And honestly awesome. This guy didn't get to where he is singing and looking pretty with tons of airbrush and autotune, he made a game that millions of people loved. Honestly that being rewarded so dearly is good in my books.
yeah surely a greater achievement than jay-z pulling himself up from the projects by selling 100 million records and winning 19 grammys
tbh the fact that a chubby fedora-wearing indie game dev outbid a popular rapper and popular singer is pretty crazy
new century is here
Is it really that amazing that he outbid some artists because he thought the house was worth more than to them? It's not like the artists were outbid because they couldn't afford it, it's because they didn't think it was worth that much.
look at all that cereal

The amazing part is that he could do that, who he outbid is not the amazing bit, since music and/or movie people are usually the ones who buy houses out there.

I want to believe he sniped Jay Z's bid at the last moment.
where's the crazy thing in a game dev outbidding Jay Z-Beyonce? Like really, I don't see anything crazy. He made a polished product, PR it like no one did it before -Does anyone else remembers the Alpha page in ModDB?-, took advantage of a developing model not widely used and captured a market that was unexploited. I mean, it's not like Notch made his money by cutting grass with some scissors.
He got a couple of billion dollars for Minecraft. Let's say after sharing some of it with partners and paying taxes he only has a third of that now, he still has enough to live like a king just off the interest his investments generate. People like that don't 'make' money such as salary or wages. That kind of wealth just reaches critical mass and perpetuates itself. This assumes he doesn't do anything totally insane with his wealth. One 70 million dollar house, meh, no big deal. Two or three, maybe something in NYC and London? Still no big deal. If he starts piling up expensive real estate on every continent around the world, then we'll know he went off the deep end.
Man, If I had that money, I would arrange a meeting with Elon Musk and say to him "Yo, here's some billion dollars. Just make Tesla develop Solar, Eolic and every kind of renewable source of power. As a bonus, try to dick around with Gen4 Nuclear reactors" But if I had to buy a living place....no doubt, give a penthouse in Germany/Switzerland/Sweden.
Like really, I don't see anything crazy. He made a polished product
uhh... I have news for you.
Notch just made a game that had a large, previously unknown appeal to mainstream audiences.
Dude he outbid Jay-Z & Beyoncé. Yeah, he got where he was looking pretty, not because, hell I don't know, he made some pretty damn good hip hop music since the 90's? Oh and he sold about 55 million albums world wide, not as much as Minecraft but regardless that's a pretty dumb and uninformed post you made. Of all pop music, Beyoncé also has a pretty high artistic merit, at least compared to other similar artists. I doubt she uses autotune in studio recordings. Or are you one of those "hip hop sucks because it's not Pink Floyd" snobs?
Fair enough, I really just don't enjoy pop music and that just makes me biased. Idk, I see Beyoncé and JayZ as pop not hip hop, also I seem to have confused Jayz with a far younger more autotuned artist. Reallly fair play. Just different tastes I suppose. Also who even are Pink Floyd? What I suppose I meant is that it's nice to see something as nerdy and uncool as minecraft in pop culture rather than pretty people singing, but I guess it was rather uninformed.
I see JayZ as pop not hip hop

but I guess it was rather uninformed.
Only a little bit uninformed.
Perfect house to skulk through listlessly, having reached the top and found out it's not all it's cracked up to be. That's what i would do with it anyway :v:
I would hire 50 hookers and buy tons of alcohol and crack and just fuck and get high for weeks at a time. But that's just me, so I don't know.
Only a little bit uninformed.
I admit to being wrong so you respond with 'NO YOU WERE VERY WRONG!' Real mature.
I admit to being wrong so you respond with 'NO YOU WERE VERY WRONG!' Real mature.
He's one of the best-selling hiphop artists of all time and even just googling his name shows, in the first sentence of his wikipedia page, he's a rapper. But hey, it's still more mature than dismissing the accomplishments of two of the biggest and most successful artists of our time as 'singing and looking pretty with tons of airbrush and autotune'.

What rock have you been living under that you've never heard the name Pink Floyd?
what's with you and the "only pretty people sing" thing? you're a really naive and ignorant person
Yeah Miley contradicts his entire thing.
i say we hang Rossy167 for making an uninformed statement on an online message board this is _outrageous_
Yeah Miley contradicts his entire thing.
Hey, Miley sings. Not very well but she sings.
Hey, Miley sings. Not very well but she sings.
The point is she sings but she aint pretty.
The point is she sings but she aint pretty.
Ehh, I think most people would agree that Miley Cyrus is good looking. Either way, Beyoncé is a great singer, and saying she got to where she is just by being pretty is totally disingenuous: I'm not a fan of her music, but she's definitely talented as shit.
Ehh, I think most people would agree that Miley Cyrus is good looking.
Is she? She was sure but after her "transformation" I'm not sure. Of course many will still think she's good looking and that's why top charts are filled with questionable quality songs, because most people think they're good, they must be good then right?
I didn't say you aren't allowed to say she's not pretty, I just think most people will disagree.
Absolutely, that's how opinions work. Nothing wrong with that.
Pretty small-minded to think of mansions, fancy cars and luxury items after becoming rich. If you spent the next 70 years by paying 5000$/month each on housing(rent, hotel etc); you'd end up with a total of 4mil$ expense. And, if, during the same period of time Heck, let's say that you'd be air traveling 20 times a month during those 70years, at an average ticket price of 200$, you'd end up with a total of 3mil$ air travel expenses during your lifetime. And that would still be 10 times cheaper than buying a 70mil mansion. I would have choosen a more mobile and flexible lifestyle, with most of my investments going towards either buying stock in life science enterprises and new tech like UAV transport, and networking with the coole and smart contemporary personalities out there, instead of the beverly crowds.
I would have just bought a cottage or something, nothing too fancy, personally I think buying a mansion despite having the money is just plain ridiculous. You don't need something that huge.

He can do all you suggested and also afford a mansion, fancy cars and luxurious items. After all that he will still have around a billion or more left.
