistic debauchery to soothe your loneliness.
HOly shit. This is truly crazy. I seriously envy him at this point.
Don't be, because either he's gotta clean it himself or he's gotta pay some people to do it- and THAT can't be cheap. I know he's got money, but there's a bottom to every well.

Three (decorative) fire extinguishers! And since you're filthy fucking rich you can just rebuild the place afterwards! DUH!
honestly the internet did most of the work for him people started talking about the game, the TF2 blog featured him, then youtube pretty much took care of the rest once they figured out they could keep on churning minecraft videos to make even more profit
That's how organic growth works and how most indie games get their popularity. I think he meant by "playing smart" as the microcraft part.
Just wait a few years once Notch becomes irrelevant and needs to sell his shit to stay over water. Those candy machines look awesome.
Just wait a few years once Notch becomes irrelevant and needs to sell his shit to stay over water. Those candy machines look awesome.
Notch already is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to games. He has made so much money that he doesn't need to make a single cent anymore for the rest of this life.
Even if upkeep, landscaping/maid service/etc, costs $5 million a year in ten years he'd have spent $50 million. Meanwhile, during those ten years his enormous bankroll would have generated interest and capital gains. Seriously, unless he goes nuts on a never ending spending spree, he's going to be WEALTHIER as the years go by, not poorer. This house and all the expenses related to it won't put a dent, or even a small ding, in his finances.
tbh the fact that a chubby fedora-wearing indie game dev outbid a popular rapper and popular singer is pretty crazy
With a house this big I'd be afraid to look like a dinner plate to burglars
The houses up in that area of LA are pretty fucking insane. I did a catering event to one of them and the dude had a car elevator to his garage. It wasnt even one of the bigger houses
tbh the fact that a chubby fedora-wearing indie game dev outbid a popular rapper and popular singer is pretty crazy
And honestly awesome. This guy didn't get to where he is singing and looking pretty with tons of airbrush and autotune, he made a game that millions of people loved. Honestly that being rewarded so dearly is good in my books.
I get really strange anxiety thinking about Notch's success story. Imagine actually becoming that filthy rich off of one of your first indie game projects. Getting this amount of success, this early in your career feels like a death sentence. I feel like it would kill your motivation to move forward and continue development of your skills and ideas. I wonder if Notch feels this way.
Is there a millionaire that still lives in a little two story home I'd be uncomfortable with more room than i can use

He just got there a lot faster than most. He can stay busy if he wants to, all this success means is he doesn't HAVE to work on software development anymore to pay the bills. But yeah, if his dream was to someday develop a piece of software than would leave his mark on the world- he's done it, that dream is over. Time to pursue new dreams.

And it'd be incredible for parties with the rest of the rooms (oh man, imagine a bunch of computer nerds at a 70 million dollar estate having a party.) If I had the money, hell yeah I'd do it.
Perfect house to skulk through listlessly, having reached the top and found out it's not all it's cracked up to be. That's what i would do with it anyway :v:

Yeah, he got where he was looking pretty, not because, hell I don't know, he made some pretty damn good hip hop music since the 90's? Oh and he sold about 55 million albums world wide, not as much as Minecraft but regardless that's a pretty dumb and uninformed post you made. Of all pop music, Beyoncé also has a pretty high artistic merit, at least compared to other similar artists. I doubt she uses autotune in studio recordings. Or are you one of those "hip hop sucks because it's not Pink Floyd" snobs?
