[vid]http://img.nikomo.fi/1396898985122.webm[/vid] I really hope WebM gets more popular now, this is awesome. Also, no fucking Flash when playing WebM, that's the major benefit, I still haven't bothered to find a way to make YouTube videos that are embedded on websites use the VLC browser plugin instead of Flash, but I have it setup for YouTube itself, and it's great on this low-end Linux-running laptop.
http://www.youtube.com/html5
youtubes html5 player is pretty buggy
Please thing, do catch on
is webm more processor and memory intensive than gif?
No. Gifs actually take up way too much memory than webm. It's really scary actually how much memory a big gif image can take.
As far as I understand, yes and no. GIF is basically raw raster frames with practically no processing. Webm can use quite complex methods of encoding (which is why it practically without quality loss achieves like literally ten times smaller file size). On the other side, all modern CPUs and APUs have built in functionality specifically for decoding h.264 and other modern media formats, so while the task is more complex than just vomiting GIF frames, it's far more "natural" for them and they can do it far more efficiently.
Are you saying modern CPUs have architecture-level h.264 decoding? Do you have a source or example for that?
I recommend to giving gfycay a try. My own thingy: I won't even embed the gif because it's sodding 55MB MP4 [vid]http://giant.gfycat.com/ElegantNeatKissingbug.mp4[/vid] WEBM [vid]http://giant.gfycat.com/ElegantNeatKissingbug.webm[/vid] (At least one of these two should play for you, both play for me)
What game is that?
youtubes html5 player is pretty buggy
and half the time it just gives you the flash player anyway so it can show ads
What game is that?
Warthunder.
I had never heard of this till now
What game is that?
War Thunder ground forces closed beta test. [editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
Are you saying modern CPUs have architecture-level h.264 decoding? I do know that for instance smartphones have it tho, as it's quite necessary to crunch the fullHD video as they record it.
This is great but what's the point of the 2 minute limit? Keep the filesize limit but remove the time limit.
you can embed youtube videos so who cares most gifs don't exceed 20 seconds [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] and i just realised you can save them, fucking awesome. now i just need an image viewer with webm support and i'm set [editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
This is cool but can this be removed?
i'm confused why exactly is this bad
Am I watching the future unfurl before my very eyes? This is unreal how much of an upgrade this is to gifs.
Webm doesn't work on my phone
i'm confused why exactly is this bad
if it's being treated as a gif, especially a small looping one, it's unnecessary to have a media control bar. but as mentioned to kannata before just don't hover your mouse on it or remove the function altogether if that's your preference
The Wiki says h264 has higher quality with smaller files so I guess this is all about free patents and open source. Good move.
First time converting to webm, since my pc isn't all that I'm gonna say this isn't 60fps. [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16364552/webm/METAL%20GEAR%20RISING%20REVENGEANCE%202014-01-20%2001-04-24-548_6.webm[/vid]
wait im stupid
Isn't MKV the most efficient?
I have no clue but it's not about efficiency when you compare .gif to webm, efficiency plays a role when you ask why webmover h264 or others and there it's probably the open sourcieness as I was told by Wiki.

WebM is a good stand-in until WebP supports animation.
Webm doesn't work on my phone
What phone is it? A Nokia 3310?
[vid]http://i.4cdn.org/k/src/1396846224377.webm[/vid]
Unfortunately it doesn't loop, I'm guessing it's because Facepunch doesn't auto-play them. garry please
First conversion with ffmpeg, worked out great. [vid]http://img.nikomo.fi/deal_with_it_audio.webm[/vid]
Right click it to enable looping [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] How can I see the filesize?
Unfortunately it doesn't loop, I'm guessing it's because Facepunch doesn't auto-play them. garry please
Right click and hit loop? [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] Fuck late
Right click it to enable looping [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] How can I see the filesize?
Nothing about looping it, maybe because I'm using Firefox?
