Top Gear loses a third of its audience by second episode

Get rid of the BBC 'Yes' man and narrow it down to 3-4 TOTAL people who have some semblance of chemistry between them, then maybe you can have a show worth watching again. The first episode was extremely painful, and I can't believe Evans is even a part of this show, he's so out of place it's not even funny. At least May was able to connect to Hammond and Clarkson and added a different sense of comedy to the whole show through slow methodical presentation.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I only just realized that this wasn't Captain America Chris Evans. I was wondering for the longest time why they got that guy for the British car show.
Yeah Chris Evans is a twat, his twitter rant about viewers is now especially funny
Worst rated top gear episode since Season 2 (2003), and less than half the viewers of the lowest rated episode last year...
Blaming the drop on viewers moving online doesn't work either, not like there has been some huge shift in viewing habits over less than 12 months.
Oh dear the BBC are pulling the "iplayer" excuse again, even though back in 2014 top gear had no problems getting large amounts of views even with the existence of iplayer.
They pull this shitty excuse every time their shows lose views, they did the same for doctor who when it started going down the pan.
I think the worst part of that example is that it showed how shitty Arin was, as Danny is like, infinitely more interesting and funny.
Arin is a weirdly pretentious cockbag
Danny is why I still watch the show. If Arin brought in, say, Ross I probably wouldn't still be subscribed.
The hosts makes the show.
chris evans sounds like the most insecure teenager in the world right now
he's gettin paid by the BBC to shill for the new show so is anybody particularly surprised that this is how his Twitter looks?
hell i'd do the same for the price of his contract

leblanc's twitter is totally chill though
If there was other programming on the air at the same time, and they just had a bad time slot, why do I have to go back literally a fucking decade, in ratings, to series 8, to find episodes that had a similar viewer count as episode 1 of the new series?
leblanc's twitter is totally chill though
meh, just sounds like typical marketing to me. leblanc doesn't have to shill for the show because he's already a major reason people are attracted to the concept of the new top gear. BBC execs would be loathe to insist on anything that might further tarnish that reputation
evans on the other hand is class cunt in my opinion so it makes sense that he'd uphold that image for the sake of insisting that the new show's ratings aren't quite as bad as they are
fire the captain america imposter and hire Rowan Atkinson.
I am not surprised that ratings have gone down. It's not the same because they changed the host after many years of it having the same host. I don't really watch it anymore, I prefer older episodes.

That is actually an astonishingly good idea.

I can already picture the special episode in honor of the Mini, in where he says he hates the Mini to death, and wouldn't drive one even if it had a sofa to sit on and if he was able to operate it at a broom's length distance :v:
Is the show actually bad, though? Like, setting aside its history with Jeremy and the gang, if the new Top Gear were a completely different car show airing its very first season, would you have found it entertaining? I can't help but wonder how much of the new TG hate is just bitter fans versus legitimate criticism. I haven't been able to see it, so I really can't judge for myself.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Clarkson, Hammond, and May, and am deffo looking forward to The Grand Tour, but I think it's a bit petty to expect Top Gear to completely fail with their departure. The formula and relationships may change, and it may not capture the same magic it did with the old gang, but it could still stand to be a very entertaining show in its own right.
Part of the problem is they won't let old Top Gear die - they haven't reformatted the show at all and Evans kept bringing up tropes and references to the old series. Same studio, same furniture, same format; at least a dozen references to the old show including a direct reference to the reason Clarkson was fired.
I mean yes it's unfunny and terrible and Evans needs to fuck off, but it suffers even more by constantly invoking comparison with its older self. If they'd bothered to even slightly tweak the formula it might have worked but it's like walking into your parents' house to discover your family has been replaced with a bunch of similarly-dressed strangers you don't like.
Evans lost most of his appeal after Don't Forget Your Toothbrush.
He was quirky enough back then to pull it off but now he just comes across as a twat.
Well, At least with Doctor who they can just "replace" the doctor and no one will have a problem.

How does that even relate to TG at all?

Doctor who also has failing viewership and is owned by the BBC. It is relevent to an extent because it shows how the BBC miss manages it's flagship programmes.

That they are ruining Dr Who has been known for the last 2-4 years but the guy said that no one seems to have a problem if they change the Doctor but thats kind of the entire point of Dr Who which started doing this the 1960's.

Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie hosting Top Gear needs to happen.
I've never liked Evans, although that might be s negative association with his breakfast radio program waking me up

If they get those 3 together again it'd better be for Blackadder.
they really should have got Chris Barrie
